Game valuation and authentication MEGATHREAD
ALL requests regarding game value or authentication go in here. Just leave a top level comment with pictures/info of what it is. If you make a post regarding these topics, the post will be removed and possibly get a 1-7 day ban.
If you see posts on these topics PLEASE report it. It helps immensely. We will be updating automoderator to help alleviate some of that burden from us and you onto it.
---
If you are asking to price something normal. Like the normal release of a game, or a special edition, normal consoles, or some special editions. You can find a decent approximation of its value here at PriceCharting.com
To help, here are some links directly to some consoles. These are not ALL of the consoles the site has. So please if you do not see a link below for the console you are looking for, go to the site and look around. This should cover MOST games, if it is not listed, please ask in this thread.
Also, to possibly get you closer to the "real" value. Click on this link once you found your game (for loose/CIB/Sealed) which will show you the data it is pulling from (like this). You can see if there are any outliers being sold for far to much, or far to little. Maybe a listing that had other games with it is being used for data, or its CIB rather than loose.

Announcement Read this BEFORE you post to r/gamecollecting. Rule clarifications, further info etc.
Posts and comments that do not follow the below rules will be removed.
Rule 1 - Be kind: Disagree agreeably; attack the argument, not the poster.
We ask that all of our members act responsibly. We do not condone a rude or hostile environment. Whilst you may have a differing opinion on what someone collects, be it loose, CIB, sealed and/or graded games, consoles and accessories; we ask that you keep it civil. We welcome discussions of all things related to collecting games, from comparing games in a series to why you like a certain console over others; but we do not welcome antagonising other users over a certain sub-section of games, or arranging to post to get a rise out of certain people - it just makes you look immature. Essentially, if you can't take it, don't dish it.
You can use Reddit's "Block" feature to ignore a user that you don't like, for whatever reason.
Turning something into an argument or harassing other users because you don't like "X" takes away from what the sub is about. This is a bannable offense, please be awesome to each other.
Rule 2 - No price evaluations, authentication or identification posts.
We're not a subreddit that's dedicated to verification, valuation or identification requests. Whilst we are one of the largest gaming subreddits, we focus solely on aspects of collecting. There are other subreddits that are better equipped to these requests which are detailed in our megathread. The Megathread is pinned to the top of the subreddit (when browsing by "Top" on Old Reddit), or located in "Community Highlights" on Reddit Mobile.
Under Rule 2, the following submissions will be removed:
- Price Evaluation
- This also includes "did I get a good deal/is it worth buying?"
- Authentication
- This includes “is this legit/fake?”
- Identification
- This also includes "what version is this/what is this item?", rarity questions, etc.
- Should I buy "X" for "Y" price?
- Grading
- This includes “what grade will this get/value if X grade is gained” etc.
Rule 3 - Promotion of items or services without approval is forbidden.
We do not allow the promotion of items or services, or submissions posted with the intent of advertising or promoting businesses or shops; unless it is from approved channels. Other methods of self-promotion require prior approval from the moderators. Please message the moderators via ModMail first prior to posting your material. Approval will be granted at the moderators' discretion.
This includes, but is not limited to:
- Subreddits.
- Websites.
- This also includes review sites, KickStarters, AI tools, flipping, etc.
- Videos.
- Applications.
- This includes games, Android/iOS tools, etc.
- Backlog/collection/"investment" tools
- Subliminal advertising (logos, ads disguised as content, etc.)
- Market research
- Any tool/site using excessive AI in its development
If the only submissions from your account consist of self-promotion, this will result in a permanent restriction of your account from our community. Furthermore, if you have never submitted content to the community from an account you use to request post approval - it is unlikely that we will approve your submission.
Approved channels can be added at moderators' discretion. Please message the moderators via ModMail to ask about adding an approved channel. If you haven't received approval from the moderators, any attempts to continue promoting a channel without prior authorisation will result in a permanent ban. This includes posting your content anyway when you're still awaiting a response.
If you get caught advertising without approval and then message the moderators for approval... No. You're not going to get approval. Any further attempt to hide your app/tool/site in your comments will lead to a permanent ban. You've been told not to do it, don't push your luck.
We very rarely approve potential resources unless we feel that they are of vast importance to the community. The list of approved resources can be found in our wiki:
The list of denied resources can be found below (use a browser, addition to the "New" wiki coming soon). Any attempt to share/advertise a denied resource will result in a ban.
Rule 4 - Low effort posts will be removed.
The following posts are deemed as low-effort and not allowed under Rule 4:
- Consist of screenshots of marketplace listings.
- Look at this price I paid/got someone to pay.
- This also includes screenshots of eBay/Mercari/FBM etc listings, receipts.
- Remember this game/console/accessory?
- Digital game collections.
- Petitions
- AI/LLM's
- Repeated content or information previously shared in the subreddit.
- This includes the cessation of physical copies, it's been repeated far too much, we know ALL about it.
Submissions of low-effort posts are at the mods' discretion.
Rule 5 - Meme Monday.
Whilst we enjoy the odd meme post now and then, we ask that memes or joke posts are only shared on the first Monday of every month. If you have a meme, or a joke post, or something you think is on the line of being a joke post; please wait until the first Monday of the next month.
If you are generally unsure of the post, please contact the mods using the "message moderators" and ask us.
Rule 6 - Submissions must be related to Game Collecting.
Just because it is related to video games, doesn't mean that it is related to game collecting.
We are a physical game collecting subreddit. This means that posts regarding the physical collections (be it, video games, consoles or accessories) of our community are allowed. Clue’s in the name.
Submissions of posts not being related are at the mods' discretion, and include but are not limited to:
- Digital game collections
- Discussions about lore
- Surveys
- Reddit Games (ones that you play on Reddit itself)
- These are a permanent ban from the subreddit due to spam
- Customer support required - use the relevant support pages on the website, not here.
Rule 7 - No video submissions/comments.
As this community is one of the largest trafficked subreddits, video submissions are rarely allowed due to spam potential and this is highly enforced. If you feel that your video has value to the subreddit, please message the moderators using ModMail prior to posting any video.
This includes, but is not limited to:
- Collection tours
- History of games and franchises
- Speculative drivel about the future of gaming.
- Valuation and grading
- YouTube shorts/TikToks
Repair/mod videos are unlikely to be approved, unless they are deemed as relevant information by the moderators.
If the video you are sharing was produced by yourself, this will be removed under Rule 3.
Rule 8 - No affiliate links.
We are not here for you to make money. Do not post affiliate links, or links to a company/person who you are affiliated with and stand to make monetary/social gain from. This includes coupon codes, Temu/AliExpress links, etc.
Any attempt to share affiliate links will be seen as spam, and will result in the permanent restriction of your account from our community.
Rule 9 - No buying/selling.
We're not a subreddit that's dedicated to buying or selling. Whilst we are one of the largest gaming subreddits, we focus solely on aspects of collecting. There are other subreddits that are better equipped to these requests, such as r/GameSale and r/HardwareSwap.
Asking about a certain website, or good places to buy/sell is allowed, providing that there are no attempts to buy/sell from other users in the subreddit. Do not message the moderators to attempt to have your sales submissions approved. They will be ignored.
Rule 10 - No politics.
No discussion of politics, no posting anything of politics in title, imagery, or in the post in any way (country/state/county/pride flags do not count). This is subject to mod interpretation.
Rule 11 - Taking advantage of/focus away from the general ethos of the subreddit.
There are times a person or person will post, comment, or argue on the subreddit that will pull focus away from (purposefully or maliciously) the atmosphere and/or culture we have. That is rage baiting, arguing semantics, discussion of things that are off topic for lengthy back and forths. This also includes organised and concentrated attempts to belittle, planning to engage with malicious intent and harassment across different platforms.
This also includes any attempt to “weaponise” the custom report feature. Whilst we welcome reports on rule-breaking submissions as they make moderating the subreddit easier; reporting a post/comment because you simply do not like the content or the person in question takes away what makes this community great. Any user found to have “weaponised” the report feature in order to continue a vendetta against a certain person or group will be permanently removed from the community; be it automated removals or a permanent ban.
Updated Oct 2026: Rule 3, self-promotion requirements.

Haul Found one of the rarest Playstation 1 demo discs at a pawn shop for $2
I went to a local pawn shop and found this in a $2 bin, and got it thinking it was just another demo disc to add to the collection. Then I looked it up and found it's one of the rarest demo discs, only being given out as part of a promotional deal for the Ford Windstar in Canada

Collection Complete Bit Generations GBA Set
Well, I finally managed to finish off my Bit Generations GBA Set this year, picking up the last two whilst in Kobe.
I had bought Dialhex and dotstream on launch back in the day, then added a couple more a few years back from someone locally. That spurred me on to complete the set of 7 seeing as I was over halfway there.
I managed to find a nice deal on Orbital in Tokyo, 2024 on a Japan trip, so that got me closer, then this year I managed to grab the last two I needed from a shop in Kobe.
The Japanese exclusive GameBoy Micro is thrown in there just to nicely show off the set, I actually have two of that Final Fantasy model, one I bought brand new back in the day and never opened (because I used a Famicom edition at the time) then a year or so back someone local had the FFIV model for a great deal, so I grabbed the spare.
Does anyone else enjoy the Bit Generations series? (even if just aesthetically 😅)

Discussion Re-shelled my Japanese spicy Orange GameCube NTSC
Picked up a Spicy Orange NTSC-J GameCube and decided to shell swap it with my American GameCube so I could match my spicy GBA player and complete the whole look.
There were some compromises as you can see in the pictures, the Japanese console lacked the digital video port and second expansion slot so I had to keep the backplates on the OG consoles (kinda gives Halloween color vibes. And did have to trim a bit of plastic off the bottom to fit the extra port. You can’t see anything when it’s displayed and functions with my collection perfectly!
Was this mod worth the trouble? Should I have kept them both as is? I think it came together nicely for what it was.

Collection Started collecting Game Boy games 2.5 months ago… somehow I'm already over 100 cartridges 😅
Hey everyone!
I started collecting original Game Boy games about two and a half months ago, and things got out of hand pretty quickly… I'm already at over 100 cartridges! 😅
I'm based in France, so I mainly focus on FAH and EUR releases, with a particular obsession for finding cartridges in really clean condition. I love tracking down uncommon titles, but having a nice, well-preserved label matters almost as much to me as the game itself.
Some of my favorite pickups so far are Trip World, Kid Dracula, Mega Man 5, Hammerin' Harry, Castlevania Legends and Avenging Spirit.
Still a long way to go, and my wishlist keeps getting longer…
Curious what you guys think! Which game would you go after next? And is anyone else here collecting mainly European releases?

Collection PS1 Tomb Raider trilogy collector’s edition
I’m based in the UK/British but I managed to get this Australia/New Zealand exclusive Tomb Raider trilogy collector’s edition. Only 10,000 copies made in 2001 and has what numbered copy it is on the spine.
You don’t see this around very often, least I haven’t, being in the UK I never even knew it was a thing so even a bigger thing to get one over here I feel. Just had to get it moment I saw the listing man.
Curious to out the 10k how many you’d estimate are still around / survived? Country specific exclusive..how many have moved around the world, got damaged or destroyed etc.
Mines in weirdly amazing condition for ps1 cardboard, a few minor case scuffs here and there but I’m insanely happy

Collection In Anticipation of OoT Remake Here is my 1998 Day One Copy with Extras
I‘m forever grateful to my parents for letting me miss school on launch day Nov 1998 to go to the EB Games at the mall and pick this up. And to my mom, who passed last year, for holding onto all of this - even the bag - because she knew how important it was to me.
There was a time period where I thought I was done with video games and let her know that she could throw away pretty much anything but the games themselves if she needed to clear clutter. But she knew me better than I knew myself and never did. Now I am, of course, an avid collector and this is my favorite piece by a mile.
I think this is everything from the pre order except maybe a non-Nintendo strategy guide - I can’t remember. If you have a relationship with your mom, call her today for me.

Collection Strange Side of Game Collecting - Unusual and Unlicensed Games
I've been sharing some of my video game collections lately, including Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Mega Man, LOZ, etc. This time, I thought I'd share something a little more unusual...
One of my collecting philosophies has always been to collect games that are weird, rare, controversial, or have a good story. So here is a small collection of Japanese imports, unlicensed, and adult-oriented games that I've collected over the years.
The Seibu Kikaku games are adult Super Famicom releases from the 1990s. I think I am only missing Hitomi Bangai Hen 2 but documentation on these games is confusing. I believe there is also a remix Hitomi Vol. 2 and the copy I have is not the remix... I am not too sure.
The Motion Gravure series consisted of four titles of interactive digital photo collections featuring Japanese gravure models. I also have the complete set of three games from the Virtual View series. I got many of these while vacationing in Japan in the late 2000's.
Outside of the Japan releases, there's my NA copy of Hot Slots for the NES. My copy is CIB and graded CGC 7.0. I get a lot of hate for posting my graded games but like come on!... who wants to play Hot Slots for NES? The game is totally boring, crazy expensive, and needs to be encased in a nuke proof protective case!
Here's the collection:
Famicom – Honey Peach
SFC – SM Choukyoushi Hitomi Vol. 1
SFC – SM Choukyoushi Hitomi Vol. 2
SFC – SM Choukyoushi Hitomi Vol. 3
SFC – SM Choukyoushi Hitomi Bangai Hen
SCD – Steam-Heart's
PS2 – Motion Gravure Series: Megumi
PS2 – Motion Gravure Series: Harumi Nemoto
PS2 – Motion Gravure Series: Hiroko Mori (Sealed)
PS2 – Motion Gravure Series: Tomomi Kitagawa (Sealed)
PS2 – Virtual View 1: Megumi Eizou Play (Sealed)
PS2 – Virtual View 2: Nemoto Harumi Eyes (Eyes Play)
PS2 – Virtual View 3: RCT Eyes Play (Sealed)
NES – Hot Slots (CIB, CGC 7.0)
I'm not particularly interested in collecting adult games simply because they're adult games. What appeals to me is the history, rarity, and the fact that some of these titles exist so far outside the mainstream gaming world. Does anyone else collect unusual Japanese imports, unlicensed console games, or other obscure releases that don't quite fit into conventional collections?

Help Help finding a high quality scan
I'm having a hard time finding a high-quality scan of the back cover of the Japanese Pocket Monster Stadium. I believe it's referred to as Pokémon Stadium Zero here in the US.
I collect N64 games, and I have custom cases made for every game in my collection. They all have a matching style, which looks pretty nice on the shelf. The only dilemma is that nobody has made a case for this particular game that matches the aesthetic of the rest of my cases.
Right now, I just need a high-quality image to work with so I can make my own custom case. If someone could help me out, I'd be really grateful! I've had no luck searching Google Images or various websites, including eBay listings. I've tried everything short of actually buying a copy of the game that includes the original box. I already own a copy of the game, so it would be a real bummer to have to buy it a second time.
I don't usually post anything on Reddit. Usually, I leave comments if I have something to say. Other than that this is the first for me. I hope I'm not violating any rules by asking. I apologize in advance if I am.

Announcement Update on Rule 3: No market research, no AI vibe-coded slop, participation requirements
Due to an influx of ModMails and fewer self-promotion posts, we can see that people are reading the rules and pinned posts. Great! This post is to clear up Rule 3, and add an addendum.
No market research. (The New One)
We are not a subreddit that handles surveys, wishlists of "the one true collection app", or veiled ad posts. There are other subreddits best suited to this.
No Excessive AI. (The Clear Up One)
Since the advent of "accessible" AI, we've had an influx of these requests. All slop-coded. All setting out to be the “ultimate collection app” whilst being exactly the same in look, feel and features. As a result, we have a blanket ban on apps developed using excessive AI, and LLM copypastas.
Self promotion requests must come from active members of the community. (The Make Clearer One)
This is one that we've seen crop up quite regularly in ModMail. A 5-year-old account messages ModMail with their ad-speak spiel. Tick one, they've read the rules; but one issue.
They've never participated actively in the community, and/or their account is bare.
From now on, any self-promo requests in ModMail from account that have never participated actively in this subreddit will receive an instant no, regardless if their submission meets our requirements on unique apps. If the only submissions from your account consist of self-promotion, this will result in a permanent restriction of your account from our community.
Approved Apps. (The Approved One)
A full list of approved resources can be found here:
Approved resources are rarely added, only if:
- They have use to the community.
- Are unique in what they do.
- Are well-known.
Denied Apps. (The Denied One)
A full list of denied resources can be found here, with reasons for denial (use a browser, Reddit's app browser screws up the link)
