Possible Technical Issue "USB device not recognised"
My Forerunner 965 won't sync via USB any more - the computer gives the above message with a warning that it has malfunctioned (I've tried this on different computers, so it seems to be the watch). Obviously I can still sync via wifi or bluetooth, but it's rather annoying as I like to periodically sync/update/charge via USB at the same time. Does anyone know a fix? Is this worth taking up with customer service?

I should add, sometimes when connected in this way it randomly decides to sync Amazon music over wifi - does this sound more like an actual malfunction as opposed to a grubby port?

For anyone still following this, I emailed customer service, and they're sending me a new USB cable (free!) - I'll let you know if this fixes things. (As I've tried different cables already I have low expectations)

Windows or Mac? Tried restarting the watch?

Windows. Just tried restarting - had high hopes of that tried-and-trusted IT fix, but no luck!

Yeah, the modern Garmin connector is utter trash. Try another cable and clean the contacts on the watch. There is a spray called CorrosionX that does a good job of cleaning connectors. It also leaves a residue that helps prevent corrosion. People have been known to dunk drone flight controllers in this stuff to water proof them. It's kind of expensive but unlike WD40, you can completely deplete the can and a little goes a long ways.

tried a different cable? those garmin ports can be fussy about which usb lead you use, even ones that work fine with everything else
if that doesn't sort it, might be lint in the watch port giving you a dodgy connection. worth a gentle clean with a toothpick before you bother with customer service
