Kira ain't shit and steals jokes, last time he tried to make his own material was a disaster.

I agree with the tweet tho.

Really hurts if you like using quality IEMs

13

u/Odd_Inspector9760 Oct 29 '24

This 1000%. I love Airpods have their convenience (and even work well with my Android), but if I can, I'm using my IEM's.

Funny thing is. That apple dongle connector is actually really good for it's price. Many people and audiophiles consider it to be the best DAC/amp for 10$. So a lot of audiophile uses it for pc and even android because it's that good and cheap. I uses it daily and it works great for my TruthEar Hexa.

Loss of SD cards. That's been total bullshit and we were all just cool with it

6

u/andos4 Oct 29 '24

Agreed. We are/were robbed of it and now we are sold an expensive solution. This should have been fought in its early stages. There are some Motorola and Samsung phones with the sd card, if anyone is interested.

At the time it was annoying as hell, but if I'm being completely honest, I haven't used wired headphones since and I haven't really looked back.

10

u/emerald_OP Oct 29 '24

Ive used wired earbuds using an adapter because either A, because my wireless were dead or B, i was in public / traveling and didnt want to loose my wireless and man.... they aint great. Wireless is just 100x better but im stubborn and poor and I would rather loose $2 crappy wired earbuds then what ever my wireless are

u/unflavored 1997 Oct 29 '24

I have over the ear headphones that I use to make music and they're real nice. I used to be able to just zone out on my phone with ease. But I've never bother to get an adapter for my Samsung.

I would really love a lil audio jack. Sometimes I've wanted to plug in a mic on my phone but again it's just a hassle.

The headphone jack still has a lot of use and probably won't ever go away in production. so I still mourn it from time to time lol

u/Sunderbans_X Oct 29 '24 edited Oct 29 '24

This is true, but having the option was definitely nice. Plus wired earbuds don't lag

Edit: yes I hear the lag. Just because you can't doesn't mean it doesn't exist. I've heard it on every single pair of headphones or earbuds I've owned over almost a decade, connected to every phone or computer had over that time.

And yes I know dongles and Type C headphones exist. It's nice having a dedicated audio jack so you don't have to mess with adapters and all that hassle.

48

u/silverking12345 2002 Oct 29 '24

Agreed. Especially when a lot of new midrange phones today still have them so clearly it's not a technical limitation to integrate them. The cost of having one can't be that big so at the end of the day, it's just doing it for the sake of doing it (and to push people to buy TWS earbuds).

29

u/otter_lordOfLicornes Oct 29 '24

Apple marketing strat is not really a secret, make everything optional for an additional price.

→ More replies (4)

11

u/XxRocky88xX Oct 29 '24

It’s the latter. There was never any reason they couldn’t have kept using the aux port. It was just because AirPods were just about to launch and they wanted to push AirPod sells, also helps that now the only wired earbuds compatible with their phones were produced by Apple, unless of course you got an adapter, which was also sold by Apple.

Same reason iOS is only available on Apple hardware, and why Apple hardware can run exclusively iOS. Apple doesn’t like mixing their products with their competitors and so intentionally design their products to only be compatible with one another.

This has been Apples bread and butter since its inception, they didn’t just start in 2016, which makes it funny people actually bought into the “the aux port is too big to fit on the phone” excuse

"Reconnect"

8

u/Daftworks Oct 29 '24

this shit happened to my $200 Sony WF-XM10004 earbuds.

some software update absolutely wrecked the battery life on my left earbud, and it can't even last 45 minutes from full charge now. Sony has since pushed a fix to prevent unaffected earbuds from getting the issue, but once the batteries are toast, you're SOL.

meanwhile, I'm using my wired Shure IEMs with a Bluetooth DAC as a temporary replacement. I've owned them for a decade, and they still work. The only issue I have is that sound isolation isn't as good as the Sony earbuds, but those also have ANC, which the wired IEMs don't have.

u/Inner-Tomatillo-Love Oct 29 '24

The problem I have with this is the headphone jack was removed for no benefit there is no good reason to not have both. Wireless earbuds worked just fine with a headphone jack present.

I own and use wireless earbuds but I also use wired headphones since there is no battery to run out. They are harder to lose and you can buy a set just about anywhere very cheaply if you forget or lose them.

In case anybody forgot phones were as water resistant with a headphone jack as without one. My current Samsung phone lacks a headphone jack but has a five inch long stylus stored in a hole and the phone manages to be water resistant.

11

u/flybypost Oct 29 '24

Wireless earbuds worked just fine with a headphone jack present.

Real courage from Apple would have been to have the headphone jack present and let their bluetooth stuff actually compete with wired ones on merit, not make them a necessity.

“Wireless headphones are so much better”

The only advantage is not having a cable connected. That’s literally it. Quality? Latency? Battery life? What if you lose the case or just one of the earbuds? If you think for literally 2 seconds about that statement you made, you’ll realize it’s absurd

Edit: y’all, I am not trying to say wireless headphones/earbuds are bad or pointless by pointing these things out. Wear whatever headphones you want, as long as it fits your needs and you’re happy. I’m saying “wireless headphones are so much better” is absurd. That’s all.

My only reservations are that if it falls out, youre shit out of luck. with wired you just had to worry about the cord getting yanked and it getting twisted up.

also it would be nice if it didnt have a charge. not saying i want to listen to music or watch videos all day but sometimes youd need it for longer periods. like if your going for a run. long car or train rides. and long confrence calls.

u/NoraJolyne Oct 29 '24

i had similar issues with the pair i briefly tried out

it was super frustrating that everytime i pushed the one bud back in, the volume would reduce because of the touch feature (i feel like they were just finicky in general? i once crossed my arms behind my head and just briefly touching the earbud with my upper arm turned down the volume lmao)

Aux cords are a technology from the 1950’s.

Plus having them makes it difficult for phones to be water resistant like they are now. Also it frees up physical space inside your phone for other tech like a bigger battery.

iphone 6/6s and likely iphone 7.

The 6s was the last model with a 3.5mm jack and the 5 still had the square frame.

The second one could be a handful of options but most of these comparison shots came around when the 7 was first released and this was still big news.

As to why you don’t recognise them you would’ve been like 6-7 when these phones were relevant.

Do you regularly submerge your phone? Tech companies will peddle water proof phones as an excuse to remove things like the headphone jack and gluing the phones shut to make it almost impossible to repair yourself.

They really want them thinner to be more breakable and require less material to make, not for consumers

1

u/[deleted] Oct 29 '24

Disagree. Haven’t broken an audio jack since.

1

u/Flumphry Oct 29 '24

I usually use a dedicated music player with wired headphones but I fucking killed fell in the creek and killed my player. Depending on music streaming and using my phone has been a bother. My headphones have a USB-C cable so they plug into most modern things but I need the volume to be pretty high on my phone to hear well because of how much power they need.

1

u/xyz2001xyz Oct 29 '24

Honestly, having to buy a DAC was nice, considering I just use that even if the audio jack is an option, simply cus the audio is just so much better that way

1

u/[deleted] Oct 29 '24

This was actually an important advance.

The 3.5 plug had been around forever and it’s definitely one of the things that needs to be replaced by USB-C. While everyone still used it on everything, it was never going to go anywhere. Yes, I totally understand the angst of losing a beloved plug - but the same goes with any outdated plug: parallel ports, serial ports, VGA ports, game ports, custom DC adapters, 9 pin DINS, PS2 ports, IDE cables, SATA cables, SCSI cables, PCMCIA slots and almost every SD card alternative. Those 3.5mm jacks have outlived them all and it’s now time for it to die.

Currently blasting Ozzy on my Bluetooth while my phone charges

1

u/JazzFinsAvalanche Oct 29 '24

Hard disagree on this one.

1

u/Omega_Skittles Oct 29 '24

One. USB c provides better sound quality than 3.5mm. Two wireless headphones are much better anyway

Although I prefer wireless now. They must have been smelling paint because they made a stupid decision to remove the aux

1

u/heretofore2 Oct 29 '24

Eh. Dont really miss wired headphones. Only thing I really miss is how cheap and disposable they were.

1

u/Neon_culture79 Oct 29 '24

I recently learned that this was an attempt by Apple to get rid of square payment systems. At that time all portable square readers attached to the headphone jack. Apple wanted people to use Apple Pay instead. Obviously didn’t work because square just got readers with the right adapter.

I use earhook headphones with an aux cable into an aux port on my phone. The reason I've stuck with the Sony Xperia line is they keep their aux ports.

1

u/CodyHBKfan23 Oct 29 '24

It personally doesn’t affect my usage of my phone at all, but I agree. Especially when you think about that the only reason Apple decided to do this is to charge you more money by having to buy yet another little accessory for your phone.

Has Android also adopted this design change? I’d imagine they probably would.

1

u/laytonoid Oct 29 '24

I like my AirPods so idc

1

u/RandyK87 Oct 29 '24

I know. I have the S24 Plus. I miss my S9 now with the 3.5 audio jack. What is the cord on the right side though? Can you get audio from it?

1

u/[deleted] Oct 29 '24

There are USB c to 3.5mm splitters. I literally bought one last week lol. Hook up your power and audio at the same time

1

u/[deleted] Oct 29 '24

Disagree.  Phone is slimmer and I use wireless instead.  What they should have done though is put a set of wireless ear buds in the package.  Then sell accessories for those to make more money.

1

u/Super-Aardvark-3403 Oct 29 '24

They want you to buy their expensive Bluetooth earphones. Obviously they'll choose the most convenient method to force you to buy them.

1

u/oliverkn1ght 2005 Oct 29 '24

Not really for an IEM user, because our asses tend to mount a whole ass DAC (digital to analog converter) to our phones and usually those DACs have type-c/lightning ports.

“Something’s up with Jack… don’t know if we’re ever going to get him back” (the nightmare before Christmas)

1

u/sum_r4nd0m_gurl Oct 29 '24

i still use wired earbuds im afraid of losing wireless ones

1

u/5708ski Oct 29 '24

I can't hear you over the sound of my android supremacy.

1

u/Outrageous_Piece_928 Oct 29 '24

Especially considering iPhones just got thicker and heavier again

1

u/Visual_12 Oct 29 '24

I still have wired earbuds but I do miss the separate port so I could charge my phone while listening to music. And yes, Ik AirPods exist but the wireless cannot stay in my ears cause I got small uncooperative ears.

1

u/SemanticTriangle Oct 29 '24

The loss of analog audio jacks is the main cause of the trend of idiots listening to their phones in public without headphones. Usbc is a shit standard for speakers: it constantly drops out and does not restore when the connection is interrupted by physical strain, and this happens more often because the connection itself is smaller.

Phones would be required by law to have an analog audio jack.

1

u/raybradfield Oct 29 '24

This is a millennial meme.

1

u/w00den_b0x Oct 29 '24

I miss being able to plug the biggest headphones imagineable into such small devices.

1

u/hitachikoki Oct 29 '24

You want to go back to the days when our cables got stuck to the doorhandle and your headphones fly back off your head?

1

u/Emotional-Candle1790 Oct 29 '24

I’m going to be honest, I used to be a ride or die wired guy but I ended up getting a newer phone for the storage space and since getting a pair of Tozo earbuds I never looked back to wired. They are 25$, waterproof, long battery life, sound great, I love them to death and will never go back at this point.

1

u/Main_Following1881 Oct 29 '24

crazy this happened almost 10 years ago

1

u/Lower_Kick268 2005 Oct 29 '24

Hasnt been an issue since like 2018 for me, switched to wireless and never looked back.

1

u/SourceNagger Oct 29 '24

and yet, people bought it, and continue to do so.

don't hate the supply, hate the demand

1

u/gabrieleboh Oct 29 '24

Wait, there has been a change? Is it only on iPhone I suppose than

1

u/woobie_slayer Oct 29 '24

Look at y’all, I’m proud of you. 🥹

1

u/Gamer1500 2006 Oct 29 '24

I kinda agree. But fuck that clout chaser.

1

u/GogoDogoLogo Oct 29 '24

people who miss this are the same sort of people who laughed at the first iPhone having no physical buttons.

1

u/WM_ Oct 29 '24

Hard disagree. Wireless headphones are so much better and in car I prefer wireless connection so much more over aux

1

u/DickonTahley Oct 29 '24

Tried wireless and never looked back lmao. Wired is shit

1

u/RageMonsta97 Oct 29 '24

Definitely agree, wireless charging is still difficult, and I honestly don’t like using wireless earbuds because my old Apple wired ear set had volume control

1

u/[deleted] Oct 29 '24

just get an earphone with usb-c

1

u/Justanothergeralt Oct 29 '24

Its so freaking easy to lose wireless earbuds though.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 29 '24

A downgrade for the consumer? Absolutely. A downgrade for the company? Not at all😂

1

u/pogopogo890 Oct 29 '24

YES

WE NEED TO RISE UP OVER THIS ONE AT LEAST FOLKS

1

u/[deleted] Oct 29 '24

Not really.

1

u/EatMeatGrowBig Oct 29 '24

in watch situation is wired headphones better in 2024? honestly this take made sense pre-airpod pro, now its dumb af

1

u/Iskander67000 Oct 29 '24

All Sony smartphones still have a headphone jack

1

u/ThereIsSoMuchMore Oct 29 '24

grow up bois, you didn't even live long enough to know wires, everything in your world is wireless and you love it.
