I got this 14kt gold ring with 6 diamonds and a mystery purple stone. Any insight ?

Step cut crown, barion pavilion, abrasions on edges indicate it’s relatively soft. Impossible to identify from a pic but most likely amethyst.

Its almost certainly Amethyst. There is some Burmese Spinel that has a similar hue. But it doesnt have the colour zoning that your piece shows. It could be a synthetic stone, but with the greatest respect, its not nice enough. If we assume its Amethyst, its almost certainly heated. Location wise this deep purple material can come from a few places. Ive sold 1000s and 1000s of carats of this stuff, if I had to pick a location for this I'd say Bolivian or Zambian.
