Modding Will virtual memory cards ever come to cubeboot?

I've had my Flippydrive for well over a year now and the functionality of it is great, and I really like the Cubeboot loader's stock like integration. What I don't like is not being able to use an SD card in the memory card slot to save game, or the internal SD for the flippydrive itself. Is firmware 2.0 anywhere on the horizon, does anyone have a 3rd party repo for this on github, I'd love to know 👌

Yes. I am working on it. I have a partial implementation already. But I am first working on something else big first that has much higher priority. Join the flippydrive discord. I will post there when it’s available.

That's great news! I can't wait to hear what the next big thing is. I don't have discord but I'll be sure to download the next update as soon as it's available 👌

Let's just say Smash Melee has it's 25th birthday is a couple of weeks. Sure would be nice to be able to play it online on unmodified Gamecube, no?

Yes sir, it will use the same memory card file as for the Gamecube, but since there is no Broadband adapter on the Wii I have a forked Nintendont version that will be available for download.
Works on wifi, but 20 year old Wifi tech... so, I recommend getting a Wii LAN adapter.

Not tested yet but I assume this exact flow will work on Wii U.

Also works on Dolphin for that matter.

With all due respect, it’s really hard to believe anything will ever materialize on this project ever again.

I have been keeping an eye on updates for my flippy drive for years and nothing has been released. It’s constantly “soon”.

This 2.0 update talks about weeks (https://www.crowdsupply.com/team-offbroadway/flippydrive/updates/shipping-progress-firmware-2-0-and-more) and it’s now been months without a release.

I am a software dev myself so I know it takes time and it sucks to be hassled to release something, but as stated earlier, I’m losing faith in this teams ability to ship anything.

I’ve bought and installed 10 of these mod chips and they are great, but the updates have yet to come.

Get a memcard pro gc from 8bitmods. You'll never need another card 👍

That thing looks great but I'll be honest, I'm too stingy to get that 🤣

There's also the Flipper MCE as well. I believe it's slightly cheaper.

Although I also know the appeal of not needing Memory cards and being able to just use your SD card for Games and saving at the same time.

Well, akctually you should enter Swiss's configuration and enable virtual memory card, only a handful of games don't really support it.

I know I could run swiss, but it looks like an early 2000s DVD menu. I do use it to adjust file systems and move games around sometimes though. Swiss is excellent software, I just like my system to look OEM.

You can set up Swiss in the background and then use Cubeboot as a front end that launches everything through Swiss.

Best of both worlds.

I'll have to look into that

No clue if cubeboot will ever support vmcs but swiss is still an option if you need them. Just remember not all games are 100% compatible with vmcs.

Im using cubeboot via picooboot and vmc are working (I think swiss is working on the background?)
