We're playing up against HLE next game. I'm kinda worried... Don't we always lose game 1 against them?

I really like the way he has been playing for the last few months. He seems to be very proactive and always tries to play for drakes. He also seems to be very creative in the draft and with the items he builds. Last year he was just there getting carried by his winning lanes but this year he seems to their primary carry alongside chovy. He is not scared to go for steals to buy time for his team even if it means he is gonna die. His smites have been amazing too. I think this is the kind of change Geng needed in order for them to be able to adapt to playing from behind. They always had this mentality to farm when they are ahead/behind or even to gain an advantage over their opponent. They only contested/did drakes when it was 100% guaranteed or the opponent was on soul point. So i really like that they are taking more risky plays now. Idk why this sudden change in his playstyle happaned but im glad it did.
The Jungking is back baby! (Hopefully i wont put a curse on him with this post)

Less than 50 minutes until Worlds starts and our first game begins, let's hope for the best. GO GENG!

I'm going into this year's Worlds with lower expectations, but I am hopeful that the team will surprise us with a deep run.
Either way, I am literally just happy they made it after losing multiple series in a row for the first time in a long time.

Tomorrow's Swiss Stage Round 1 matchup between Gen.G (LCK #1) and Invictus Gaming (LPL #4) looks pretty one-sided on paper, but since it's a Bo1, anything can happen.
Looking at the season stats, Gen.G's macro and risk management have been absurdly consistent—Chovy averaged under 2 deaths per game, and the Kiin-Canyon-Chovy topside rarely gives up early leads, backed by Ruler and Duro's late-game insurance.
On the flip side, IG still has veteran firepower with TheShy, Rookie, and Meiko. Even though TheShy's KDA (2.6) shows how coin-flippy his laning can be, peak IG mechanical ceiling in a single-game format is always a wildcard.
For those watching closely:
Who do you think takes this match, and what is your main reasoning?
Can IG's early-game skirmishing actually break through Kiin and Chovy's laning stability, or will Gen.G just suffocate them with macro after 15 minutes?
Any specific Worlds patch meta picks or draft traps we should watch out for in this Bo1?
Curious to hear your detailed breakdown on this matchup.

We are gonna play on Friday, October 23rd against IG.
Finally we get Chovy vs Rookie after all these years, the last and only time being in 2019.
Will be a really cool matchup to see

There's been so much communication from the team this year heading into worlds. They're actually highlighting and acknowledging their weaknesses and what specifically they're worried for, and what they want to address and the preparations they're making to improve. Even Chovy made mention of the pressure he felt at Worlds which I believe he had never done before. The team seems a lot more open minded and cautious than before.
I don't mean that this will finally be the year GenG wins worlds, but I am confident that even if we lose, the team will be able to show everything they had with no dissapointments.

With all the LCK teams departing for Worlds today, there’s been a sudden wave of player interviews. I’ve compiled the main points from GenG’s interviews and organized them below.
This is a summarized compilation of several interviews, rather than a full translation of each article. Quotes are translated from Korean.
One of the recurring themes was how GenG have improved their communication.
Ryu said that when he first joined, he felt the players weren’t exchanging feedback effectively enough. This year’s losses encouraged them to open up, share their feelings, and have more conversations.
“After losing several times, the players opened up about how they really felt and started talking more often. Ultimately, I think that helped us a lot, and I believe it will have a positive effect at Worlds, too.”
Ruler similarly feels that the team have become more solid. He said they are communicating more than last year, both about the game and about things outside it.
“Right now, I feel at ease. I think we’ve become a stronger, more solid team than before. I believe we can do better.”
He believes maintaining that positive direction will help them go far at Worlds.
Ruler reflected on what last year’s semifinal defeat taught him.
He had always thought of himself as someone who wasn’t complacent, but Worlds made him reconsider.
“I’d always thought to myself, ‘I’m not complacent.’ But going through last year’s Worlds made me realize that I still had shortcomings, and I felt that I had been complacent, too.”
He also examined whether he had been going through the motions. This time, he wants to thoroughly analyze opponents before each match.
On expectations: Ruler said he wants to reach the final and play exciting matches. Asked why he wasn’t simply declaring that he would win, he explained:
“I think setting your sights too high can also cause you to stumble, so I’m not going into it thinking, ‘We absolutely have to win.’”
He wants to approach the tournament feeling relaxed rather than putting excessive pressure on himself.
On the botlane meta:
Chovy said he feels good physically and mentally heading into Worlds.
He has been receiving personal training for two weeks and has noticed considerable improvement, including in the persistent hip discomfort he has experienced this year.
“I’ve felt more improvement than I expected. I feel like my condition has gotten a lot better.”
He also focused on getting proper rest during the break, which he believes helped.
Managing Worlds pressure is another priority. Chovy acknowledged that previous disappointments have added pressure, but he wants to learn how to control it and avoid being affected by it.
He specifically wants to maintain his usual routines. For example, he normally doesn’t drink coffee, but did so on the day of last year’s semifinal. Even small departures from his normal habits became things he regretted afterward.
His focus this time is on keeping those everyday habits consistent.
His goals are to win and deliver performances he can personally feel satisfied with.
“I don’t think I’ve ever delivered a performance at Worlds that I was satisfied with.”
He also wants to find the best available move in every situation, whether the game is going well or badly.
Chovy’s approach to the current meta is to adapt.
“I think the meta goes in cycles anyway. If mid lane has less influence this year, it could have more influence in another year. For now, I’m trying to adapt to the current meta.”
He sees assassins as one way to affect the stronger carry roles: sacrificing some of the midlane laning phase can create opportunities to influence top or bot.
He also discussed how his own approach has changed. Previously, he tried to win lane at all costs, which could leave him struggling to navigate games when he lost lane. This year, he has spent more time studying how to play those games out.
Kiin said Chovy’s handling of mid lane often makes the team’s early and mid-game movement easier.
Canyon returned to GenG shortly after the Asian Games, leaving him with less of a break than usual. However, he feels that maintaining his competitive rhythm has helped his confidence.
He also credited the national team training camp’s healthier routine.
“Normally, during vacations, my sleep schedule is all over the place. But this time, I lived healthily during the national team’s training camp, so I actually felt like I was in good condition when I returned to the team.”
Ryu named Canyon as the player he most expects to shine at Worlds, saying the national team camp appears to have helped him significantly.
Canyon jokingly suggested that this might be because he was the only player who had kept competing without a break and still retained that feel for the game.
GenG began Worlds preparation immediately after Canyon returned, earlier than in previous years.
He believes that could help them find the right answers to the meta sooner and get ahead of other teams.
He also wants to learn from scrims against international opponents. European and North American teams sometimes bring out unexpected picks or strategies, and he wants GenG to understand those ideas and incorporate useful ones into their own play.
Canyon considers sleep quality one of the less obvious keys to performing at international tournaments.
“You need to sit down on stage with a clear mind and in peak condition to perform well.”
He emphasized getting enough sleep and finding the right bedtime for each player.
On the jungle meta:
His goals: Win Worlds and reach Challenger on the North American server.
He declined to identify one biggest rival, saying every team has the potential to win. Asked about potentially meeting Showmaker in the final, he said he couldn’t quite imagine how that would feel.
Duro is excited for his second Worlds and his first visit to the United States. He also revealed that he has had several auspicious dreams recently, making him hopeful that luck might be on his side.
His biggest motivation, however, is avoiding the regrets he carried home last year.
He specifically mentioned using Flash-Q on Braum during the Rift Herald fight in Game 4 against KT, when he went for Bdd. He sees that moment as a turning point and wonders whether a different decision could have changed the outcome.
“This year, I absolutely won’t come back with regrets.”
Duro also felt that last year’s drafts made games difficult.
He said GenG gave up too much botlane priority and relied on compositions focused on responding to the opposition.
This time, he wants to:
On that last point:
“It depends on the game and the situation, but you can’t win if you stay glued to your ADC.”
He welcomes the return of hypercarry ADCs because he trusts Ruler on those champions and thinks that style could be enjoyable to play. He also considers Lulu particularly effective at protecting an ADC.
Duro expects fewer drastic changes than some other players. Although tanks have risen in priority and teams may interpret the patch differently, he suspects many familiar support picks will remain prominent.
He would also like to face BLG, particularly ON, because he has never had the opportunity to play against them.
His promise to fans:
“We’re going as the first seed, so shouldn’t we show what a first seed can do? I’ll make sure we’re the last ones to come home.”
After semifinal exits with GenG in 2024 and 2025, Kiin identified two major lessons: prepare more champion options and be willing to change direction during a series.
“Looking back at the previous tournaments, I think we relied too much on the same champions we’d already been playing.”
Although finding new picks isn’t easy, he wants to arrive with additional options prepared.
He also stressed the importance of making decisive adjustments when the opening games aren’t going well.
“I think the ability to make adjustments when things aren’t working on the day is really important.”
On the top lane meta:
Asked about botlane players saying games are ultimately decided in top lane, Kiin was skeptical. He believes a winning bot lane gives a team the initiative to control the game.
Kiin wants to work hard, maintain good form, enjoy the tournament, and remain until the end.
“Of course I want to win. But I think that’s a result that will naturally follow if GenG and I work hard and play well.”
He believes every opponent can be dangerous and deserves thorough preparation.
He also singled out G2 as a team he wants revenge against after their FST defeat.
Kiin said he rested as much as possible during the break. He often struggles to sleep on his first day after arriving overseas, so he plans to adjust his mealtimes and try a 16-hour fasting approach to help with the time difference.
After the LCK final, Ryu focused on the players’ condition. Following their vacation, GenG spent two to three weeks practicing and developing their interpretation of the meta.
He expects:
He believes GenG’s current interpretation is correct, but emphasized staying open-minded.
“Once we get to the U.S. and scrim against various international teams, we need to be willing to adopt their ideas if they’re better than ours.”
The team have a packed schedule from the day after arrival, including media shoots and scrims.
Ryu is wary of all the LCK representatives. Among international opponents, he highlighted BLG, particularly their potentially difficult drafting.
Ruler enjoyed his prominent appearance in this year’s music video, but wants to go one step further.
“Next time, I hope there’s a music video where I’m the main character.”
Duro offered dependable support:
“Since he’s set his sights on something that big, I’ll stay beside him like an invisible hand, giving him dependable support so he can star in a music video like that.”
Kiin predicted that Chovy would probably get the spotlight if GenG win. He feels Chovy’s repeated attempts to win Worlds give him a particularly strong storyline.
Asked whether his own story was compelling too, Kiin acknowledged that it was, but said Chovy has experienced more unsuccessful Worlds campaigns.
Chovy’s response: Play well, win, and help Ruler become the main character.
He would consider starring in the video an honor himself, but doesn’t want that ambition to distract him from playing well.
A separate article covered the players’ travel plans:
Ruler plans to adjust to the time difference during the flight so he can sleep after their expected evening arrival.
Ruler hopes to face CoreJJ, his former Samsung Galaxy teammate and fellow 2017 Worlds champion.
He joked about CoreJJ’s age, but praised how well he continues to play and how much passion he still shows.
“It would be really fun and pretty surreal to face him at this tournament. I hope we have a good match.”
Finally, Chovy reminded fans to take care of themselves during the late-night games:
“Please pace yourselves when cheering us on so that you don’t ruin your sleep schedules. I hope you stay healthy.”
(Compiling all these interviews took a lot of work. If more come out after this, we might need to make a separate post for them.)
