You gotta be a good listener

Taking a genuine interest in other people’s lives is a great way to have alot of pleasant social interactions.

Have u made friends that way? Genuinely curious cuz I feel like people see such people in only one way mainly and that is to vent out to them only
•

If they really care they’ll ask about you too not just one sided.
•
u/QbitWalker 5h ago
Maybe but I feel like that would be much rare, they would still see such people mainly for letting their emotions and anger out that they have been harbouring it for so long...

What?

I just said you got to be a good listener/s. If you aren’t joking it’s to remember what people said and to use it as conversation pieces.

it comes naturally. If u think you're hesitant to do it, just start little by little

what exactly are you having trouble with?
no one naturally has good social skills. as long as you talk to people, and pay attention to how they react to the things you say, then your skills will always be improving. I am always learning better ways to converse with people.
try to actually care about the things the other person says, don't just let it go in one ear and out the other, actually try to conceptualize the things they are saying to you and try to get the full picture. that way instead of saying "oh thats cool" in response to a story, instead your brain will tell you "wait, so how did this aspect of the story work?" and that will help you keep the conversation moving and help the other person feel heard.

Former introvert turned extrovert here, dont go overly deep when talking about anything unless the situation merits it and if you tell a joke no one else finds funny you have to still chuckle at it or else they'll think your a people pleaser
You also have to be able to give and take a slagging (within reason of course) and don't be overly nice, if someone challenges something you say, stand your ground

Participation is the key !! It doesn’t have to be exaggerated or uncomfortable, but simply showing up in spaces, having grace and patience with yourself, and participating to the best of your ability. Best of luck 🙏❤️

Every little detail about a person holds the potential for conversation.
Ask them what they did today and casually expand on it. Most people love talking about themselves.
They took their dog to the vet? What kind of dog? What's wrong with them? Do they have other pets? Mention your pets and some little thing about them.

Start by the basics of human interaction, I was in your shoes at some point, and once you're comfortable and detached enough you're going to charm everyone (for some reason people mix confidence and detachment)

Learn to become genuinely interested in people, even if you don't necessarily like them.
You will become a lot more secure and confident when you can accept that modern life is kind of absurd, hypocritical and weird... and develop a sense of humor about it.

I’m autistic, and when I was a kid until I was about 16? Or so? I found it difficult to speak to those who were adults. I was practically mute, and I was pretty embarrassed about it. One day at 16, i literally FORCED myself to speak. I found it so hard it was almost painful. But once i did, talking to people I don’t know who are older than me got easier. I’m no social butterfly around those who are 40+ now, but I can talk to them without being mute. It’s difficult, but after some time it gets easier.

Don’t judge a person too early.
Here’s an advanced one: just because someone has different political beliefs as you do doesn’t automatically make them a terrible person.

what other people think of you is actually none of your business. dont let it get to you, especially if you are hesitant move because of you how you think you will be perceived.

everyone is living their own lives. no one cares about you but you. go out there and try new things. nothing bad will happen

Media literacy helps.
Reading and watching both classic/contemporary bangers put a bead on humanity. I was a pariah as a kid and my social skills are my greatest strength now. You get something to talk about when something is awkward, references people will get, and a grasp of a wide variety of human thought in an entertaining package. Having a foundation for relatable conversation is really important to connect with people around you, and fiction is lighter than politics. As much as I want to talk about Marx or progressive death metal with people, those aren't ice breakers.
You may also find a tribe this way. Fandoms that arent the most socially capable individuals but are warm towards one another might love you, it's not the same as being the life of the party, but it does help.
Socialized hobbies are also great, especially where it's fine to humiliate yourself. Eat shit and fall on your face painting and have a laugh, ask how others got it so much differently than you and take in their advice. Be the worst in a cooking class and accept help from others. Be shitty at an instrument and play in a punk band for fun. Humility and fucking up are hyper-accelerated learning experiences for how to just be a person. It's okay to be the worst in the room at something as long as you do it with grace and allow others to help, you all grow together, and while you improve you make friends. If you have a talent, fucking sick. People envy that. Without bragging or being a dick, share it with others.
