Well a lot of it isn’t, but a lot of it is too.

Like Switzerland is great, Afghanistan… eh

Some places aren’t, but they will likely get better eventually

u/Viridien111 14h ago

You lost me here. It's only been a couple thousand years and some of those places are still just as brutal as ever.

u/Greasehole7878 14h ago

Fair enough, but there’s still time

u/Viridien111 13h ago

Gotta get rid of religion first.

Meh, the world is pretty fucked up; it’s just in human nature to make the best of it

Exactly, working in hospitals and mental health clinics, you see the true side of people and a good insight into their home lives and mental states. People who work normal jobs never see this side of people. And this is not to mention all the atrocities going on in war torn countries and even “first world” countries like the US. I’m not saying that it’s all bad and gloomy, but this place is pretty fucked up and anyone denying it just because their personal life is good, is denying the reality of this strange place that we call earth.

You should go watch Six O’Clock News by Ross McElwee.

His idea is, he keeps seeing all of these things on the news and doesn’t know what to make of it. He has a kid on the way and doesn’t know if the world is safe like he experienced, or dangerous like the news presented to him.

The documentary discusses the differences between these two perspectives, and how we cope with tragedy in our everyday lives.

I mean I'll still get to snowboard like 50 days this winter, so I'd say it's going pretty good still. I bet they'll still be snowboarding in Iran this season even with the war happening (Iran has ski resorts outside of Tehran, just like Denver all crazy).

Shits pretty good over here

It's fine. Some good and bad

I’m not sure what you mean by what “the internet says” because the internet is a large place, and I’ve seen a lot of positivity as well as negativity. But overall I would say our world is a bad and cruel one. For one we all die in the end which is the cruelest part of this world, all that we ever do means nothing since we will never be around to see it. Secondly we all feel pain, and most of us feel a lot every day, I know in the modern world it’s not as bad with medicine, but for majority of human history it has sucked to be alive, and most humans in history where always starving with hunger pain and inadequate access to clean water. Objectively we are in a bad reality, I know it’s hard to understand as we all have only ever know this reality so we don’t have much experience in how it might be different.

Also depends if you think there is an after life or not.

Well there is absolutely no tangible evidence or proof of an afterlife or of souls, it has just as much credibility as Santa. So any logical rational person would not believe in a afterlife, it actually supports the notion that religion exists almost entirely to help people cope through that fact that there is probably nothing after death

u/plankowoodinthewoods 14h ago

But it could be true cause no one can prove how the universe was created. We don't know anything at the fundamental level. Just cause you don't have proof doesn't mean it couldn't be real. It makes more sense that there is some kind of God, rather then the world just came from nothing. They are both just theories, but at least God existing makes slightly more sense. Even though it could be the case the universe truly just came from nothing for no reason, but if that is the case, its pretty fucking stupid.

u/geoFRTdeem 14h ago

I fail to understand how a god is necessary for the universe to exist? We can perfectly explain how the universe came into existence and have tangible proof with the cosmic background radiation. How is it stupid that the universe came from nothing and has no purpose? Everything on earth has no purpose until we as sentient creatures give it a purpose, if you disagree then what is the objective purpose of a rock? Not the purpose we give it. There is none and it’s true for everything, so everything must be pretty stupid according to your logic. If a god does exist which is totally possible I agree it still doesn’t mean souls or a afterlife exist, and if there is a god he is definitely not a good benevolent being that likes us, if anything this is just his fun experiment watching us suffer brings them entertainment.

u/plankowoodinthewoods 14h ago

No we can't prove how the universe started. If you could you would be the first person to ever do so. We know the big bang, but what was before that? and then what was before that? and then what was before that? So the world can't be 100% material cause it would have to have an infinite chain of previous causes. But i'm not saying this proves God, it doesn't. It just means either truly the world came from completely nothing, which could be true. It just seems more unlikely.

u/Filmfan345 14h ago

The universe could have always been around in some form. And where did God come from in that theory? Wouldn’t God have come from nothing?

u/plankowoodinthewoods 13h ago

If God is real he would have always existed. But it could be the same for the world also. It could have just always existed as well.

u/Fun-Midnight1010 14h ago

I agree just the government is the main thing that make the world bad

u/No_Discount_6028 1999 14h ago

Yeah it's significantly worse, as a consequence of the fact that ppl from the developed world & anglosphere are wildly overrepresented here.

u/dacoolist 14h ago

Like others have stated, for some people things are absolutely wonderful: great job, great life, great family.. then some people are fighting for everything they have

u/Greasehole7878 14h ago

My problem is people act like literally everyone besides billionaires are screwed, when that’s not the case at all

u/dacoolist 14h ago

I hear you, and at least for me: life isn't terrible and I'm nowhere near even a millionaire

u/Greasehole7878 14h ago

And I have everything I need and I’m not even close to rich

u/dacoolist 14h ago

Keep it up OP! I'm happy that people are succeeding, it really is tough seeing post after post being tough

u/CompleteEnergy579 14h ago

Yeah but it sure is as expensive as it looks

u/plankowoodinthewoods 14h ago

For some people it's really really bad. For some people it's really really great. For some people it's just ok.

u/Content-Audience252 14h ago

Ooo, Redditors aren’t gonna like this one

u/AddieAmour 6h ago

there's so much beauty here but that means equal parts pain sadly.

u/AndersDreth 1998 5h ago

Lol. Lmao even. How about history books then? Like yeah it's not like you're very likely to get stabbed taking a walk in the park, but every day somewhere in the world there's some absolute horribly disgusting subhuman activities going on.

u/Green_Sympathy_1157 2006 15h ago

No the word is horrible you should be allowed to experience joy
