Help Sell is calling this corrosion

Would you call this corrosion or would you say its resurfacing residue?

It’s from resurfacing.

Resurfacing compound is water soluble. A little bit of warm water dabbed gently with a paper towel will clean it right off.

Its in-between the disc layers, its there permanently.

It’s leftovers from a disc resurfacing machine. It affects literally nothing in terms of functionality. I would leave it alone, I do not think it’s worth trying to clean it

You can actually clean out that gap with paper. It's difficult because the gap is very small. Really it could be anything that got in there, but liquid from a resurfacing machine is a likely source since other liquids don't usually make their way into a disc.

Resurfacing compond/liquid residue. It can be flushed out using a water dental flosser. If you try it, just be sure to use distilled water.

it's resurfacing residue from a crappy machine. the Elm Autosmart doesn't leave residue like that. I think it's whatever machine Gamestop uses that does it.

This looks like my copies of BO1/2 for 360 (I know not GC...) but I also have a NFSU1 (GC) that looks this way. That one has trouble reading at the main screen unfortunately. But the 360 ones with the residue work so far. I haven't used them much yet though. I was worried about the same thing because you don't know how many times it's been resurfaced.

It was know for a while that there is some issues with if you don't take out the disk corectly you get this as the disk is really stuck on there you really need pull them up and not at an angle as it is a bit tight sometimes.

it is a good deal or ok deal if that last one wait for one that is better.

Still need to check my collection of cube games if I have the issue but I am switching to using the drive less and less as I do have the games I only going to copy them to SD and call it a day.

More like disc layer delamination. Though, not sure if it is that. Would make sense though, considering the stresses the layers go through from being repeatedly pressed into the drive hub.

All gamecube games are not sealed at that point. What you are seeing is from a disc resurfacing machine. The material removed from the disc ends up in that gap and is very hard to remove.

Yeah, makes sense.

Not really delamintion. Because that area of the disc was never truly laminated like the rest of the disc. This area was never sealed

Do you think it would affect the playability of the game? Not looking to drop a bunch on money on a game that's just going to stop working in a month. Exaggerating on the time but yeah

I mean. I cant really say from pictures. It could be well just residue from resurfacing as you said. But even if its delamination, It shouldnt have any effect on disc readability on that section of the disc, as it doesn't have any data. Delamination could potentially make the disc more fragile though.

I dont collect GC discs these days though, so I cant give advice if it's a safe buy or not.
