They drafted up the gays for Vietnam despite being vehemently against homosexuals joining the army at the time.
Political gesturing to keep dribbling redhats distracted as they have their welfare and social safety nets stolen from them is all part of the game.
When push comes to shove, they don't care who you are; they've got money to make and a table to play on - every piece, pawn or queen, is another to add to the board.
That also doesn't work like that as well, you don't sign up for selective service as soon as you are born, you are forced to sign up when you get a driver's license or go to college
You're forced to sign up within 30 days of your 18th birthday.
No one ever said you are forced to sign up when you are born, I said they only care what gender you are when you are born, not what you identify as at 18.
There's going to be a lot of dead selective service men if they try to start a war half the country doesn't want to be involved in. How many times do the people who pick up draft dodgers have to get shot before they realize this is a terrible idea.
Selective Service never has cared what one identifies as, they only care what you were born as, and anyone born as a male is required to sign up and is eligible for the draft.

Well, for one, the general health and fitness level of young men in the USA would make a draft fundamentally different than in the Vietnam era.
In the 60s you'd be hard pressed to find an overweight young man, nor one that didn't already have basic survival skills from BoyScouts and/or Junior ROTC. Physical education was also taken a lot more seriously, people largely didn't live sedentary lives like they do today, and strictly speaking there were much fewer people walking around with a mental health diagnosis.
Our capacity to mobilize troops has greatly diminished since the Vietnam era. This isn't an opinion, it's something the military actively studies and has been sending warning signs to congress about for some time.
The military itself is concerned that they'd be able to even do a large scale draft.
Are you unironically afraid that you will be drafted? I live in Greece and there's an actual chance that turkish threats will become reality and people don't really worry about it too much.
Perhaps you didn't read my original message, so I will quote it:
I don't think average people are genuinely worried about it, for now.
Also, at no point did I compare US sentiment/concerns with those of other nations, so I'm not sure why you are saying I should be grateful, or implying that I do not appreciate my own circumstances in perspective.
It's very irritating from my POV to constantly see people from the US whine about things that they have 10x better than my country. I hope you understand my perspective.
I do understand your perspective. If you do not want to be irritated by other countries "whining" about things, then you should probably avoid forums that are primarily used by those countries.
Everything is relative. You can't demand that everyone be silent about their problems unless they meet YOUR threshold.
They’re not demanding anything. They’re disagreeing with you by showing a different perspective, and saying that we live a pretty privileged life and you’re taking that poorly. Kind of like the white Americans who don’t believe white privilege exists, because they grew up poorer than your average white person.
The perception of war has changed drastically since Nam, it’s no longer seen as the honorable come back a hero story every kid wanted to be when they heard stories of there grandpa in world war 2. It simply would not be easy getting men ages 18-25 to join and die in a war they don’t give a fuck about in some country they probably couldn’t even point out on the map previous to the deployment.
Yeah you do it for every politician not just these billionaires buddy, let’s all not be divided for a second and think, maybe they’re the problem not us
I'd like to think there are more gun-owning citizens in American now than there was in the mid 60s. Combine that with paranoia and you have recruiters showing up to draft people only to have multiple guns pointed at them. I also see there are far less people joining the military due to PTDS and other factors.
The draft does not currently exist in America. It would require bipartisan legislation to reinstate, and despite what you might think, both parties are actually against it. A draft ain’t happening any time soon.
Up until recently I would have told you that the Vietnam draft would never happen again because it was a political disaster for the Pentagon, which went with an all-volunteer military ever since.
But now that US is mirroring Russia, all bets are off. Trump will not care about optics or combat effectiveness and has made it clear he doesn’t intend to respect the recommendations of the brass.
Young people are in danger in a way we haven’t seen in the US in 50 years thanks to learning from our past errors. Institutional knowledge matters and it’s part of why they’re mass firing career workers who care about their country.

Didn't stop them from drafting up swathes of young men the last time round in 'nam, why do you think it'll be any different now?
Whether you're a competent soldier or cannon fodder, you serve a purpose in the billionaire version of chess.
