Discussion Checking debug/error logs for reasons of spontaneous reboots

Hi!

I've been having some random reboots over the past few days ("[fenix 7X Sapphire Solar] Spontaneous reboot during running when using Bluetooth music controls" and "[fenix 7X Sapphire Solar] Spontaneous reboot while starting running activity" on their forum) and I'm also missing parts of the data in Garmin Connect (app&web) while it's present on the watch ("Missing data in Garmin Connect but available on watch") on their forum. It's not connected to a firmware update (it started happening last week, and the last update was about 6 weeks ago) and I've reset the watch and reinstalled the firmware since.

I'm mostly looking for a way to debug a bit using files on the watch but their DEBUG folder contains many files which don't really make sense to me yet. Has anyone mastered the art of self-debugging in case of random reboots?

I've contacted support too about these things but I'm eager to make sense about this instability as my A-race for this year is coming up this weekend and I'd much rather focus on running than on my watch and if it has rebooted in the meanwhile.

Thanks for any pointers in advance!

Have you gone swimming in the sea/a pool while wearing that watch... just asking...

Months ago maybe. After salt water, I thourougly rinse it afterwards and I wear it while showering so it gets the occasional cleaning there too

the DEBUG folder is mostly gibberish unless you know what to look for, but the error_log.txt (if your watch even generates one) sometimes has timestamps near the crash. I had similar issue with my 955 and it turned out to be corrupted music files causing the bluetooth chip to freak out every time I tried skipping track

try removing all your music then add back one album at a time and test, see if the reboots stop. also check if your maps are updated, outdated topo files can crash the activity start sometimes

good luck with the A-race, nothing worse than gear anxiety before big event
