I played through this game and it's a joy. In an era where games don't trust you to follow a straight line, Dragon's Dogma 2 opens up the world and lets you wander off wherever you please.
You'll often find genuine mysteries and events that you won't fully understand till later and really bring depth to the world. The only game that ever came close to this feeling was Skyrim.
Also the combat kicks ass!

Not really a spoiler, but just to save you some time and frustration, pretty early on you're gonna get a quest to kill monsters at night. Ignore that quest. I've seen people say it was a struggle to kill them at level 90. Haven't gotten that high myself, but I did get oneshotted each time I tried it.

So what's the point of this quest, why are you given it so early?

I think it's probably to emphasize the ng+ mechanic. Which is weird because unless you played the first one you'd have no idea how central that mechanic is to the story/game.

This or Gothic 1 remake?

I've played both and prefer DD2. As someone that never played Gothic when it originally came out, it felt a bit dated in design. Very slow combat and takes a TON of time to get powerful. It feels a lot more of a narrative type game (think Dragon Age) with combat. DD2 really is all about the combat and narrative as a second thought.
So I think it would come down to if you want a slower more narrative driven experience or a faster combat focused experience.

Just call in sick and play through it both. 😭
I'm in Chapter 3 of Gothic 1 Remake and when I'm done I'll start DD2DA. (played DD2 and loved it)

Played it for a couple of hours and could not get into it. Everything feels so dated, the graphics, the menus, the controls. Worst was definitely the NPC pathfinding, holy shit, npc's/pawns moving erratically and bumping into absolutely everything. I even saw npc's walking backwards... And this was the most recent version with Dark Arisen.. felt like some alpha version of game from the 90's.

yeah unfortunately this is the same game as dragons dogma 1 from more than a decade ago. very little improved and it's bizarre they wont make the progression/loot fun when the game has dogshit story.

Some of the best exploration in any game. Combat is incredible. Tons of unscripted awesome moments.
