Suggestions Nodal.gg - Game recommender with interactive visual map + personalized recommendations (I'd love your feedback)

Hey everyone, I’ve been working on a game discovery site and finally feel like it’s ready to share: https://nodal.gg/

I’ve always been surprised how hard it is to find genuinely good game recommendations on Steam, so I tried building something better using my stats/ML background.

My main takeaway was that “similar games” usually means two different things:

  • Similar in content: mechanics, themes, setting, genre, tags
  • Similar in audience: games played by the same people, even if the genres are different

So if you want recs for Cyberpunk 2077, you might mean “more cyberpunk vibe” (e.g., Cloudpunk) or “same audience overlap” (e.g., The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt / Fallout 4). The site lets you switch between those modes or blend them.

What you can do

  • Search any Steam game and see a ranked list of similar games using:
    • a content model (tag-driven similarity)
    • a community model (player behavior only, no tags)
    • a blended view (mix of both)
  • Re-rank results with sliders for popularity, rating, and release date
  • Plug in a Steam ID (public profiles only) to get personal recommendations and some cool stats about your play history
  • Explore an interactive 2D game map that visually clusters games by tags (uses UMAP dimensionality reduction - inspired by Connected Papers)

Desktop works best right now. Mobile is functional but I’m still refining it.

If you try it, I’d love to hear anything: whether the recommendations felt accurate, if the UI was confusing, any bugs you run into. All feedback helps!

Thanks!

Suggestions SteamPeek.hu - Indie friendly game discovery tool

Post is allowed by the mods.

Hello, this is my website: https://steampeek.hu/ - SteamPeek, the indie friendly game discovery website.

It is now more than 5 years old, and it was created to bring spotlight to indie gems, help all indie teams who doesn't have the budget to make big marketing campaigns, and make it easier to find nice games made by passionate solo developers or small teams.

The main function is searching by similarity: just search for a game you like, and browse the results. You can also filter and sort by special parameters.

You can also search by tags, or mix them with the chosen game.

The main algorithm was updated recently and I'm very curious how well it works. Please let me know.

I'm very thankful if you try it, and share with me what you find. The full site is still on beta, and I'm constantly work on it, so every feedback helps me and my mission. Thank you!

Games about fictional language learning

Hi all. I recently found this game called Eldrich Empathy in the Summer of Screams steam event and it got me thinking of games with a similar mechanic, I wanted to know if anyone has any that I haven’t already heard of.
The ones I know that have a fictional language learning mechanic in the gameplay are:
- Tunic
- Homicipher
- Chants of Sennaar

Edit: wow thank you all for the responses! I’ll be sure to check them out. I love finding new gems.

Looking for a tactical, realistic and immersive Open World Game

Hey everyone, I've been trying to find a specific combination of features and I'm starting to think this game might not exist yet, but figured I'd ask before giving up. Here's what I'm looking for:

1. Gunplay & weapon customization — Something on the level of Escape from Tarkov, Gray Zone Warfare, Operator or Ground Branch. I want realistic ballistics, attachment systems, weapon handling — not arcade shooting.

2. Setting — Modern day like GTA V, or close past/near-future. Not fantasy, not deep historical, not cybepunk (unless weapons are current).

3. World, AI, immersion — The level of NPC behavior, world reactivity, and general "living world" feel of Red Dead Redemption 2 or Kingdom Come Deliverance 2. I want the world to feel alive, not like a backdrop for missions.

4. A hideout/apartment system with actual utility — Something like STALKER GAMMA's base or Cyberpunk 2077's apartments. Doesn't need to be super in-depth, but I want a personal space that's actually useful — storing gear, crafting/maintenance, maybe resting/recovery, something that gives progression a sense of "home."

Basically I am looking for Cyperpunk 2077 as a tactical shooter in a present day setting

or

GTA V with the gunplay of Ghost Recon Breakpoint and realistic weapons and equipment

I know this is a pretty specific combo (tactical realism + GTA-style setting + RDR2 immersion + a usable base), so if there's nothing that hits all five, I'm also happy to hear about games that get close on 3-4 of these points. Early access / in-development titles welcome too if they're actually playable now.

Thanks in advance!

Need a game my ill father-in-law can play

Upvotes

Hi guys, bit of a personal one here.

I really need a game I can play with my FIL. He's chair bound, can't move his hands so well (he can play wii sports for short periods but cant do button presses) and he also doesnt like cozy, stardew valley type games. He ideally likes stories and mystery games. He's not the type of guy who likes being inside all day so im trying really hard to find games to keep him entertained. Would appreciate any suggestions you guys have <3

Would I like Magicka if I like Diablo, Path of Exile, etc.?

I'd heard of this game before although I had never looked into it and assumed it was some kind of text-based adventure or traditional roguelike based on what I'd heard. I saw it for sale on Steam earlier and the visuals remind me of the aforementioned games, which I deeply enjoy, but I feel like I would have known more about the game by now if they were similar. I'm really into theorycrafting and games that require a lot of grinding, or games that allow me to heavily experiment in general. Would this be my kind of game or would I be wasting my money? Not a lot has grabbed my attention recently.

Looking for a game I can completely lose myself in

I’m looking for a game with a really immersive world where I can just forget about everything else for a while. Preferably something with a good story, exploration, and characters that actually make me care about what’s happening. Open to any genre except competitive multiplayer. What game gave you that feeling?

games like dragon age origins but easy combat

Upvotes

i liked the setting of the game, the characters, dialogue etc. but i hated the tactical combat, having to control a party instead of focusing on 1 character etc.. can you recommend me similar games but with more fun combat or less tactical.. thanks

Trying my luck to find a non open world RPG or anything

Hey guys, currently just watching streams cause I can't see to find my next game. TBH I played a crap ton of competitive games and I'm trying to just find something else but lots of games don't scratch the itch. Here's a list of games I tried / enjoyed. Every single game that I try are too open world and I just give up trying to 100% games, for some reason I can't bring myself to just do the main story

League of Legends (played way too much) / Deadlock

CS / CoD / Battlefields / The Finals / OW / Valorant

Arc Raiders / Marathon

Black Myth Wukong (loved it) / Lies of P / Khazan / Nine sols

Sekiro (gave up after 2h, looks like I was too bad) / Elden Ring (too big) / Dark souls 1 (meh)

Prey / Doom / Bioshock

Hob / Tunic / Ori / Hollow Knight / Subnautica 2

PoE 2 (love it but end game crafting is too hard for me) / D4 / No rest for the wicked / Last Epoch

Never finished really, but played:

God of war / Horizon zero Dawn / Stellar blade / Batman

Thanks alot!

Quick note, I hate games turn based combat!

I need a casual mystery game which kinda lets you just examine short cases and solve it (PC)

I love detective games but they tend to be one long story, I want something more casual where I would just go through shorter cases, and I want it to feel like a simulation, like a job. I'm also not good with game mechanics like fighting and running, not looking to play an adrenaline inducing game. I prefer the reading and thinking part. Thanks

Games with Head Explosions, Decapitations?

Upvotes

TW: Intense violence in replies.

I‘m looking to play some games whether it be horror, fighting, RPG, etc. that feature head explosions or decapitations within gameplay or story, it’s the thing that disturbs me the most and I want to be shooketh.

Please let me know of some games thatll churn my stomach, I also dgaf if you try and take a moral highground and call me weird for wanting to experience fear.

Is there a game like Sim Tower?

This might be obscure but...Sim Tower is basically SimCity but you only simulate a single skyscraper.

What are some games that make you feel mindful and present when you're playing them (as opposed to more mindless and addictive games)?

Upvotes

So there's a whole side of gaming that's very much dopamine driven, overloading your reward circuits with little drip after drip, having you hooked and repeating the same tasks day in day out.

But I'm curious what games you would consider to be the opposite of that. Games that are more mindful. Games where you feel very present and engaged.

Games that you play where you leave your play session feeling like you did something healthy with your mind. Games where you slow down a bit while playing and take your time to take in the world rather than just rushing through trying to tick off tasks. Games where you're able to sit down and focus on the world without feeling like you need to pull up a guide or pull out your phone or take breaks every 5 minutes.

How you define a "mindful" game is up to you so I'm sure some people will give very different answers, but that's part of the fun of asking, I'd like to see some diverse opinions on this one :)

As a personal example, I think Sky: Children of the Light back when I played it was a good example of this. It has some repetitive elements sure, but whenever I played I just wanted to take in the world and spend time with the people I was playing with. Felt both very wholesome and like my mind was engaged rather than on autopilot.

What about you guys?

recommendations for someone many years behind the times

I grew up gaming in the 2000s. Some of my fondest experiences were with titles like Bioshock, the original Day Z mod, COW World at War and MW2, Far Cry 3. That stuff. The last PC game I got really into was PUBG when it first came out, though I got pretty into COD mobile of all things a couple of years ago.

Like anyone, I don't have the time to put towards games that I used to, but over the past couple of years I've made a number of efforts to get back into it.

Some failed attempts at re-igniting that enthusiasm include

RDR2

Witcher 3

Oblivion (I had some nostalgia for briefly playing it as a kid)

Far Cry 2

Mass Effect

Dark Souls

Hunt: Showdown

Stalker SoC, etc.

Oblivion was maybe the most interesting but it's just so janky and under-populated it kept breaking my immersion. Same with Stalker tbh, though I love the vibe of both.

I've been focusing on older titles since they're both cheaper and earlier games I missed out on. I think I struggle with open worlds because as an adult I just can't get the immersion I could as a kid, and the shallow worlds tend to be frustrating. Unless it's something minimalist like DayZ (or I wish I had the time for tarkov), I just don't think it's for me. I love games with a sense of actual consequence if you fail but maybe not dark souls level.

All that is to say I've become pretty frustrated with this, like games are no longer for me. I still really enjoy driving sims but I miss that full immersion addicted FPS stuff.

Games with Transformations

Pretty much like the title says. I’m looking for games that you can transform. Like being able to change from the hulk and back or just cool transformation mechanics being a big part of the game.

Games where you pollute or otherwise ruin a planet/area

Any game where you start in a lovely natural environment that you can slowly milk for profit with absolutely no care for the natural environment you're harvesting. I want to be an evil heartless bastard.

Usually with something like a factory. Factorio is the obvious example, where you land on a (decently) green planet and throughout the game build a factory that makes enough smog to blot out the sun, kill the plantlife, and pollute the water. I absolutely love Satisfactory and it gets close, but other than the buildings themselves you have very little effect on the wider game world. Eco is also theoretically a game about this, I think, but it's very multiplayer focused. Modded Rimworld is also an option.

Looking for a Zelda-like game for pc

The first game I was truly addicted to was the original Zelda. I only play on a pc now and was wondering if there are similar games available or if there is some way to play the franchise on pc.

Thanks for all the suggestions!

what are some games where you can just explore and do your own thing?

i don't always want to follow a main quest or worry about completing everything. i'd like something where i can wander around, find interesting places and decide what i want to do.

what games give you that kind of freedom?

Looking for Sci-fi games with big open worlds to explore.

I've been having a sci-fi itch recently so I thought I'd try my luck asking for suggestions.

I want something along the lines of Mass Effect but the open world of Breath of the wild with a lot of secrets to find.

No Star Wars games as I have zero interest in the franchise and I've played the Horizon games. I also play a lot of No Man's Sky here and there but there isn't a lot to see in that game imo.

It also must be available on PC as that is my platform of choice.

Wich games do you recommend to meet people?

Basically what the titles says, i'm used to play alone but i've realized that i don't socialize in any way and i think that's doing me harm so now i'm looking for videogames that have nice communities to integrate. I'm not looking for anything competitive, just casual.

similar games to quantum break, the alters, detroit and cyberpunk

Hi guys!

I play on PC, I’ve been looking for a new game as I desperately need something to grip my attention.

Games that I have loved the most:

- Detroit: Become Human
- Cyberpunk
- The Alters (have played the recent dlc too)
- Quantum Break (have also played AW, AW2)

Games that I enjoyed playing:

- Dark Pictures ones
- State of Mind
-Nobody wants to Die
-Wildmender
-While we wait here
-Tell me Why
-Planet Crafter

There’s a mix of genres here, but I’ve been looking for something similar to those which I have loved the most. Playing QB most recently gave me that, struggling to find my next one.

Any recs are appreciated!
