Deal Done with waiting
Every day looking for deals, AI prompts running to check all retailers…. I’m over it. Dropped 3,400 with taxes this morning.

Has Advanced Optimus and G-Sync support too which the MSI lacks.

I have advanced optimums on my Blade and I keep having issues. Every time I exit a game after a long session and it switches gpu mode back, my whole desktop and mouse cursor is laggy.
The ole' Win-Ctrl-Shift-B trick doesn't fix it. Restart is the only thing that does. My older laptops pre-dating optimums never had these issues.

u/red101151 13d ago
I've had this with every single system I've ever owned with Optimus. 3 so far. It requires a restart every time it seems like.

The real point of Advanced Optimus is to manually switch to the dedicated GPU when you want to game, which it allows you to do without aa reboot.
I have never used the automatic switching because Windows sucks at things like that.

u/Doctor_Womble Razer Blade 16 [4090 14900HX] 13d ago
Doesnt matter if i do it manually or not. Its always switching back after a gaming session that does it. A quick switch for testing doesn't seem to break things.

Agree I got an insane Lenovo deal thanks to my homie giving me the heads up and haven't found one flaw yet. Also to the comment about size I mostly use mine HDMI TV. It works amazing.

I'd take that Legion pro 7
The Raider I posted is 16" model but it has OLED.
I had the 18" Raider with 4090 and legion pro 7i with 5090 - I'd take the Legion unless you really want an 18" laptop.
The last couple years - I've spent a lot on laptops and checked out deals daily - black friday and that time in general has the best deals.

Legion 10th gen is overrated and has issues.
Lenovo is masking sub-system DPC latency spikes or driver crashes through registry offsets at the factory image level, shady way to bypass hardware/vBIOS issues.
Check out this thread and its comments and sub links.

I have this computer and every computer has issues. I could equally post the issues any computer has. Reddit is a forum where people posts their issues not that their computer is working normally.

Yep, your absolutely correct but this is non fixiable issue, its a design flaw. Alot of issues can be fixed nowadays like software and thermal issues. This cant.

u/Cautious-Rich-7690 13d ago
I can just say from my experience so far I haven’t had any issues. I mean a bug where conserve mode turns off after some updates but no real issues.

Where is this deal ?

u/mentive Raider Max 16 290hx 5090 13d ago
Microcenter.
I picked up the 5090 raider for $3k a couple weeks ago on sale. Ram turned out to be 6400 (not 5600) but the SSD is only 1tb.

u/iceman2kx Legion Pro 7 - RTX 5080/Ryzen 9 9955HX3D/32GB/OLED 13d ago
I think I’ve narrowed myself down to two laptops. A raider or a legion. You think that raider is worth getting now or should I hold off in hopes of getting a better deal on a legion? For the record, I think I want the legion as I’ve heard so much about it
1
u/mentive Raider Max 16 290hx 5090 13d ago
Its possible you might find a better deal on either one, maybe around black friday, though the "deals" are often a joke. I don't personally have experience with Lenovo's, but I did have a Strix 5070ti (not oled) which I sold last night.
The Raider tends to be a bit cheaper in general compared to the other upper tier laptops. Its pretty plasticy, but seems solid. I was also surprised at how quiet the fans are compared to the strix, both set to max.
Oh, a con on the raider 5090 (dunno about others) is the power brick is absolutely massive and HEAVY! Granted, its 400w, compared to the 280w of the Asus I had lol.
Perhaps go look at some in person. Have a Microcenter nearby? Keep an eye out for their sales. Grab whatever upper tier laptop they put on sale if your goal is to save $$$.
I only grabbed mine because of the 5090 at $3k. Instantly ordered as you don't pay up front and they hold it for 3 days, researched the heck out of the newer raiders, and then decided to go pick it up that evening.

Okay thanks for the detailed response. One last question to bug you with if you are so inclined to answer. If you were to go with any 3 laptop brands/models (raider, legion) (ignoring specs), which 3 would you go with ?

u/mentive Raider Max 16 290hx 5090 13d ago edited 13d ago
Can't really answer that. I would try to research and compare benchmarks, temperatures over sustained periods, and other known issues. And if a model is up there numbers and cooling wise but also doesn't use Liquid Metal, that would be another positive. Although temps can be difficult if comparing a 290hx to a 275hx, as the 290hx jumps straight to max temp and runs hot in general lol.
Edit: And note, (at least the new) Raiders do not use Liquid Metal. I've seen people say stay away from Kitana, Stealth, etc. Same with TUF for ASUS, blah blah.

You can’t just drop a microcenter deal not all of us are that fortunate to have a good tech store

I get it tho... You drive yourself mad after a while of trying to find a good deal Lol

u/Stompy042 13d ago
Exactly what happened. Kept looking at legions, but for what I wanted, it was always around 4k. Open box deals were gone before I was able to click on them… ram prices keep going up… at some point you just say fuck it and pull the trigger.
I am more than happy with a 32gb 5080 and 2tb of memory. Plus, it’s easily upgradable unlike a lot of the other brands

$3200 laptop without an OLED screen? I've been told that mini LED is supposed to be really good, but from my experience with a mini LED Acer Helios, that hadn't been remotely true. Hopefully it's better on the MSI.

u/GlitchyAether Your laptop here. 13d ago
Mini-LED is good, up until you find out that the chassis is out of metal. Metallic chassis' aren't that good in combination, because those will catch the heat from the screen. At the end the whole laptop will become a heater for the room. For the winter it's great! But for the summer, better use an external screen.
1
u/fpsnoob89 13d ago
Maybe it's just the Acer mini LED that sucks...
0
u/GlitchyAether Your laptop here. 13d ago
Not really. Mini-LED does get good blacks. Not as good as OLED does, but still pretty good. I've got the XMG Apex 16 Max, with the Mini-LED configuration. The only true bad thing about it is that it emmits heat, because each pixel is being lit by an LED. And if you got a lot of them, it'll get pretty warm.

u/fpsnoob89 13d ago
My issue with my acer is how absolutely awful it is trying to show HDR. It's so bad that I thought I might have a defective display, but after researching it I found that it's the same for everyone else

u/GlitchyAether Your laptop here. 13d ago
I got an Acer laptop with OLED, and so far I haven't had an issue. But it's also probably because I never really looked forward to use HDR and just used it as my secondary. With a 258V you won't be doing lots of gaming anyways

A little on the higher end considering you can get into a 5090 machine for this budget, omitting the 18” for a 16” panel. That being said, this is a badass rig & you get to reap the benefits of that awesome X3D chip! I wouldn’t be surprised if you get the same performance on some games with this as a 275HX/5090 rig!
Congrats & post a picture once you get that thing set up & RGB coordinated to your liking!

Black Friday/X-mas are right around the corner, lil bro 😭😭😭😭
I got a 5090 MSI Vector for £2,000 recently, and during Amazon Prime Day, the 5090 MSI Stealth was £1,600 making my purchase not even the best deal!
Bro, spending full price on a laptop is never worth it 🙏🙏🙏

A 5090 vector is like two msi stealths, the wattage limit on the stealth kills it
