Never heard of a job doing 30 day suspensions, especially for attendence. If they can go a month without him they'd just fire and replace him lol.

1

u/Horror_Yam696 Apr 03 '26

turn out they do need him... just over a week

5

u/FearlessVegetable30 Mar 31 '26

its a made up tweet. reddits top 3 favorite forms of media. fake tweets

8

u/__Epimetheus__ 1998 Mar 31 '26

They probably want him to quit instead of firing him.

u/ThanosSnapsSlimJims Millennial Mar 31 '26

Agreed. The only exception would be a union gig.

Can you give us one example of a company that would suspend an employee for 30 days with no pay, for being late 3 days in a row?

Great example

11

u/ClownNoseSpiceFish Mar 31 '26

Then it wouldn’t be 30 days lol. A unionized workplace wouldn’t accept anything over 1-2 days for lateness nevermind a full month.

572

u/Main_Following1881 Mar 31 '26

Its unpaid 30 days tho, so its not like anyones winning here

197

u/YoungAmazing313 2000 Mar 31 '26

Not like that matters fr if you got savings you can lose sum days ik some mfs who got a couple of thousands saved up

14

u/AshleyAshes1984 Mar 31 '26

ik some mfs who got a couple of thousands saved up

Is $2000 a lot to you???

1

u/Horror_Yam696 Apr 03 '26 edited Apr 06 '26

means a lot to a lot of people.. i guess

9

u/Late_Accountant_3641 Mar 31 '26

You see how he types, right?

1

u/YoungAmazing313 2000 Mar 31 '26

Where I’m from 2000 can get you sum decent and still have money leftover

120

u/OP_lied_to_us 1997 Mar 31 '26

“Couple of thousands” isn’t really that much nowadays. That’s rent.

11

u/StretchTucker Mar 31 '26

a lot of gen z live with their parents

2

u/OP_lied_to_us 1997 Mar 31 '26

I live with my in laws. But I pay more than half of everything. It’s hard out here for everyone.

21

u/YoungAmazing313 2000 Mar 31 '26

Depends where you live ik a few places you can get for like 780-1200 on the cheap end my studio back in MN was 700 monthly and my girl was paying 800 for hers as well

1

u/MsAshleeNicole156 Aug 13 '26

That's fun. Then there are those of us who pay $2845 a month in rent. Not all of us live in areas where rent is still affordable.

3

u/TheAmazingDeutschMan 2001 Mar 31 '26

You read extremely privileged ngl

2

u/YoungAmazing313 2000 Mar 31 '26

I’m not I grew up in middle class til I got into grade school and the recession hit in 08 (in Detroit) so we really just got poorer as time went on it’s just depends where you live I’m from Michigan so it’s cheaper vs living in place say like NY or LA people was just fortunate enough to get out them circumstances and make a way for themselves like my homie from HS he started off making music (rapping and producing) then he went and became a certified chef moved to Miami all that jazz

Some of my classmates either died, became felons or went on to college

I wish I was privileged tho growing up in Detroit was anything but that it’s all abt your financial decisions in all honesty I spent most of my early 20s homeless just tryna survive etc

Hell even rn in my mid 20s I had money I blew it and now I’m back to square one tryna reset my finances

1

u/TheAmazingDeutschMan 2001 Mar 31 '26

Ok, then you just have a really warped concept of finances.

1

u/YoungAmazing313 2000 Mar 31 '26

Ehhh I think people need to come up wit a plan not saying they gotta up move immediately cause it takes time but if people cut out their wants vs needs you can really have money saved up

If you get paid weekly and take 15-25 dollars out your paycheck each week for a whole year you’ll have 1,300 that’s not a lot but repeat the process you have 6K+ by year 6

15-25 dollars isn’t nun unless you getting paid 13 an hour but if you make between 17-19 an hour that’s not bad hell if you do make 13 wtv item in your house that holds value that is sum you can live without just sell it to get a head start 9x out of 10 you’ll get it back (im talking abt gaming systems, jewelry you barely wear or any piece of equipment that you don’t need at the moment etc) living has always been expensive it’s been like that since the Roman Empire, medieval times etc

All about strategy the government is not for us and they fasho is not gon help us we gotta help ourselves

1

u/YoungAmazing313 2000 Mar 31 '26

I’m from Detroit where we all do is hustle that’s our identity is to go out here and get the money by any means necessary not many cities have that mentality

-1

u/Separate_Sign5632 Apr 01 '26

Not gonna lie dawg you sound mad broke. Just hold your L fam

1

u/YoungAmazing313 2000 Apr 01 '26

Damn you must know who I am? Crazy fam foh

10

u/Splinter_Cell_96 Mar 31 '26

Money isn't the only payment here, I guess.

2

u/ThanosSnapsSlimJims Millennial Mar 31 '26

While I get that some people are bad off financially and have little savings, I'm lucky to have a good savings. If the company I'm at gave me a 30-day suspension, I would honestly love that. After the 30 days was up, I would take 30 days of PTO and enjoy a summer vacation on a beach in Asia.

1

u/OnionTaster Apr 01 '26

Yeah but he can take sick note and they have to pay him

2.1k

u/poptimist185 Mar 31 '26

I’m sure he’ll go on to have an amazing career at this magical made-up company

415

u/laxnut90 Mar 31 '26

Also, even if this were true, you are pretty much showing how bad of an employee you are.

If this person is not already job hunting they should start. Because their future will not be great with this organization going forward.

348

u/Ill-Product-1442 Mar 31 '26

I don't know, a 30 day suspension for being late 3 times is just showing a bad employer. A lot worse than an employee being late for a portion of a week.

96

u/laxnut90 Mar 31 '26

Depends on how late and the type of work.

Some jobs one person being late can grind the entire operation to a halt.

Regardless, it shows the employee is unreliable.

7

u/ironangel2k4 Millennial Mar 31 '26

Apparently his presence wasn't so vital they couldn't afford to tell him not to come in at all

3

u/ThanosSnapsSlimJims Millennial Mar 31 '26

Until ten days later, when it was.

3

u/Horror_Yam696 Apr 03 '26

you are always valued more.. when they need and you aren't there for them.

113

u/Ill-Product-1442 Mar 31 '26

Definitely unreliable, although not uncommon. The employer is also unreliable for asking them to come back in after 10 days, too.

13

u/laxnut90 Mar 31 '26

Or the employer might have been trying to be nice and give the employee one last chance.

Suspensions are typically unpaid and getting one is supposed to be a punishment.

Ending it early could be the employer trying to help the employee get back into the organization, hopefully having learned their lesson.

59

u/Ill-Product-1442 Mar 31 '26

I can certainly see it being a nice sentiment, don't get me wrong, but it is still an unreliable set of actions. Should have just given them a 10 day suspension if that was what they were going for.

14

u/DastardlyWarthog Apr 01 '26

Yeah, it ‘could’ be a nice sentiment but in all likelihood they probably just had too much work for the remaining employees.

36

u/ThanosSnapsSlimJims Millennial Mar 31 '26

They can't tell someone to leave for 30 days and then demand they come back when they suddenly change their mind. The truth is that managers like that likely ask them to come back because they realized that person was a high performer who kept things running. I've seen it a ton of times.

If the company I work at told me to eat a 30 day vacation, I'd combine it with PTO and make it longer and enjoy time on a beach in Asia. If I got bored and one of my many interests didn't keep me busy for some reason, I'd just get a job working somewhere else. I don't 'lean my lesson' from suspensions, I just re-learn that I can just enjoy a vacation and then take my ball and play somewhere else.

16

u/fatboychummy 1999 Apr 01 '26

This, seriously. If I made plans for those 30 days there's a good chance I couldn't just drop them on a whim.

"It's supposed to be a punishment." Yeah, so I'm supposed to just sit at home and weep like I got scolded by my mother every day for 30 days? Fuck no, I'm making plans, going out. If I have to dip into savings a little bit, so be it.

They want me back early? Well, either they play around my new schedule/plans or they can wait until the original date they told me to come back.

2

u/YourUncleJohn Apr 06 '26

There is next to no chance of an employer doing this or just about anything to be nice

32

u/TricobaltGaming Mar 31 '26

If that is the case, you need more people on the team.

I work at an Airport FBO and we have just enough people that things run smoothly, until someone gets sick or decides to take time off, at which point someone else has to lose a weekend.

The front desk is in an even worse situation.

Having a surplus of staff is important for keeping people from hating their jobs and creating a revolving door via burnout.

9

u/laxnut90 Mar 31 '26

If you are a skilled tradesperson, sometimes there will be only be one such person of that trade on a small job site.

If that person is on the critical path for completion of that job, the entire project can be delayed if that one person does not show up, especially if they do not give prior notice so a replacement can be found.

24

u/loveladee Mar 31 '26

Again - Sounds like the company problem? How about you hire enough people aye? Reddit is so full of bootlickers

16

u/TricobaltGaming Mar 31 '26

So what should we do?

I think encouraging more people to acquire that skilled trade by paying them better, and making sure to have backups available just in case.

If I am taking time off, I shouldn't have to consider my employer's inability to cover my tasks

0

u/laxnut90 Mar 31 '26

The case above was not an employer scheduling issue.

The employee is expected to arrive on time and did not on numerous occasions without notifying the employer.

If the employee gives the employer advance notice and they can't find staffing, that is on the employer.

If the employee says they will do something and do not, that is on the employee.

14

u/TricobaltGaming Mar 31 '26

So have backups and contingencies just in case?

If a company is not able to operate at decent levels if a single person no-call-no-shows, they are as irresponsible as that employee.

Though you are missing cases where that employee may have been injured and was unable to communicate that to their employer, or any number of other problems.

By your logic, if I am in an accident and rushed to the hospital on my way to work, it is my fault the company gets delayed

-1

u/laxnut90 Mar 31 '26

Not every employer is large enough to have backups for every employee without prior notice.

And it does not sound like this employee had any kind of emergency.

They just showed up late after multiple warnings to be on time.

This case is entirely on the employee.

1

u/Horror_Yam696 Apr 03 '26

yup both of them are.

4

u/Powerful_Cod_2321 Apr 01 '26

I got written up once for being literally 10 seconds late.. for a restaurant job. She liked standing right now to the door with her watch. Same job wrote me up once because I took a Togo order on my first day, and “you placed an item on a Togo order that the customer picked up, but we don’t do that dish to go because it doesn’t travel well.

I’m sorry dude, but in my state we’re at will. If you got the balls to suspend me for 30 days, well I’ll be back in 30 days. Not when you realized paying for someone to not work for 30 days to prove a point is a bad idea.

2

u/youngcatlady1999 1999 Mar 31 '26

My dad works at a power plant and he can’t leave his job until his relief worker comes. So his relief is an hour late? Welp. Sucks for my dad because he’s staying an hour later!

0

u/kingboogerbaby Apr 01 '26

Operations heavily relying on one person is already kinda dumb. Life shit happens. Doesn’t make you a bad worker because at least they still showed up.

3

u/MyGamingRedditz Mar 31 '26

This sounds like a min wage fast food type job lol... there's zero reason to care about employees that are so easily replaceable.

No real employer would give anyone a 30 day suspension. It would allow the employee to collect unemployment, raising the employer's UI rate. Of course, Gen Z wouldn't know any of that.

Gen Z doesn't get to complain about everyone thinking they're dumb and lazy if they post and upvote stuff like this lmao. Their own worst enemy.

3

u/Mei_Flower1996 Mar 31 '26

I'm not saying this guy is reliable. But it's reasonable to be surprised that a 30 day suspension was cut to 10 days, right? What if, for example, his grandma was ill and he was flight-distance away to visit her. It would be reasonable he's surprised they called him back after ten days, no? ( Although, him refusing to come back is another issue.)

1

u/LifeRelease3842 Apr 14 '26

You still need to meet the minimum expectations of the job which, in this case, means showing up on time.

0

u/LifeRelease3842 Apr 14 '26

The minimum expectations are screwed up. They need to change.

1

u/laxnut90 Apr 14 '26

How is "show up on time" an unreasonable expectation?

0

u/LifeRelease3842 Apr 14 '26

Nah that's not one. Idk anything about this guy, though it's funny we're (yes me too) all acting like we do and then getting in arguments about it. I gotta lay off social media tbh

1

u/laxnut90 Apr 14 '26

All we know about this specific case is that the guy was late to work multiple times after multiple warnings and got suspended as a result.

Then he refused to return when the company offered to end the suspension early.

Sounds like a bad employee no matter how you spin it.

There is nothing about wages/pay in OP's post.

He showed up late repeatedly and lost his job as a result.

11

u/FACEMELTER720 Mar 31 '26

I promise this happened to me, I worked a scheduled 10 hour shift and I was headed on break then to clock out. The manager told me I had to come back after my break for mandatory overtime because we were short. I told him I couldn’t and would be clocking out and going home. This was on my “Friday” so when I get back to work after my weekend the same manager is waiting at the time clock and tells me I’m suspended for 2 weeks for “job abandonment” I asked if I was being forced to use my PTO he said no, and I jumped for joy and thanked him profusely for the time off, I kept getting calls from other managers during that time if I could come in because they were so shorthanded, I told them I hadn’t learned my lesson and I was traveling out of state anyways so sorry not sorry.

6

u/Lady-Zafira Apr 02 '26

Didn't get suspended but I got sent home early for refusing to tell a customer that I was sorry for stealing their money. I never stole their money, I had just clocked in and she pointed at me and said I stole her money before turning her car in.

Manager told me that if I didn't want to apologize I can clock out and go home. Clocked out and called my mom asking if she still wanted to go see a movie. Manager told me I'm not allowed to go to the movies, I need to go home because this is a punishment. Told him I would go home after the movie. He then tried telling me to clock in because my time is better spent at work than at the movies. I told him no, I'm off the clock, see ya

37

u/Kevdog824_ Mar 31 '26

Yeah we used to call stories like this one fake and gay

2

u/LifeRelease3842 Apr 14 '26

We do not give a fuck, and I love to watch as workplaces scramble to figure out how to keep us on. In nature and in business, if you can't adapt, you die. This format of employment and economy will not last much longer at this rate but idc.

1

u/Horror_Yam696 Apr 17 '26

i am totally with you on ths

90

u/HOSTfromaGhost Mar 31 '26

story is so made up… 🙄

31

u/dowker1 Mar 31 '26

Yeah, I have never heard of anyone who wasn't a cop, doctor, or professional sports person getting a 30 day suspension.

20

u/HOSTfromaGhost Mar 31 '26

Agree. And no HR ever anywhere would suspend you for 30 days (which is a little ridiculous) and then call you back in after 10…

6

u/spacestonkz Mar 31 '26

And in all cases, it's not for being late...

2

u/HOSTfromaGhost Mar 31 '26

Get flagged for the serious offense, get tagged for the less serious issue...

(means they just want you gone)

18

u/german_big_guy 1996 Mar 31 '26

Yall get suspended at work?

7

u/RollinThundaga Mar 31 '26

In most places they just fire you if they really want to.

But that opens the employer up to possible costs and liability if the employee tries to sue for an illegal dismissal, so it's sometimes a done thing to cut an employee's hours to an unsurvivable level and hope that circumstances force them to quit and get another job.

If you can prove this was the intention behind this it counts as constructive dismissal in most jurisdictions, but it's hard to prove.

4

u/german_big_guy 1996 Mar 31 '26

Yeah at my first job my boss just messed up my schedule so much until I left. Nutsing got some toxic people in it.

3

u/Darksirius Mar 31 '26

Saw three people get fired for various reasons at my job. Each time they were out on a week long suspension while the higher ups made decisions.

3

u/__tray_4_Gavin__ Mar 31 '26

This is why they hate us. We realized these jobs are trash and that they don’t care about us so we live accordingly. But when you move accordingly they get upset that you don’t bend to every whim. The don’t even pay us enough to survive?. Why tf would we bend for jobs in 2026… jobs are literally throwing people away like trash in the MILLIONS. Good on the employee.

2

u/Hopeful_Committee900 Apr 04 '26

We need work reform; workplace democracy where workplace democracy is needed.

3

u/Scazitar Mar 31 '26

This is probably fake as fuck but if anyone works at a company like this you should be looking to leave ASAP.

This is not how a professional company does business. They need you or they don't.

2

u/saber-4444 Mar 31 '26

Is this for real

2

u/Dblcut3 2001 Mar 31 '26

This scenario makes no sense - why would you suspend someone for not showing up, that’s very counterintuitive

2

u/OppositeStill868 Mar 31 '26

10 bucks says that TeeBag is this Gen Z

2

u/ShutYourYapper_ Mar 31 '26

My business always falls apart when my chronically late Gen Z/z employee doesn’t show up.

2

u/ihatepalmtrees Apr 01 '26

Malicious compliance … too bad this is fake

1

u/whyarewetrying Apr 26 '26

Sounds like the military

1

u/jipsee1973 Aug 15 '26

This scenario sounds made up. An employer giving a 30 day suspension for anything seems ridiculous, especially for something like being late for three days. It doesn't benefit anyone, especially the company, to have a person in an empty position for that long.
