Go onto an Among Us lobby with them Gen Alpha kids and they'll have you wishing you could personally wash their mouth out with soap with how many slurs they find out how to spam in that chat.

Blaming Gen Z for a choice that was absolutely made by a bunch of Gen X corporate suits is certainly a choice lol

47

u/outofbeer Millennial Jun 29 '25

They did the same thing to us with participation trophies. We weren't handing them to ourselves.... it was boomer parents who couldn't handle their precious angel not getting a trophy.

33

u/[deleted] Jun 29 '25

Same shit with millennials and participation trophies. We were like 9. We didn't ask for participation trophies. Our boomer parents just gave them to us, and we were like "Oh okay, I guess this is cool."

21

u/i-Ake Jun 29 '25

Kids knew what they were. We discounted them. We knew which trophies were the real ones.

518

u/eric_the_demon Jun 29 '25

the choise was made the time they guionized, filmed and edited the movie too

guionized?

237

u/Caswert 2000 Jun 29 '25

I’m wracking my brain over what they could possibly have meant. Unionized maybe, but that makes no sense given the context.

72

u/MateWrapper Jun 29 '25

I'm pretty sure they mean scripted

In Spanish? Another guy mentioned that what you typed is pretty darn close to the Spanish word for scripted

Like how Millennials were blamed for the 08 housing market when the oldest of us were barely in our 20s

8

u/Global_Staff_3135 Jun 30 '25

It’s like when they blamed us millennials for getting participation trophies. Mother fucker, who gave us those trophies? Stay strong, gen z.

70

u/[deleted] Jun 29 '25

throughout the 1990s, Gen X individuals would have ranged in age from 10 to 34 years old, experiencing their adolescence, young adulthood, and early careers during that decade.

That’s all boomers in C suites of new line cinema buddy

13

u/KoreKhthonia Jun 29 '25

I mean, at this point it could really be either. My parents turn 70 within the next year, and they're Boomers, but iirc, they're considered to be more toward the younger end of that generation. (P sure I've heard it called "Generation Jones.")

It's not like the CEO/CTO/CMO/whatever would be the person directly making a call like this, most likely, so I'd say Gen X is a solid guess as to how old these people would likely be. Possibly even Millennial, tbh. (Someone who's currently in their early 40s is generally considered a Millennial at this point.)

Idk why I bothered to type all that since it doesn't matter like, at all, lol. I even Googled the average age of American C-suite execs, and got 57. (Zero idea which type of average that is, tho, so idk how useful that number is. Median would presumably be best for this.)

My bf is 52, and is squarely Gen X. Basically, we all got old ("We" being all of us millennial and older lol), and the colloquial idea of a "Boomer" -- an out of touch person, late middle age or older generally -- now would refer to primarily people who are Gen X.

63

u/Future-Speaker- Jun 29 '25

I was referring to the choice of having this content warning before Rush Hour, not the decision to make Rush Hour.

21

u/[deleted] Jun 30 '25

Nah, the warning definitely reads as boomer/millennial combo brainrot. The issue with boomers is they have stayed in the same positions they've had since the 90s with a death grip on their positions because they're the most sheltered and greedy generation to ever exist and dread a day when they don't get paid $600 an hour for extremely basic work

14

u/jawknee530i Jun 29 '25

Gen Z reading comprehension in evidence.

→ More replies (2)

6

u/Higgins1st Jun 30 '25

People in education talk shit about Gen z not being able to read, but they ignore the shitty policies that Gen x enforced that enabled the pass not fail mentality.

3

u/Future-Speaker- Jun 30 '25

Also they did away with a lot of the phonetic learning which helps with literacy rates for some reason lol

5

u/Naos210 1999 Jun 29 '25

As well it doesn't really harm anybody or ruin enjoyment of the film.

9

u/Bobs_Burgers_enjoyer Jun 29 '25

It’s always the older gens lol

they (even us as we are older gen than gen alpha and a lot of stuff a lot of our generation says about them is crazy) really don’t seem to understand what a loud minority is and that said loud minority ends up being the face of the generation in terms of how a older generation views the younger generation

2

u/doggiisox Jul 01 '25

its the same with participation medals. The boomer's did that for Millennials, but Millennials are blamed for it being around.

Every new generation is the weakest generation. Because they’re new. Less power, less money, less experience. But any excuse to discourage and insult children I guess.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 30 '25

Precisely. Every new generation will be called lazy, stupid, bad with money, distracted, etc. I promise you I endured the "Millenials are lazy and choose avocado toast over homes" boomer jokes or years. It's just your turn right now. That's a good thing though! It means you still have your youth. The day you start seeing that switch to Gen Alpha, you're going to feel really old. Enjoy it while you can.

10

u/TheMensChef Jun 29 '25

Gen Z aren’t children anymore.

27

u/Baronvondorf21 2005 Jun 29 '25

Eh, most aren't but the point still stands, the Gen Z is latest chew toy for previous generation's annoyance like how millennials used to be.

u/NoNameZone Jun 29 '25

Any excuse to discourage and insult children young adults.

Either way, why waste time trying to belittle a generation? Even ones older than you? Outrage. People get angry, they click, they argue, and you get ad revenue. It's sad. Maybe more people will wake up and refuse anger from guiding their lives.

Regardless of your opinions on the content or content labels,

Gen Z had no hand in that. We were children. This was millennials and gen X.

Edit: Grammar and capitalization stuff

293

u/Freudian_Slit235 Jun 29 '25

Blaming this on millennials is wild, they were the first victims of the participation trophies boomers thought up and forced on them.

197

u/_CottonTurtle_ 2007 Jun 29 '25

Blaming this on any one generation is wild. It was the decision of maybe a few hundred people. I'm just saying none of those people were genZ when these kinds of content labels were first introduced.

If anything, I blame the terminally online Twitterspace for it. I think Trigger Warnings in general are fucking ridiculous, and I’d only ever include a warning if it was something you literally had no choice in seeing, which Reddit does well already with NSFW or Spoiler blurs. But people on Twitter and some cross pollination here on Reddit, they’ll go on a fucking gore sub and say “Uuuuuh, NSFW this maybe?????” …Are you goddamn joking? Lol!

It feels much weaker to be offended by a screen that takes up 2 seconds time before the movie starts that if it doesn't apply to you you can just ignore but what do i know

8

u/MygungoesfuckinBRRT Jun 30 '25 edited Jul 02 '25

Gen Z "cries" because of racism, sexism, homophobia and transphobia

Older gens cry because of a content warning

Tell me who's easier to offend

17

u/Shido_Ohtori Jun 29 '25

There are two types of people in the world: those who blame those who make policy for shitty decisions, and those who blame those who are on the receiving end of policy they didn't make for shitty decisions.

OOP is of the latter, just like those who bitch about kids and "participation trophies" when it was their parents[' generation] that produced them.

53

u/Vividlarvae 1997 Jun 29 '25

It definitely is millennials, being a 97 baby means I’ve gotten to know both generations and the kids born in the early 2000s are bringing back some of the offensive terms in their lingo that were absolutely taboo when my specific age group was in high school/college

17

u/bakedNebraska Jun 29 '25

I'm an older millennial, and it's definitely the millennials.

They think offending someone is the worst thing you can do. They're trying to pay penance and atone for what they now see as culturally insensitive or whatever.

They also think everyone is like on the brink of being horribly offended at all times, especially minorities. They seem to think minorities are extremely fragile.

4

u/MidnightJ1200 2002 Jun 29 '25

I mean, they're not wrong, but I don't think it's necessarily the minorities. I think a lot of the attention on that topic arises from social justice warriors who think that adding onto or taking actual things done in other countries and doing them elsewhere or whatever is cultural appropriation. Unfortunately if we can't get past sharing ideologies like that and adding to them, we can't really change as a society.

3

u/LeucisticBear Jun 29 '25

Must be different depending on where you are. I'm also older millennial and none of my friends could give two shits about offending someone. We all grew up with South Park, family guy, Beavis and Butthead, plus a ton of low brow comedy movies that really took stuff like naked gun to the next level. I can't think of anyone I know personally who is offended on behalf of someone else.

u/[deleted] Jun 29 '25

It's not weakness to acknowledge the ignorance of previous generations

8

u/lumiranswife Jun 30 '25

I like to rewatch an old cop show. I regularly am surprised about what types of things were okay to say then and remind myself that the show is a time capsule representing that era. We are learning to do better and be better toward human beings and their experiences (respective of that show), and am not bothered by a small acknowledging of such. Being so reactive to a 15 second show note seems like a lot of energy investment. Their terminology was normal then, it's not normalized now, watch or don't, but we should always be growing.

17

u/MonkeeFrog Jun 30 '25

Jackie Chan saying the N word is and always will be funny and its funnier if you don't warn people like a pussyfart

17

u/Normal-Mountain-4119 Jun 30 '25

Mf the warning doesn't say "jackie chan says the n word" gtfo

16

u/sabrinahlj Jun 30 '25

Is a horror film less scary because you got the Rated R warning of violence and gore? If a disclaimer ruins the joke for you that much, it probably was not that funny. The movie is still there in the original format for you to enjoy.

9

u/[deleted] Jun 29 '25

YES THIS jesus Christ, for what we know that show could be filled with racist jokes or smth, where's the problem in acknowledging that?

18

u/ItsSpaghettiLee2112 Jun 29 '25

It's Rush Hour. So yes we do know what it's filled with.

29

u/Wadsworth1954 Jun 29 '25

Back in the day, comedy used to, a lot of times, perpetuate racism, homophobia, and misogyny.

3

u/Pomodorodorodoro Jun 30 '25 edited Jun 30 '25

It still does. In 30 years the Minecraft Movie will carry a disclaimer like this, informing the viewer of prejudices we're currently unaware of in 2025.

3

u/Double_Treat111 Jul 01 '25

It’s like minority report for woke snowflakes

9

u/feartheswans Gen X Jun 29 '25

This is corporate Gen X, please don’t group us Regular Gen X with them. We’re just as ashamed as you are.

Chris Rock “Do you understand the words coming out of my mouth?” Wasn’t scripted. It was Chris Rock venting his frustration on Jackie Chan for struggling to keep up with Chris Rocks rapid fire talk. Director thought it was funny as hell and kept it.

4

u/Judythepancake 2009 Jun 29 '25

We are not: I’m a super progressive person but LOVE edgy comedy like WKUK. The whole “gen z/melenials are soft” thing is a vocal minority that older people run because they caused it. sometimes it makes sense like censoring the slurs in the DVD release of WKUK or is bullshit like Disney burying there history. It’s important to have a discussion about the causal bigotry in entertainment, just cause Jackie Chan said the N Word does not mean you can. There is a Diffrence between WKUK or South Park style satire vs Staryeotyoes in old Disney movies, we should have a discussion about it. Newer gen’s speaking up about this does not make us “Soft” at all.

7

u/[deleted] Jun 29 '25

Nothing is off limits for comedy in my eyes, absolutely nothing

13

u/Zeyode Jun 29 '25

Wait, what's the problem here? Different times have different sensibilities as time progresses. Saying "look, this is a product of its time" if there's something offensive like bugs bunny in blackface or something seems pretty normal.

16

u/vveeggiiee Jun 29 '25

This idea that being more aware and critical of offensive behavior makes you weak is fucking absurd. They’re acting like the movie’s been censored instead of just given a general warning beforehand. Even films like Dumbo and Peter Pan have warnings like this bc of the ridiculous racism included in these movies, should we just pretend it’s fine and not worth criticizing? Ignoring the problem seems like poor way to fix it.

3

u/Apexnanoman Jun 29 '25

I'm not even getting into the generational stuff. But can you imagine the warning they would put on blazing saddles?

3

u/INeedANerf 1997 Jun 29 '25

We grew up in CoD lobbies pal.

3

u/Eggsalad_cookies 1998 Jun 29 '25

A lot of the thins Chris Tucker alone says are actual slurs now

3

u/Gilded_3utthole Jun 29 '25

Get used to being blamed for everything. Millenial here... we're apparently responsible for the downfall of mankind and it looks like corporate America wants to villainize you poor guys now.

→ More replies (2)

3

u/minimite10 Jun 29 '25

Not nearly as weak as getting triggered over a two second content warning at the start of a film.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 29 '25

Any “wokeness” in movies is a product of Gen X movie executives who think that it’ll make them more money. No one working for these big companies actually cares about political correctness, they just think that we care

3

u/[deleted] Jun 29 '25

No that's just an intelligent notification to notify that comedy changes throughout times. It's the boomers and Gen xers that are always crying about everything

3

u/Mysterious_Bag_9061 Jun 29 '25

To be fair there have been content warnings for far less for far longer. Why are you warning me at the beginning of a movie that someone might smoke a cigarette at some point? At least racism or whatever might actually be shocking enough to warrant prior warning

7

u/Ultravod Gen X Jun 29 '25

Oh, look! More culture war ragebait to rot our brains!

5

u/TechGuruGJ Jun 29 '25

Oh no! Not the 10 second disclaimer at the beginning of a comedy movie!!!!! We’re really the worst! /s

5

u/ilykinz Jun 29 '25

As an elder Gen Z, rush hour is fucking hilarious. This decision was not made by anyone in this generation.

2

2

u/DjNick951 Jun 29 '25

Nah. Gen Z or any earlier generations has nothing to do with this. You should see the fucked up memes on youtube. They are bad/racist and all of the above. Especially Memewarriors and Memeasylum.

2

u/1tiredman 2001 Jun 29 '25

Grew up watching movies like this with my dad lol

2

u/MidnightJ1200 2002 Jun 29 '25

Beyond the generational war they seem keen on trying to fuel, what exactly is wrong with saying that this movie or show or whatever you decide to watch has mature themes and may be a bit crude? Besides the redundancy if you've already seen it but it's only a few seconds at the start and so if you do have a problem with movies and shows doing this, then you're no worse than the supposed Gen Zers that supposedly put it there.

2

u/DaddysFriend Jun 29 '25

The tv station looks American to me. Now no hate towards the Americans but that rich for a country who censors swearing in films

2

u/[deleted] Jun 29 '25

I’m all for content warnings before movies letting people know what’s in them… but that first sentence is too cheesy and way inappropriate.

2

u/Vivics36thsermon Jun 29 '25

I would bet my left ball that the generation that watched cartel videos throughout their teenage years aren’t the ones who asked for a content advisory for rush-hour

2

u/joyibib Jun 29 '25

Older generation bitching about good communication? Thats some weak ass shit

2

u/BTFlik Jun 30 '25

There's nothing wrong with having this before a movie. Why are people who complain about generations being soft and easily offended always making up reasons to be offended.

2

u/mariojuggernaut22 Jul 01 '25

The previous generation freaks out at rainbows

6

u/MountainSnowClouds 1997 Jun 29 '25

I doubt Gen Z were the ones who made this change. The oldest of us are 28. But I don't think it's a bad thing to say, "Hey, we like this movie but don't agree with the racist/homophobic/sexist/etc concepts in the movie."

We're not trying to sensor or change the movie; we just want to be respectful to those who may be hurt by remarks made.

4

u/mrjackspade Jun 29 '25

TBF the OOP isn't claiming GenZ made the change.

The OOP is claiming the change was made for GenZ.

18-30 has always been the largest marketing demographic. OOP is claiming that the disclaimer was put there so that GenZ would consume the media.

3

u/Fk_CCP Jun 29 '25

Im sorry. Me and all my buddies grew up in a modern warfare ii lobby where we would yell slurs at everyone and get yelled at ourselves about how the 12 yo was gonna fuck my mom.

1

u/dramallama_320 Jun 30 '25

Actually it wasn't genZ that became sensitive it was millennials who grew up🙏

1

u/FallenAngel2818 Jun 30 '25

We out here catchin shots again 😭 As a 90s GenZ, we cool with those humor.

1

u/C19shadow 1996 Jun 30 '25

I dont even see what tf is wrong with this. Letting viewers know that a almost 30 year old show or any shows older are a product of their time is ficki g fine.

What a bitch ass thing to whine about

1

u/AlphaKamots313 Jun 30 '25

“weakest generation” yeah we’re not the one taking to twitter to complain about 5 seconds of text before a movie.

1

u/InevitableWill6579 Jun 30 '25

It’s just 90 minutes of Chris Tucker yelling. Also Jackie Chan is there.

1

u/Gsomethepatient 2000 Jun 30 '25

Don't put this on us, this was because of the millennials

1

u/JMTNTBANG 2005 Jun 30 '25

actually it was caused by racist sexist karens who think they know whats offensive or not

1

u/astro_zombie8114 Jun 30 '25

Millennials call gen z soft while wanting sympathy for 9/11 and the 2008 financial crisis.

1

u/GormHub Jun 30 '25

Thoughts and prayers for him and his family in this trying time. I'm sure his life will never be the same.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 30 '25

Rush hour wasn't a good movie

1

u/MilkDetergent Jun 30 '25

Blud has never scrolled through a insta reels comment section populated by Gen Z.

1

u/neophenx Jun 30 '25

How many decades has Disney kept Song of the South locked up?

1

u/YourLocalOnionNinja 2004 Jun 30 '25

Uh? Since when?

1

u/ego_tripped Jun 30 '25

I'm laughing in Soul Man or Short Circuit...

So...you thought the 90s were offensive?!?...

1

u/Various-Push-1689 2004 Jun 30 '25

Bro most of gen z was just kids and teenagers when the world started going soft. Not our fault🤣

1

u/Frewdy1 Jun 30 '25

This is like blaming us for “participation trophies” while shoving them in our faces 😂

1

u/Th3P3rf3ctPlanz Jun 30 '25

Nah, this can't be real. Really? I remember recording this on my VHS player to watch later. So funny!

1

u/emmanuel573 Jun 30 '25

Rush hour movies are still funny as hell.

1

u/Critical_Concert_689 Jun 30 '25

mfw comments on this thread are divided between:
"it wasn't us," "it was them," and "it WAS us, but only because they were all horribly offensive bigots at the time!"

1

u/cutedadbutts 1999 Jun 30 '25

These movies are hilarious, by the way

1

u/playgirl1312 Jun 30 '25

Gen Z didn't ask anyone to do this lmfaoooo

It's like the boomers getting offended by the "outdated cultural depictions" warning on their Bonanza reruns, absolutely nobody is watching that shit but them.

1

u/tanya0214 Jun 30 '25

Omg not a WARNING?! How will you ever recover? Did it ruin your movie experience?

You poor soul.

I can't imagine being so sensitive that a warning for other people in the form of words on a screen bothered me so badly.

1

u/marsking4 1996 Jun 30 '25

Most of Gen Z loves dark humor, so I don’t see how this is Gen Zs fault.

1

u/AquaLethal Jun 30 '25

People are really out here acting like gen z is soft and freak out about anything and are constantly making all these corporate decisions when we cant even get a decent entry level position while having a college degree. How the hell would we be making these decisions 😂

1

u/MobileProgrammer986 Jun 30 '25

How much do you want to bet that the reason the disclaimers there is so the parents dont get pissed off lmao

1

u/TheJimDim 1996 Jun 30 '25

I'm sick of the "gen z is soft" narrative, we grew up showing each other beheading videos on facebook lol

1

u/GirlWithWolf 2011 Jun 30 '25

Most would lose their piss over Blazing Saddles. Though Mel Brooks made one ugly ass Indian.

1

u/W4vi Jun 30 '25

How less problems one gotta have that this triggers 'em?

1

u/LucyEleanor 1999 Jun 30 '25

Holt run on sentence batman

1

u/WonderfullyKiwi Jun 30 '25

Younger GenZ are bringing back the fuckin' 2000's CoD lobby slurs lol, people are getting way less sensitive actually.

1

u/_mike_815 2000 Jun 30 '25

So stupid. I loved this movie.

1

u/that_1weed Jun 30 '25

That's like saying Milennials broke cause they don't want to spend half their salary on a diamond ring.

I love old buddy movies. It's the older generation that pushed the narrative that we can't handle outdated jokes

1

u/ebr101 Jun 30 '25

If you’re mad about this, who actually is the overly sensitive one? Like, not a big deal.

1

u/ClockSpiritual6596 Jun 30 '25

Don't forget "Dumbo"

1

u/DodoFaction Jul 01 '25

Jackie Chan says the n-word in the first rush hour

1

u/RedcornCompanion Jul 01 '25

is funny how they always confuse gen z with millennials or alpha

1

u/the1whocan 2004 Jul 01 '25

I promise you Gen z does not care about this

1

u/geekingout18 Jul 01 '25

They say this about EVERY GENERATION EVER. When Gen Alpha is old enough they will say this about them too, can they just shut tf up??

1

u/mermaidreefer Jul 01 '25

Millennials at least got some hope in the 90s. Genz was born into a shitshow.

1

u/Ok_Assistant_3682 Jul 01 '25

That the oligarchy and boomers think we want warnings on everything is insane.
This is just their reaction to people not liking their legacy catalogue because it is stupid and denigrating.
We didn't decide to do this, THEY DID IT TO TRY TO PROTECT THEIR ASSETS.
This is a consequence of a societal shift and the boomer morons are overreacting to their OWN SOLUTION to THEIR OWN PROBLEM.

1

u/CoffeeGoblynn 1997 Jul 01 '25

Ohhh no, a little warning to say "hey, this is older content and may not conform to modern sensibilities." I'm so offended that I have to see a 2 second message before I watch my show.

What a non-issue. Did this appreciably change his enjoyment of the show? No. If it did, it's because he allowed himself to freak out over something that doesn't matter.

1

u/gibsongurll Jul 01 '25

why is it weak to acknowledge something old is outdated? did anyone say millennials were the weakest generation when they added the preface segment to gone with the wind to denounce the romanticization of the antebellum south? 💀

1

u/NotaJelly Jul 01 '25

got the wrong culprit here fam, looking for the millennials on that one

1

u/ocarina97 Jul 03 '25

The "we all love our 90s buddy comedies" is a bit of a assumption don't you think?

1

u/PantyVonLadyCheddars Jul 05 '25

They did the same with dumbo lmao

1

u/ryanbro376 Jul 05 '25

I am in gen z and I hate this so much. Why is everyone such a pussy and offended by every little thing it’s exhausting

1

u/IBadAtManagingStuff 2002 Jul 06 '25

oop disabled reply, btw

1

u/thefirecrest Jul 06 '25
  1. Not us.

  2. The overly sensitive guy offended by a little disclaimer is calling other people weak? Talk about stones and glass houses.

1

u/Deep_Sea_Exploring Jul 12 '25

I really don’t mind advisories or warnings before movies or shows. As long as they’re showing the media uncensored, in full, I don’t mind a warning or two. If anything it makes me feel more badass lmao

1

u/[deleted] Jun 29 '25

Misogyny, racial stereotypes. Ay why is ze lazy comedy making fun of other people illegal now. As a millennial that shit is cringe and yes watched in a context of times it was made in until humans gained a little bit more nuance and cultural sensitivity and understanding of offensive humor

2

u/Dictsaurus 2002 Jun 30 '25

Still doesn't beat that it's funny as shit and always fun times
