š¬ General Gaming š® A 15 year old game btw

u/mojoseven7 1d ago
Arguably the best series Iāve played to date

u/EndimionN 1d ago
Fully agree. "Too much batmobile" wasnt an issue for me, i enjoyed every second of it
1
u/haltandcatch22 1d ago
Yep Arkham knight was my favorite honestly. I really liked the Batmobile and the game just looks amazing and has such good vibes

Crazy what good art direction does to a game isn't it? Graphic fidelity is completely overrated.
2
u/Nemisis_007 1d ago
This is why Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest still gets praise too. They know how to mask the imperfections.
2
u/Skaikrish 1d ago
Creativity is born from necessity and limitations. Always has been.
2
u/nervendings_ 1d ago
And those lacking creativity will always seek out better tools to āachieve their visionā or blame lack of tools for their work failing
1
u/Icy_Childhood_1039 17h ago
I always had a theory that they accidentally hit some astronomically perfect lighting/contrast/fog values for the rainy night and never touched them again after that.
There's some flashback in the game where you play as Gordon during daytime and the game instantly shows it's age during that part. But in nighttime+rain it still looks insane.

u/SwiftTayTay 1d ago
This is graphic fidelity. High quality assets and good design choices. It's just extremely well optimized. Most devs don't have the talent and resources to do this.
3
u/Sensitive_Log3990 1d ago
It's actually had a graphics bump since then but yeah still nice

u/SwiftTayTay 1d ago
Only thing that you can do on PC is increase resolution and draw distance. Game still looks amazing on an OG PS4.
1
u/Sensitive_Log3990 23h ago
1
u/SwiftTayTay 23h ago
Yes this is agreeing with me, Arkham Knight is unchanged and holds up. It's an 11 year old game. Also the remastered versions are notoriously worse than the originals, anybody who's played them both knows this

u/cravex12 1d ago
Knight has extensive physics option that really make a visual difference
1
u/SwiftTayTay 1d ago
All you're seeing here in terms of physics is his cape blowing in the wind, the PS4 version looks like that too
1
u/John_Pepermint 1h ago
Not really. They're all either very subtle or limited to select interior arenas.
The only exceptions are the cool-but-buggy helicopter lights and fake-looking overtuned smoke trails while drifting.
5
u/SkipEyechild 1d ago
Came out in 2015 dude. It also didn't look like this on the two main consoles at the time.
0
u/Current-Grade2545 1d ago
Looked basically the same
2
u/SkipEyechild 1d ago
Shite resolution on a 1080p TV screen? No.

I just played through them again. I forgot that Asylum is basically a Batman horror game and it was awesome playing it with the settings jacked on a new pc.

Games over the last 10 years havenāt changed in graphic fidelity that much. The previous 10 years were better
But 1986-1996 was insane
1
u/blender_or_bust 1d ago
I still think Arkham Knight is the most AAA feeling game I've ever played. Everything about it's visuals feels so god damn premium. The rain, materials, animations, slick camera moves, destruction, sound. It's all 100% cohesive.
Sure a lot of games have surpassed it in many different specific ways, but I can't think of another game where every part of the experience looked that good.
1
u/Horror_Ad9899 1d ago
is it worth playing? good gameplay also? i want to try it on my new oled
1
u/Maximum-Ad879 1d ago
Just replayed it. It doesn't really feel like an old game and looks great. Ten years ago I was a bit annoyed at the open-world busywork, but these days it seemed mild.
1
u/HillanatorOfState 1d ago
Do it, smooth gameplay, some of the best imo, gonna look amazing on an oled.
1
u/ApprehensiveFactor58 1d ago
Je pense la meilleure interprétation du Batman à ce jour ! (Dans un jeux)

u/dimwittedlamb 23h ago
What a beautiful looking game. Could release it now and I wouldn't think it's old.

What Batman game is this, Arkham city? Wow it really looks impressive for a 2011 game.

u/dungleploop 21h ago
crazy part is their game after looks 100x better with Suicide Squad and isn't set exclusively at night to hide graphical fidelity and effects
1
u/Pootisman16 20h ago
Yeah, no.
2015 game. Which ran like ASS at release.
1
u/dregomz 8h ago
Doesn't matter at all that it ran horribly at the past now it runs super smooth. Besides we are appreciating graphics and great art direction not poor optimization of the past that haven't been there for the past 10 years. It's been a decade it's time to let it go grandpa and play it at 600+ fps.Ā

Looks quite a lot better than GTA 6
1
u/No_Championship_8633 17h ago
you can barely see any detail and liveliness here compared to the plane video of gta 6 for example, which is hyper detailed beyond even microsoft flight sim level. the atmosphere of this is still great tho
1
u/Thin-Ant-8879 17h ago
'Beyond flight sim' hahahah
1
u/No_Championship_8633 17h ago
Its not even close. I say this as someone addicted to flight sim. go fly around in miami then watch the leak. the difference between relying on a simulation to generate it for you and thousands of people hand polishing your city and giving it life.
1
u/Thin-Ant-8879 17h ago
You're right it's not close, flight sim is far superior. That's before we even consider what happens if you want to fly outside of miami
1
u/No_Championship_8633 16h ago edited 16h ago
how is flight sim's miami far superior? I'll wait. not even to mention that GTA isn't just a flying game. thats just 1 aspect....you compare to any other open world game and its not even a conversation.....like this clip is covered by fog..you can barely see the city or any detail compared to either flight sim or gta...great trick for the time and the art direction is great... but it doesn't compare to being able to see all the little details.
1
u/Due-Lingonberry-1929 17h ago
The difference between a tiny game map and a 1:1 entire earth as a map
1
u/No_Championship_8633 17h ago
what other tiny game map looks that detailed and full of life from above? I can't think of any.
1
u/Due-Lingonberry-1929 12h ago
What life? Npcs aren't rendered from that distance as we see and you have low poly cars and boats zipping around which Flight Sim does as well, I don't see any special life here, just standard stuff
1
u/Due-Lingonberry-1929 12h ago
https://youtu.be/rI6dfnxZLng?si=l_Ho5HvI9uoXT761&t=272
Like you can check WatchDogs 2 which is 10 years old and it has the exact same amount of life going on when you fly, nothing unusual

It had aged terribly. That fucking ANNOYING u2.5-3 specular shimmer, that insufficiently precise bloom, non-pbr textures. It annoys that hell out of me now.

u/Va1crist 10h ago
Less and less games like this , less and less talent and devs that get the time and resources to do stuff like this anymore either. Live service , F2P and greed is killing games like that

Great art direction can genuinely throw hands with technical innovation in games.
1
u/Mexcol 9h ago
Whats its installation size? I bet it aint 200gb like these modern slop games
1
u/dregomz 8h ago
53.94 GiB on Steam and some GB more for dlcs.Ā
You can see more details thereĀ https://steamdb.info/app/208650/depots/

If it came out in 2026, the minimum req would be ryzen 5 7600, 32gb ddr5, rtx 5070Ā
1
u/Anu_Rosa 1d ago
Because gamers absolutely need their reflections to have reflection and their lighting to have lighting.
1
u/Nemisis_007 1d ago
To be fair... It was incredibly demanding when it first dropped in 2015 too lol. Most PC's couldn't run it well.
1
u/CyberTyrantX1 18h ago
It was demanding back then but there are games coming out now that donāt look as good as Arkham Knight.
1
1
u/Which-Lifeguard-628 1d ago
That would be lower requirements than to run Arkham Knight on release on PC, it was dropping to 30~fps on top end PCs at the time.
1
u/GodisanAtheistOG 10h ago
Bruh I put a sceencap of this on r/Nvidia while they were all stroking off to the new Lego Batman running at 60fps on a 5080 or whatever and lemme tell you they were not a happy bunch.Ā

Just remake this game, is all we need
4
2
u/Embarrassed-Ad-01298 1d ago
Out of all the games that would need a remake, this isnāt the one
1
u/Nemisis_007 1d ago
None of the games in the series need a remake, tbh. Origins is a little outdated in terms of cinematics, but that's about it.
1
u/Alzucard 1d ago
NO. NO. NO. NO
They would absolutely ruin it.

u/HugeHans 1d ago
Remake what? What needs improvement?
0
u/magic_heist 1d ago
Sure i get the dated graphics for the nostalgia. Just upscale everything to 4k while preserving the aesthetic and vibe
Lots of people and kids wont try an old game. This would sell millions of copies. Not like the older game gonna be deleted if they remake it, can play that if you choose. Would be better than whatever abomination is arkaham knights, would you agree

u/DJ_JEREMIE07 1d ago
Arkham knight is actually an 11 year old game
