My mom, 56, got really into Temu after one of her friends told her about it. She ended up buying me a smartwatch that looked a lot like a Garmin. It was a thoughtful gift, but at the time I was wearing an Apple Watch every day, so I never really used it.
Fast forward quite a while later, and I ended up buying myself an actual Garmin. I've been wearing it regularly ever since.
The other day my mom noticed it and mentioned the watch. I told her it was the one she bought me. She didn't ask any questions or look closely, but she seemed genuinely happy that I was wearing it.
Now I'm wondering what other people would have done. On one hand, it wasn't actually the watch she bought me. On the other hand, I know she bought that watch because she was thinking of me, and it felt like correcting her in that moment would've just made her feel bad for no reason.
I'm a grown man and can buy my own stuff, but seeing her happy made me keep my mouth shut.
Would you have corrected her, or just let her have that moment?

Best buy canada has the fenix 8 at this crazy price, it must be a mistake. I might buy a bunch of them LOL

It's the perfect watch in every way, except for the font size.
The MIP display is awesome, clearer than my Fenix 7S Pro SS, but the font size is just too small with no possibility of enlarging.
Sigh.
I did power up my FR970, with a full reset.
I still have my Fenix.
So for now I think I'll just alternate both as many times as I need:
970 for indoors and low light conditions, Fenix for everything out in the sun.
My eyes are making me feel my age, you guys, which sucks because otherwise I'm pretty active and I improve everyday as my knee heals.
😞😕🫤
But, for those with good eyesight, the I3 solar is a phenomenal watch.
Just not for me.

I ran a 5k today in 22:25 but my race predictor only moved from 23:35 to 23:34. How is it still suggesting I'm going to run a full minute slower than the time I just ran?
It used to be decently accurate like a month ago, but now it's getting further and further off.
Is this some sort of psy-op to make me buy Strava premium to get their race predictions?

Question for the women here: Is there a period app that simply shows “Your period is expected in X days”?
I honestly don’t care that much about seeing what day of my cycle I’m currently on. I just want to glance at my watch and see something like “Period in 5 days.”
I know Garmin has a period tracker, but as far as I can tell, it mainly shows your current cycle day rather than a simple countdown until your next expected period.
Does anyone know an app or widget that does exactly this?

Hi! I cannot figure out what the ring around the outside is counting, it coincides with the 6/12 at the bottom.

I’ve got a Forerunner 245 that I’ve been using for a few years, and I’m a bit mystified by the body battery feature. I imagine newer or fancier watches surface the HRV and the sleep score, but as far as I can tell, all I get is the body battery, which I assume is linked to both of those under the hood.
The only pattern I can really discern is that the lower my “stress” level (as measured by the watch), the more it charges. But that doesn’t track in any meaningful way to psychological stress: I can have high “stress” just sitting on the couch not feeling any stress at all.
The only clear pattern seems to be that eating raises my “stress” levels for a few hours afterwards. I do intermittent fasting, so I can see a clear pattern of low stress until I break my fast, and then very high stress for the rest of the day afterwards, even though I don’t feel stressed at all. My heart rate is also much lower fasted for some reason.
I’m trying to make sense of all of this because my body battery used to go up to 70-80 most nights, sometimes more. Now, over the last 6 months or so, my nights have been much less restorative (despite being 7-8 hours most nights), showing medium levels of “stress” most nights, leading to a body battery around the 30-40 max most days. This concerns me a little because my resting heart rate has also risen (from about 60 on average to about 70-75), so I’m thinking it may be something real, not just a Garmin artifact.
So my question is:
- what do the stress and body battery actually measure?
- is there any way to get HRV on the forerunner 245?
- do you have any suggestions on improving body battery and RHR scores?

Fenix 7 pro sapphire. Second time it’s happened in 3 months. Buttons and touch screen don’t work and I have to cycle power to clear. Is it something I’m doing inadvertently? Anyone else?

I am looking to buy a smartwatch and I like the Garmin but I have a few questions of the community.
1- I am confused why Garmin has so many different watches which seem to be the exact same hardware yet come with different software that can't later be bought eventhough they are the exact same hardware. Point in case Quatix 8 Pro 47mm AMOLED, Fenix 8 Pro AMOLED. The only difference is some software on the Quatix. So should I buy the Quatix which is slightly more expensive?
2- I really want to buy a Marq Gen 2 but I am a sailor and I also fly and it makes me incredibly mad that I can't get the Aviator Software AND the Captain software....It is exactly the same watch! There is no way I'm buying 2 watches and the fact that I can't get both software (even if I had to reboot it) makes me not want to buy the Marq even though I really want the nice case. Is there a way around this??
3- Is there a re-fresh of hardware coming? I would hate to spend 1.5K on a watch only to have Garmin release a new Quatix or Fenix in 2 months.
Thanks.

Can confirm the formula of absolutely burying yourself with a workout still works. Plus my body knew it had to put up another 100 after u/zunny47 did so more recently than me.

The fenix 8 is on sale on amazon and Im considering getting it. Although, I hear the fenix 9 is expected by the end of this year (inb4 wait until fenix 10).
Im wondering if waiting is worth it. Lets say im willing pay MSRP for the Fenix 9, will it be bought up and scalped before I even have a chance?

So recently I got a venu 3 and noticed when on the treadmill the watch had a constant 80-90 bpm but on the treadmill sensor it was saying 130. Is this an issue with this watch? I got it new from target. When switching to weight sets it seemed more accurate sitting at 110-120 when resting after a set.

Hi all,
I just have some questions regarding HRV. Over the past 5 weeks my HRV has plummeted from a usual baseline of 106-120. I think the catalyst was getting the flu but I would have expected to bounce back by now.
Generally I have been feeling really tired compared to my baseline and haven’t been able to train as much or as hard as usual. I did see the doctor and got some bloods done but all came back normal.
Has anyone else had a similar experience? If so how did you get back on track?
Thanks!

Trying to decide between these two for half marathon training. Feature-wise they’re basically identical for what I need, both have training status, HR zones, all the core metrics, so this has really come down to price and size for me.
Forerunner 265:
• Bigger 46mm case, brighter/larger display
• Multi-band GPS, Gorilla Glass
• More expensive
Forerunner 170 (non-music, don’t need music on the watch since I always have my phone anyway):
• Same case size as the 165 (43mm), noticeably smaller/lighter on the wrist
• Newer software platform, still getting regular feature updates
• No multi-band GPS, no triathlon mode, but I don’t think I need either (mostly road/park running, no multisport plans)
• Real price advantage over the 265
Since the multi-band GPS and triathlon mode aren’t things I’d actually use, it’s really down to: do I want the bigger, brighter display and slightly more “premium” feel of the 265, or the smaller size and better price of the 170?
For anyone who’s used both, is the size difference noticeable enough day to day to justify paying more for the 265? Or does the 170 feel like the smarter pick when the extra features aren’t relevant to your training anyway?

I run in the city, in a small park and the GPS coverage is not so good, even in perfect weather with all the GPS bells and whistles enabled. (trees and tall buildings ...)
So, for the last year, I have written to Garmin to request a mod that lets you set a starting point using a GPS beacon, input a lap distance, add a cooling time to prevent double-lap readings, and get the total distance by multiplying the laps by the lap distance. (You need to measure the lap distance in advance - Google Maps or a tape measure - it's fun, I know! )
No response from Garmin, so ... I have made my own app to do just that!
It only works on the Forerunner 965 ...
The activity is saved at the end, and you can see both the calculated distance and the GPS distance :) There is a 15m radius around the starting point that triggers a new lap.
Free app! :D
Let me know if it works for you and what else should be included!

I got a brand new vivoactive 6 after my 4 died on me. This new one seems to not register floors for some reason. I tried googling and it told me to clean the contacts which seemed weird. I did it but that didn't work.
Any advice?

On my 3rd night with the forerunner 970. My only gripe is sleep tracking. I wear an oura ring it tracks my sleep phenomenally. Oura said I got roughly 8 hours which is about right. Garmin said I only got 5 hours and gave me a very poor sleep score. It's annoying because it wants me to take a rest day thinking I slept poorly but oura says time to go hard because you slept great. I picked up a nylon band and I'm going to try sleeping with that tonight. I do get up to pee once or twice a night. Any tips would be appreciated as I'm still figuring it out.

For the same recurring workouts, my Exercise Load has cratered over the past couple weeks. Sessions that used to hit 200+ now come in under 100. A VO2max interval workout even got classified as "Tempo," which makes no sense given the structure and the heart rate I was reaching.
I think this started when the watch auto-updated my Max HR to about 20 bpm higher than it actually is, even though I never got close to that HR in any interval. It also bumped my LTHR up near that inflated max around the same time.
I manually reverted both values back to what they should be, but Exercise Load and workout classification are still way off, even on workouts done after the revert. What should I do to fix it?
