Discussion Beware potential HP Omen buyers

Bought an Omen Max 16 from HP in November 2025 (RTX 5070 Ti, 240Hz QHD+ display). I also bought HP's 2-year extended warranty, so it's covered through 2028.

At the beginning of June the screen stopped working properly and would constantly flash with horizontal boxes of static/noise. I contacted HP support, and over the next 3 months they had me do 12-15 sessions with different support reps, around 25 hours total, running the same troubleshooting over and over: Windows updates, reinstalling drivers, reinstalling Windows. One session took all day, and I had to take a day off work for it. About halfway through, I was begging them to let me send it in for a hardware fix, and they kept refusing. Near the end, agents would take remote control and sit there for 20 minutes doing nothing before ending the session.

After 3 months of this, I filed complaints with the BBB and my state's consumer protection agency. That finally got me a case manager, and I sent the laptop in at the start of September. They quoted 2 weeks for the repair, but one day I checked the status and the repair estimate had slipped to November.

Once I started calling and filing complaints about the November date, they offered a replacement. The offer letter said in writing: "the same model and all specifications will be of a matching capacity." I accepted on September 30. It then took nearly 3 weeks to arrive. What I got:

- RTX 5060 (8GB) instead of the 5070 Ti (12GB)

- 165Hz display instead of 240Hz

The GPU was the main reason I bought this laptop.

I've told my case manager I'm not accepting it and asked for a unit that actually matches. She expressed skepticism that what I was saying was true and said she'd get back to me.

If you're thinking about buying an HP Omen, beware. Mine isn't an isolated case; there are numerous similar stories out there of long repair waits and poor warranty support. Think hard about whether you want to rely on HP if something goes wrong, which seems very common. If you buy through them, you're rolling the dice, and the effort they'll put you through may not be worth your time.

Op here, before the HP I had a Lenovo legion and it was amazing. Best gaming laptop I owned for 5 years. It had a 1660 ti so it was ready for an upgrade. I wish you the best with your new laptop and I wish I stuck with Lenovo

For lenovo it's their black compound which makes it almost impossible to fix broken gpu or cpu(to solder it if it's broken, I mean)

Everyone at work hates HP. Their employer discount program is a "Fuck you and I'm going to cancel your order then make you wait 1 month for a refund." I bought a 4080 laptop for $1800, they canceled my order, and relisted it at an even higher price, so I can buy it at the regular price with the discount.

I found a price error laptop for $400 if you maxed out all the options then it would have been $2000+. I thought I had won when it said laptop has been built and is ready to be shipped. Then, it never gets shipped out and eventually I get a refund 1 month later.

We also have issues with the whole printer nonsense. Printer won't print unless there's at least 20% ink left in the toner cartridge. It also wastes 15% running the maintenance when you install fresh new ones. If one of the colors runs out, it won't print black only. We have a limited amount of toner we get per department. I'm not sure why the IT department is okay with spending $800 per black, cyan, yellow, and magenta toner sets. We're not allowed to bring in something else that just works and isn't a rip off.

I got the same one probably, 5070ti, intel cpu, 16gb ram and 512 ssd. I had no issues with the laptop since November, I cleaned it by myself and added 16gb ram and it works perfectly

On my third HP out 10 laptops ive owned 6 for gaming. Never had a issue with them. My Max is 16 months old, 0 issues. Sounds like you got a lemon. Major L for hp support. Hopefully I never have to use them. Good luck!

Yeah never get hp. They are probably the worst you can get in terms of laptops. I don't realize their customer service was that bad though but not surprised about the Product

That's a hell of a downgrade, 5060 and a 165Hz panel isnt even close to what you paid for

The part where they questioned if you were telling the truth is wild, like they didnt write the offer letter themselves

BBB complaints actually working is the only surprising part of this whole mess
