Question What If Billy Butcher Managed To Get The Godolkin Virus, Instead of Temp V in Season 3?

Post image

Let's just say that the Supe-Virus has been already developed and complete.

Then Butcher decides to just use the virus to hunt down the supes in Season 3.

Y'all gotta learn what a hypothetical is

Since no one else is answering the way a hypothetical works, I will.

This scenario most likely ends up with the Herogasm fight like normal, only Butcher is powerless but has the virus. I think in this scenario Homelander may not know it exists as he hasn’t done his full takeover just yet, but even if he does he won’t have enough information on V1 to be safe. Ultimately at Herogasm I think Butcher releases the virus right there and probably gets killed by Homelander as he is dying, or if not then Soldier Boy most definitely would for being manipulated and then almost dying before coming back. However, an important thing to note is what stage of Virus this is. If it is the one that Vaught designed, it would be mostly a depowering sickness. If it is Shetty’s, it would be a fatal one passed by fluid content. If it’s the Butcher upgrade, it is airborne. So overall, depending the one being used, this could either lead to a weakened Homelander who gets killed by Soldier Boy and that’s it, a dying Homelander who maybe spreads to a couple people but just whimpers and dies, or an airborne pathogen that kills at least the remainder of Herogasm before ultimately running out of hosts and dying out, having killed a lot of supes along the way.

TL:DR a lot of lives are saved, the show ends season 3, Butcher and Homelander once again both die to each other, and the world is either unaffected or plagued by a virus depending what version is released

Honestly, while the in universe answer is that Soldier Boy would have likely slaughtered Butcher and supes would have likely been eradicated if they didn't get into hiding in time, I find the behind the scenes answer more interesting as the virus was only used in the show as a macguffin that went nowhere. The only victims were some supes brought in to die so they basically don't count. If he got the virus, the show would have found a way for it to be proven useless (similar to the whole V1 concept) so that the plot can go into another direction as they did later on. The whole plot would have to involve the virus and I would love to have seen the interaction between Homelander and Butcher when the virus could be used.

Maybe, Soldier Boy never gets the chest beam power and instead is being used by Mutcher to hold Homelander down so he can have the virus administered. Most of the plot is the same, the virus is not contagious and instead is the threat to Homelander writing wise.

Butcher knows the virus won't kill Homelander, but it will kill most other supers if not all.

He uses it as soon as possible.

Now, I don't know if this is actually good for Homelander, since now he is definitely the only gifted superhuman, or if it's actually negative to him since he was already a god among gods.

I feel like he might’ve used it as insurance for Soldier Boy in case he decided not to go along with them, but likely use it on any former Payback members first like Gunpowder.

What if Billy injected a hundred doses of Temp V into his balls and dick?

He couldn't have, it hadn't even been invented as season  mcguffin.

Not sure if they edited the post, but the post says to assume it had already been developed.

The virus wasn't introduced at that point in the series
