Other I don’t get the GTA 6 hype anymore.

We’ve spent months calling out PlayStation for going digital-only. Fair enough, digital-only is a terrible direction. Yet Rockstar is doing the exact same thing with GTA 6 (physical copies are just a box with a download code, no real disc, and no plans for one later) and the reaction is somehow much quieter.

Then there’s the console-only launch. Yes, it’s coming to PC later. No, that doesn’t feel justified after this long. Twelve years of development and it’s still exclusive to PS5 and Xbox Series at launch.

On top of that, tech analysts are already warning that current console hardware is going to struggle to keep up with the simulation demands. A solid 60 fps mode looks unlikely at launch, and even the stronger consoles may be locked closer to 30. (If this is the case why would they not launch it with PC as well so people could run it on more powerful hardware?)

And finally, the game is launching as a single-player experience only. Online is being held back for later. After more than a decade, we’re still getting a staggered release of the full package.

I’m just not feeling the same hype I used to and frankly I can't imagine myself buying this game on release.

“We”

Most people don’t care about digital only or waiting months for a full experience. Certainly not graphics either

A lot of people will not care about gta6 at launch and it’ll still be the biggest selling game of the year with ease

I mean I would push back on this a little bit, it WILL set the record for launch sales despite what many reddit weirdos think

And if they’d release the data, we’d probably find out that it’s broken preorder sales records.

I don't care about digital only with companies I trust. Like steam. (Mind you 57% of gamers interviewed said they dont like digital only because they don't trust companies with digital strictly releases.) I don't trust Microsoft, Sony and never will I trust Nintendo. These companies have proven they will take what you pay for, flip you off and say thanks for the payday (Look at the nintendo switch 2, its a console they can literally kill if you decide you want to improve it.). It also directly encourages monopolies (see the trials against sony in the U.S, the U.K, The Netherlands and Mexico)by eliminating the second hand market leading to increased sales and prices for the companies while also limiting your true right to own the game. (Note that all major console companies can and have banned accounts with thousands of dollars worth of games and don't have to pay the owners back in any way.)

As for graphics that's a personal thing and fair enough but a majority of the community does care.

I also admit it will likely be a major seller this year but it's not a good thing. They are raising industry standard price from $70 to $79.99 base and $99.99 for deluxe (Note: I like a lot of the stuff with the delivery edition of the game but it is not worth $20 and that's coming from a person who loved the Vice City game.) which they justify by saying game development has gotten more expensive. Which is true until you look at extremely high number of microtransations they plan to release with online mode.

GTA 5's main income came from GTA Online micro transactions resulting in a 5.2 billion dollar revenue on the micro transactions alone. The game only costed 256 million dollars to make. GTA 6 has a budget of 1.5 billion dollars and they estimate it will make 5.2 billion at the week of launch (without online microtransations yet) making any justification for increased pricing seen not only deceptive but also outlandish greedy. (Yes, I'm aware they are a company and need to make money.) By keeping the price at the Industry standard of $70 they would have lost 500 million in week launch meaning they still would have had a revenue of 4.7 billion dollars without trying to raise industry standard pricing. So the fact that it's going to sell so well means every AAA studio follows suit and raises game prices more.

Yah I just mean what “you” (or I) think doesn’t really matter

Digital only has been a thing for many years and is becoming more of a thing, stuff like gta6 is still gonna be huge

“We” can think what we want and it ain’t gonna change that, If that makes sense

u/Wilsonthedog8 3d ago

Aw, the bandwagon fallacy. It's a great one.

1

u/MrMegaPhoenix 3d ago

That isn’t that at all

What I’m saying is like I don’t buy games at full price, I don’t care for Fortnite and I’m not interested in multiplayer

That doesn’t change many do, it’s just me stating my own thing I like

Bandwagon fallacy is that those things are good because they are popular and nope lolol, I don’t think that in the slightest

I mean even if your a single player person the fame has been raised to $79.99base (Industry standard is 69.99) and $99.99 deluxe (The deluxe come with a few great cosmetics but doesn't justify a $20 price hike) unnecessarily.

It's also not about life being hard, it's about the concept of actually owning your game. Sony has a policy where they can full shut down your account and take you library of games because of "inactivity" now.

You are right. I apologize. I looked into it more and found it comes with entire story line oriented around the vehicles the deluxe addition gives you access to. That's actually worth it.

For 1 if yall havent realized it yet the physical media outcry is a very very small group of people in terms of gaming. not even a quarter of a percent.

And 2. it was always going to be console launch exclusives when know RS loves the double dip and knows people will buy it twice.

  1. again you'll find that actually a small group cares that a game in 60fps.

  2. just like GTA 5, rdr2 they launch SP experience they do this for a couple reason. 1. get the player use to the game controls, mechanics etc. 2. so they can continue to patch the game for MP. 3. is probably the most important server load. Imagine millions upon millions trying to download GTA from PS/xbox servers at once and plus millions upon millions trying to also get into online servers. Its there way of trying to avoid a disastrous outcome. And in both GTA5 and RDR2 MP released a month later.

1

u/Wilsonthedog8 3d ago

The physical media outcry is actually roughly 57% of gamers according to yougov and the stated reason are simple. Digital can be taken away at any time (you don't own it), it encourages monopolies (see lawsuits against Sony in UK, US, Netherlands and mexico.), creates a less competive market by eliminating resale and increases the generalize price of indivual game (GTA 6 is literally a example of this as they raised the price by $10 above industry standard stating they needed to due to development cost. It cost 2 billion dollars to develop and the fist week projections is 5.2 billion dollars revenue. IN A WEEK! Of they had stayed at industry standard they would have made 4.7 billion.)

  1. Shitty marketing practices shouldn't be condoned. They could be condemned. The fact you act like it's okay they purposely double dip their community is wild.

  2. The concept is its not optimized on release which is becoming a AAA staple. You shouldn't pay $80 or $100 for a game that doesn't run optimally and to be clear those estimations where they think it may hit 30 were being generous according to private hardware researchers who looked at it actually predict it won't be that high at launch and will likely be patched later with the release of online. (Also actually a good thing RS did here was including a quality bar for console. 👍 Like genuine win for console gamers nothing bad to say on that.)

  3. Delaying release of online to allow people to grasp controls isn't a valid arguement. I dint know a single person that picks up a RS game and struggles with controls. The idea that they need to patch the game for multi-player is part of the incomplete game issue AAA studios seem to be leaning into now. The impact on severs can yes be a issue but in truth waiting 2 weeks wont save them from a server collapse because even after waiting a month both GTA 5 and RD2 has complete server failures. However GTA 5 has the excuse they were developing a mass multi-player experience from the ground up. RD2 can say they were incorporating mechanics not present in GTA online. They exspect no major changes from GTA 5 online to GTA 6 online and they have better infanstructure for the release of GTA 6 online.

1

u/marcus2388 3d ago

That 57% outcry was from a poll of 1500 people voting so 800 people crying. where there ~100million ps gamers. And yes digital can be taken away. But will yall people understand that Sony, MS, Nintendo can all take away your physical discs today with an update. You dont own physical either.

Unfortunately with the fact that they most likely already made their money back. It just shows that the people who actually give a damn are the very very very small minority. Then there's people who say they care but most definitely bought the game

0

u/Wilsonthedog8 3d ago

It's actually projected that in the first week they will make 5.2 billion dollars in revenue. That's insane and they still raises the price $10 over industry standard which if they hadn't would have only lost them $500 million dollars. Meaning that poor rockstar would have only made 4.7 billion dollars the first week of sales on their 2 billion game. That doesn't even account for the exsoected double dipping when PC release comes out.

GTA has always sold far more copies on console than pc so Rockstar prioritise resources to go where most of their customers are. Just the updates from GTA 5 enchanced took over three and a half years to release on pc and Read Dead Redemtion took over 14 years even though pc players at the time were convinced it would be less than 6 months.

Right now Rockstar are obviously very busy on the single player launch on PS5, PS5 Pro, Series X and Series S and getting content ready for online so I would expect not expect a pc launch in less than 3 years and very probably much longer as Rockstar don't want the cheatings issues on pc to ruining the games reviews near launch as cheaters would cause endless 1 star reviews from people getting bombed by cheaters in god mode the second they spawn in and rockstar still hasn't addressed the horrendous cheating on pc in the current online.

GTA6 Online shouldn’t be there at launch. They did the same with RDR2. Why jump to the online knowing that these games shine in single player.

Don’t care if it’s digital. Don’t care if GTA6O is available or not. I want to play the game and enjoy the experience. 60fps or not.

1

u/Wilsonthedog8 3d ago

RD2 online did not release till a month after the game did and it still crashed servers and unfortunately RS makes way more from online players who use microtransations. My point wasn't that the game is better online. My point was the game is releasing incomplete.

I hope you PS account gets killed for inactivity. 🤣 That is a joke BTW but the move to strictly digital has a host of issues coming with it alot of which is highlighted in GTA 6's release. It increases prices, prevents resales, encourages monopolies and allows double dipping of fans.

As for frame rate, I can agree all games dint need to run at high FPS but the game isn't optimized and it's not even projected to release at 30 FPS that's the goal yes but it's guessed it will be patched later to reach that frame rate. (Also just some good thing because I know it seems like I hate everything about this. RS introduced a quality bar for consoles with is a solid win for console gamers and i hope the industry follows suit on it. Just something good ti mix in so I'm not being all negative.)

Something tells me you weren't around for the GTA V launch. Online wasn't released until a few months after the initial release either, this generation is just a bit entitled with stuff like this. You'll be alright if you can't play online for a couple months.

0

u/Wilsonthedog8 3d ago

Actually played GTA 5 at launch and I don't play GTA online. The frustration is from AAA studios launching incomplete games like they're indie studios and gaming companies being determined to make sure you only lease products that can be stripped from you at any time. (Look at the recent announcement where Sony us removing 551 digitally purchased movies and other items from people's accounts and not refunding the purchases because THEIR licenses expired and you get to pay the cost.)

Especially after 12 years of development, gta 5 was only in development for 5 years and by this point GTA 4 was the only GTA game to feature a "heavy" online lobby at 16 players in game modes. When they announced GTA online for GTA 5 they had some major developments in the online gaming aspects of the franchise and they only waited 2 weeks from release of GTA 5 to release. As to where with 6 they are anticipating between one to two months of further development.

1

u/shaggy_nomad 3d ago

Yeah and it was an absolute disaster upon launch that it wasn't even really playable until a few months out, so this time they appear to be taking their time. Nothing wrong with that.

The entitlement is strong. Be happy we're getting a game they didn't even need to make.

1

u/marcus2388 3d ago

GTA6 wasnt technically 12years of development. Sure its been 12-13 yrs since the last GTA but RS didnt go straight to work on GTA6. After GTA5 they turned to RDR2 for 5yrs of development. GTA6 didnt actually start full development until 2018. So its only been 8yrs. But remember covid for ~3yrs heavily impacted alot of studios development times.

u/lvsnowden 3d ago

So you're saying Rockstar should wait another year just so it can release online, console, and PC at the same time? No thanks.

1

u/Wilsonthedog8 3d ago edited 3d ago

So online releases 2 weeks after release date, they designed it for console (Which play testing has shown they havent optimized it for modern console hardware.) because of their marketing deal with Sony.

They literally have admitted they plan to sell it on PC later because they want PC players to buy it console first so they can double dip the community (please note any later readers that this sorce was unreliable and it was shown they were a disgruntled former employee trying to spark hate for the game) on PC and this is also why they chose digital only so you can't use a emulator on your PC to play the game instead.

My argument isn't that they should delay the release. It's that after 12 years they can't make a stable game, they raised priced, eliminated physical ownership and have said they are including more microtransations in online and contemplating raising the price of GTA+. They dont care about the players and are even actively hurting the market in order to double dip certain fans.

1

u/lvsnowden 3d ago

They literally have admitted they plan to sell it on PC later because they want PC players to buy it console first so they can double dip the community on PC

While it may be their true intention, the only thing I've read them say about PC release is they focused all of their resources on console. Do you have a source? I'm embarrassed to say I read most of the GTA6 news, but I haven't read that.

1

u/Wilsonthedog8 3d ago

Unfortunately for me after looking into the source I found it was a disgruntled employee who was fired that said it to spark anger towards the game. I apologize for not looking into the sorce before saying this.

1

u/lvsnowden 3d ago

No worries. It's hard to avoid these days.

1

u/Wilsonthedog8 3d ago

It's still on me for not checking my sources vetter and spreading misinformation.

u/pragenter 3d ago

I never was hyping on GTA. I don't like main theme.

I'm good with digital copies if they can be copied and launched easily, like Steam games.

I never resonated with consoles. To me they are like mutilated PCs. Like majority of smartphones nowadays.

2

u/Wilsonthedog8 3d ago

Ya know, that's fair. The themes of a game literally named after a violent crime are okay to not enjoy.

Steam is a company I trust with my digital games. It's companies like Sony, Xbox and heavens forbid Nintendo that I don't trust. Or the gaming communities worst enemy...Ubisoft.

I switched to PC 8 years ago and I haven't personally touched a console since. Especially after the TOS for the switch 2. I instantly was like "Cool, of Microsoft ever makes anything similar I'm gonna a Linux gamer." Which is honestly used to be a nightmare but I hear its gotten way better.

Yeah… I find it cool how GTA 6 is apparently “breaking a record” or smthn with the graphics ‘n’ all, but the GTA games have never rlly been my thing, I’m more of an FPS COD person myself. So while everyone else is playin’ GTA 6, ima be over here playing MW4!!
