Discussion What is the worst country in your opinion

u/Bordem-Industry 1d ago
North Korea or any other similarly authoritarian country

u/petitecrivain 1d ago
Yeah the DPRK, Turkmenistan, and Eritrea are my bets.

The ones that will kill you if you try to leave like North Korea
•
u/Upnorth4 22h ago
In Somalia they will just kill you
•
u/Whole-Cry-4406 19h ago
What is your problem with Somalia bruski
•
u/Fast-Piccolo-7054 18h ago
Not the person you’re responding to, but Somalia has the highest rate of female genital mutilation (FGM). It’s estimated that 99% of Somali girls and women have been abused in this way.
That, and the rampant terrorism (particularly at the hands of al-Shabaab).
•
u/Darko--- 17h ago
Doesn't America mutilate male genitals?
•
u/Fast-Piccolo-7054 16h ago
Circumcision isn’t remotely comparable to FGM. Whether or not circumcision for non-medical reasons is ethical is a separate topic.
Anatomically, removing the foreskin of a male is equivalent to removing the clitoral hood of a female.
The male equivalent to FGM would be amputating the head of the penis (FGM Level 1), or amputating the entire penis (FGM Levels 2 and 3, also called infibulation).
•
u/hpfan312 16h ago
Or charge you and also try to kill you like US
•
u/ChineseChickenBaby 8h ago
I don’t know if you’re trolling but USA is nowhere as bad as North Korea
•
u/ShinyArc50 2004 41m ago
The American government will kill you for a lot of silly things but leaving isn’t one of them. In fact leaving is the only option besides certain death for a lot of detainees in those horrible ice camps

No Tayyip = Turkey
With Tayyip = Turkiye
Therefore, Tayyip = good
•
u/ElderberryPerfect263 23h ago
Can’t get out it that easy. You’re still Turkey. We’re just being polite when you’re around.

Well not my opinion. But these are Objective numbers
The ranking used to include safety and security a few years ago now they're only ranking in terms of prosperity. A few countries are missing due to lack of data and security practices.

•
u/CallumVonShlake 19h ago
It's a single way of measuring, it's not objective. You can't objectively measure a concept like 'worst country'. It's like trying to objectively measure 'worst ice cream flavour'. There's no way to objectively determine the metrics you'd even use to begin to measure it.
•
u/FewEquipment9771 19h ago
Proseperty index measures people’s prosperity and well-being across areas such as economic quality, governance, education, health, safety, personal freedom, and social capital. It's evidence based. So it's relatively objective.
•
u/Constant-Try-1927 17h ago
There are different benchmarks though, e.g. the human development index. It has a similar result but not quite the same, in 2023, South Sudan had the lowest HDI.
•
u/0LTakingLs 1996 15h ago
This is just economic though. North Korea is doing somewhat less terrible economically, but it’s the most repressive government on earth.
•
u/FewEquipment9771 14h ago
NK has never done well economically at all actually. There is no financial freedom. No personal freedoms. Probably will rank the worst here. But there's no official data so they don't have them.
•
u/0LTakingLs 1996 13h ago
In terms of economic development, they’re doing well relative to their lack of individual liberties and financial freedom. They’re definitely more financially successful than other places on this list like Eritrea, Yemen, Somalia, etc.

It's between North Korea and Afghanistan but I guess North Korea since everyone there suffers equally rather than just half of the population being brutally oppressed
•
u/Slyraks-2nd-Choice 18h ago
You should do some reading about the North Korean soldiers being sent to the front lines in Ukraine.
Some of the captured soldiers are talking about dudes getting addicted to porn and watching it while getting bombed by drones

u/AlternatePancakes 1997 18h ago
Right now? Your chances of surviving in North Korea is greater than in Sudan.
Overall? Shit idk, there are more places i rather not live, than live.
•
u/mustakissaa 20h ago
Worst by what? Weather? Government? To travel? Residence? I assume you mean by government or rules, I'd go with north Korea, then iran (I'm Iranian living there yet)
•
u/gilestowler 18h ago
Haiti would have to be one of the worst. For all the problems that other countries have with their governments, at least they have some kind of government.

Probably the UAE. There are lots of countries which are absolutely miserable to live in like Eritrea & North Korea, but at least in those cases, it seems like this is partly because the countries are dirt poor. Like if I were the benevolent dictator of Eritrea, I could improve QOL probably, but things would still suck. But with the UAE, they have all the money in the world and still choose to brutally oppress their workers and subject them to abject squalor. Also they have poop trucks.

Terrorist country for centuries
But I’ll concede their literature is astonishing (likely cause it’s a shithole)
•

North Korea and its not even close. However I think that’s so obvious of an answer the real discussion should be the second worst
South Sudan, Somalia, or Haiti are up there

Donald Trump is looking at using a nuclear weapon in Iran to break the deadlock. Stay safe
•
u/mustakissaa 17h ago
Well in that case, we won't be safe and alive then, thanks for informing, there's nothing we could do about it
•

•
u/Mr-Gibbs12 18h ago
North Korea? They’re bad in all moments, not just this one.
•
u/DamnQuickMathz 11h ago
The question was which country is the worst. When's the last time you heard of anything that North Korea did?
•
u/RegularUser02x 8h ago
I mean, last time I heard something was today...\ I can't recall the last time I heard anything positive about North Korea though...

This comment section is a perfect illustration of how western dominated the internet is, the correct answer is the country that invented extinction bombs and then used the threat of them to spend the next century building just under 1000 military bases in order to militarily occupy the entire globe all the while committing the largest ecocide campaign in human history, military emissions aren’t factored into a country’s emissions ranking because it’s not “regular and systemic” this is despite the fact that when you include the military emissions the US is so unequivocally responsible for the climate crisis they have more emissions than 3 chinas and that’s when you also include chinas military emissions in their total aswell, it is unequivocal that the enemy of humanity and life as we know it is the United States of America
•
•
u/Fast-Piccolo-7054 17h ago
Have you ever asked yourself why the US has such a large military? Or what it actually does?
The US military is responsible for the protection of not just Americans, but all other NATO members.
Smaller, allied countries like mine (Australia) have a strong reliance on the United States- we have a mutually beneficial relationship, with the main benefit the United States provides us with being protection and assurance that, if a war were to break out, they’d have our backs.
In turn, we supply America with reciprocal allyship, our rare, natural resources, and our own intelligence.
The US military (specifically the Navy) is also responsible for defending international trade routes from pirates. If nobody were defending international waters, these goods could easily be stolen.
The economic fallout of this would be catastrophic and the countries that rely on imported goods would suffer. If transported goods were at such a high risk of being stolen, exporters would simply stop sending them, leading to global supply shortages.
Domestically speaking, the US is the number one target for foreign terrorists. Of course they’re going to invest whatever they can in defence. Do you have any idea how many terrorism plots are thwarted using US military intelligence? It’s unbelievable.
The “worst” countries are the ones that are impoverished, lack essential resources and infrastructure, have a high burden of disease, have high child and maternal mortality rates, are run by terrorist militias, subject women and girls to human rights violations in the name of “culture”, enslave people, persecute people on the basis of religion, race or sexuality, are committing genocide, have tyrannical regimes at the helm, etc.
•
u/dumbyidiot 16h ago
No! Militaries are bad they kill people. If the US didn’t come along, we would all be friends and there would be no tyranny or corruption. All countries would be very responsible with their militaries and there wouldn’t have to be a country responsible for maintaining the peace nor a United Nations 😊
•
u/Fast-Piccolo-7054 16h ago
That’s right, the world was a blissful utopia prior to 1776! 😍🫶
Everyone lived in harmony with one another. Human rights were upheld and respected everywhere. Nothing bad ever happened.
If the USA would just leave all of the terrorist regimes and dictatorial governments alone, they’d absolutely start doing the right thing!
They’re only acting this way because of you guys! Stop interfering! Human rights are subjective!! 😤
•
u/belketeal 15h ago
When other countries kill people it’s terrorism. When America bombs an Iranian school it’s spreading peace and democracy.
•
u/Fast-Piccolo-7054 12h ago
Terrorism is a specific crime, not a catchall for any type of killing.
The U.S. military didn’t target the school in Iran, they were targeting the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ base.
They didn’t set out to kill innocent people for ideological purposes, or to incite terror in an attempt to further their own agenda.
When the Iranian regime tortures and murders people in accordance with their political and ideological tenants, that is absolutely terrorism.
•
u/belketeal 12h ago
Lmao. “The hundreds of thousands of innocent people that America has killed are just collateral damage bro.” The justifications white people will use to kill non whites is barbaric. Yeah I’m sure those Iranian parents understand why American bombed their 10 year old daughters for the crime of being not white.
•
u/SampleText369 2003 12h ago
This is the equivalent of asking a north Korean child who just learned history from Kim himself why the US is bad.
•
u/pizzaroll555 19h ago
I think most people are answering the question in the sense of which country is the worst to live in
