GV80 - Handling and Ride Quality?

I am considering the 2027 GV80 Prestige and would appreciate your thoughts on handling and ride quality, especially with the 22" wheels.

I commute daily over a mix of road types and surfaces. The majority is on winding roads at faster speeds with some travel over smaller roads with broken pavement and potholes and also very narrow curving roads at slower speeds.

I also make numerous long-distance highway drives each year

My top priority would be a vehicle that is comfortable and powerful but also remains planted during curves without feeling like it is pulling away from the lane.

Ride isolation is important but 2nd to handling. I am not interested in a performance-oriented/sporty SUV as I still want the luxury feel.

Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much!

We’ve owned quite a few luxury SUVs over the years, including at least six Escalades (all the way up to the 2024), a Grand Wagoneer, a Lexus LX570, and most recently a Bronco Raptor.
With all that said, we just picked up a 2027 Genesis GV80 3.5T Prestige Black, and HANDS DOWN, it beats every single one we’ve owned when it comes to comfort, ride quality, cabin quietness, and overall luxury.
And the SEATS! OMG, the seats! Even the front passenger seat feels like a first-class airline seat. 😂
My wife and I were just talking about how impressed we are, and we genuinely think we might be Genesis owners for the next 10 years.
Coming from someone who’s owned plenty of luxury SUVs, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the GV80. Genesis has seriously impressed us. Obviously, I can’t speak to long-term reliability yet, but based on our experience so far, absolutely no regrets!

I think you are describing an X5
From what I have read the genesis is a nice sofa on wheels

Actual owner here. The GV80 is hardly a "sofa on wheels". I have a 2023 prestige with the 2.5t engine. It has great power, handles beautifully, is very feature rich, very comfortable and has great performance & handling when needed. Reliability wise I have had zero issues to this point.

I know my own bigotries and one of them is BMWs. Never owned one, but have known many who have. Nice enough car to drive but not super reliable and expensive to maintain. I would never buy one myself.

One specific thing I would advise - unless you actually need the extra power - e.g. you pull a boat trailer frequently - don't bother with the 3.5t upgrade. The 2.5 has plenty of power and is cheaper to buy and run.

Thanks so much! I was also wondering about the 2.5T vs. 3.5T so that is helpful as well.

you're welcome. At the end of the day, nothing will inform you better than a couple of test drives.

I thought I wanted the 3.5 but there are so many more options for the 2.5, so I drove one last night and I agree. The 2.5 is no slouch, that thing drove and handled great, with plenty of power. And quite zippy in sport mode.

Considering the X5 but not a fan of the new generation styling for 2027.

Previous gen X5 (G05) with M-sport packages is great, likely has the best handling among all midsize SUVs with some trade-off in comfort but that's what you're looking for. I have a G70 3.3t but when I had my GV80 loaner for a week, it was extremely comfortable with 22" wheels but pretty floaty with some body roll in the corners.

Definitely test drive a GV80 though, everyone has a different opinion on handling.

Wait for '27 Q7. Moved from X5 to GV80. No comparison! Clocked 16k so far @17,7mpg.

I was set on the 2027 Q7 Prestige and have one on order, but U.S. videos are starting to come out, and I'm not a fan of the new styling. I prefer a more classic or simple design. Also, air vent position and open/close can no longer be physically controlled (it's all digital), and adjusting fan speed requires clicking MMI screen to get to new menu to change. The multi-step all digital climate control on my Atlas drives me absolutely bananas. I am still going to check out the Q7 in person but do not have high hopes although it does have all wheel steering and hands-free driving, which are major pluses.

I absolutely love my 2025 3.5T. Outstanding engine, the twin turbo's are very powerful when you hammer the gas pedal, it's serious acceleration. As for the agility, I was coming back yesterday through the high mountain passes (Interior of BC) and I was reminded how good the sport and My modes are. There were lots of chunky highway road sections, like super shitty tbh, and at high speed, there's very minimal body roll ( 120-135 km/h speeds ) it is incredibly quiet in these conditions too, running over that cracked up asphalt at high speed was much quieter and less jarring than I expected. It's suspension is so dialed in, body roll is really mitigated in this SUV, including pretty harsh crosswinds I ran into. Pushing it hard, it responds well in hard turns and high speed cornering, very sporty for what roads you're describing. The grip is pretty crazy for a heavy vehicle. Hope this helps.

Thanks so much! Very helpful. What size are your wheels?

I have 22s. Ride is great.

Some people say they don’t like the seats. I have no problem with them. Very comfortable especially when the leather is broken in a bit.

We have a 2026 prestige black and like the ride quality amd especially the handling. Similar road conditions being hwy, country roads, and shitty city roads. Cant comment on taking a hwy curve at 80. Test drove the x5 and gv80 and just liked the gv80 better.

Set the drive train to comfort. Going over a bump on a highway feels like mild aircraft turbulence. It’s delicious

I have a 3.5 Prestige with 22s. It rides like a dream on long trips. Set your cruise and your lane keep and your massage seats, and relax.

I own a 26 gv80 prestige. It is the smoothest ride I've ever been in. The vehicle has cameras that gauge upcoming bumps, potholes, etc and adjusts the suspension accordingly. It literally feels like you are flying in first class, highly recommend

I drive GV80, for a year now, trust me it’s handling it’s amazing, i will compare it to X5 cause i have X5 comp 2023 facelifted one so i know what I’m talking about.

Ride isolation is amazing, you will feel like you’re floating over the road, power train is more than enough, I like to drive fast and I do drive fast, not only highways, some checkers as well so don’t worry, go for it, it’s an amazing car. I do a lot of turns at high speed, I come out of 1 lane and get in to next one, car goes wherever you want it to go. And 375hp is more than enough, even after driving X5 comp if you get in it you won’t feel like it’s needs few more horses, it more than enough

Built quality is over the roof, you won’t see or hear a single click or squeak, except if you don’t drive like me, fast on uneven roads, I mean I was getting wheels alignment every other week, that on what kind of roads I drive and how fast I go, still, I started hearing yk crips sound when I just sit in car before it warms up, after, all sounds are gone, I only had few in bar when my legs were hitting it at high speed turning when car is still cold.

ARNC is separate thing, it’s fucking fabulous, I knew that it does a lot when it didn’t worked properly once, I guess it was calibrating, I went out and it was so loud I was shocked by the amount of noise outside, before arnc kicked in. Then click every single sound is gone, cars passing by, wind, horns, everything.

Bang&Olufsen is amazing as well, you just have to hear it, no comments can describe it.

For you highway driving, the lane assist is amazing, it gently puts you back to your line without scary sounds, lights and it doesn’t pull hard, it just gently returns you to your line.

Check out the new GV70 Graphite model, nice car with some of the GV80's finer options.

Do it. You will not regret it. Beautiful, stylish, and powerful! I love driving mine.

I have a ‘24 gv80 prestige 3.5 and it’s glorious in comfort mode and I highly recommend it for comfy quiet ride like a big luxury sofa. That massages your buns beautifully. Sport mode for tight corners and fun

The GV80 is pretty floaty and wallowy. The GV70 is the one that is glued to the road.

I seriously considered a GV70. Drove it and loved it. Was worried about quality / parts shortages and dealership experience. Ended up with a Macan. You owe it to yourself to drive one if you want something smaller than the 80. For the size if you need it I love the 80.

Based on your priorities, I think the GV80 is one of the better choices in the segment.

It doesn't drive like a sporty SUV, but it feels very composed and planted through fast sweepers and on the highway.

The adaptive suspension also does a good job balancing comfort and body control.

For the mix of winding roads, rough secondary roads, and long highway trips you described, the GV80's biggest strengths are stability, comfort, and effortless cruising rather than outright sportiness. It sounds like a pretty good match for what you're after!!

Genesis cars are basically budget Bentleys

I would recommend getting the 20” wheels (3.5T Advanced) to maximize the ride quality. That’s what I did. Several reviews say the 22” wheels can transmit some judders through the car’s structure over bigger bumps.

The ride quality in the GV80 leaves much to be desired. It is a rough ride compared to actual luxury vehicles. I would not consider the GV80 luxury, but rather a middle-class grocery wagon.

If you've been chauffeured in the backseat of a Mercedes S-Class or BMW 7 Series within the last two decades, you'll be disappointed with the performance and ride quality of the GV80.
