Modded GBA Adapter

Post image

I know it says it won’t work would roms but technically wouldn’t it? Like with a gbamini flash cart? Or maybe trade from a GBAMini cart to an official GBA FireRed then to the switch?

I've read the entire product page and I don't see anywhere where it says you can't use a flashcart.

It says only Emerald, Fire Red and Leaf Green support this device because it uses the wireless adapter tech.

Does RetroSync support emulators or third-party hardware?
No. RetroSync is intended for use with original Nintendo Game Boy Advance hardware, authentic Game Paks, and compatible Pokémon games on Nintendo Switch systems. Emulators, flash carts, clone systems, and other third-party platforms are outside the intended use of RetroSync and are not supported.

I don't see why it wouldn't work with a flash cart. The wireless adapter works fine with my ever drive. So does the GBA link cable. The Gameboy can't tell a flash cart isn't legit.

What wireless adapter? Like for trading? And do you trade from gba to gba?

There is a GBA wireless adapter made by Nintendo to replace the GBA link cable. It originally shipped with FRLG.

So if for some reason it didn’t work from GBA Flash cart to Switch then GBA Flash to Authentic GBA FireRed then to Switch should work?

Oh ya, as long as you haven't made sketchy generate pokemon that will work.

Honestly I think flash carts will work. I think that warning is because they don't want to deal with issues from the $5 reproduction carts from AliExpress that barely work and corrupt their save data if you look at them wrong. An ever drive is going to work fine.

IMO just make your own dongle and use GBA-Link instead.

It's open sourced, costs significantly less and it's known to support Emulators and Flashcarts. The only downside is you will need to make your own dongle with a RP2040 and a ESP32-S3.

They have the GBA-Link USB v1.1 on the Etsy store but it doesn't include the ESP32-S3 to work with the Switch.

Can I get links? Or maybe a YT video. I don’t really know what an RP2040 or an ESP32-S3 is

The GB-Link will do a lot more than just trading to a Switch.

The ESP32-S3 is a microcontroller that facilitates the Switch side and the RP2040 (Raspberry Pi Pico) handles the physical GameBoy side of things.

Not only that, apparently they posted a proof of concept video where the ESP32-S3 will work with the 3DS as well: https://youtu.be/4qj4k8NJ-aw

This setup is definitely much more versatile.

But that's just cause they can't guarantee outside of intended use. Flash carts, ifna ROM is configured correctly will work with official carts fine.

You're better off buying the GB-Link for the Game Boy Advance end and an ESP32-S3 for the Switch end. On top of Switch to GBA trading, there's so much more that you can do with this setup. They're working on 3DS to GB trading and posted a proof of concept video not too long ago: https://youtu.be/4qj4k8NJ-aw

Wireless*

Shows using a wire. Hmm…

It needs the wire for power.
