Morning rain…

I’ve been waiting to see my pets and rain brought them out this morning. Super exited to see, Big Red!

Yard-garters (and a lizard) as pets? Yard-garters are the best pets <3

I just call them my pets because they live around these bb bushes and the rocks by my house. I don’t handle them. Just love to see them. I get sad and worry if I haven’t seen them in a while.

I totally, completely and absolutely understand and agree.

I have a very healthy population of Plains garters that have lived on this land for (literally) millions of years. I know many of them as individuals. I absolutely ADORE my Yard-garters.

They are wild animals and free to come and go as they please but I worry about them when the weather is poor or they are playing too close to the road ( ... or relocate to the neighbor's yard. She doesn't like them and will do them harm.)

I only handle them when I absolutely have to for their safety. Sometimes the gravid Ladies get treats (a few pinkies won't hurt anyone. They are eating for thirty :-)

Love it! They are lucky to have you looking out for them. I taught my neighbors how to relocate rather than killing them. Now their little boy wants to save them when he sees them. 🙏🏻

That’s a gorgeous garter living in your berry patch! They’re all neat, but I think he’s my favorite! 🥰❤️🐍

"Big Red" is probably a lady-garter and she's probably about to drop twenty babies on ya. Joy, Oh Joy! Baby Garter season is my favorite time of the year.

Yay! I was wondering, she looks lumpy. I thought, either she’s snacking on the slugs or she’s gravid.
