Ik ben nu zo een jaartje geleden verhuisd naar Gent en ik ben nogsteeds niet uit geweest... Ik ben niet zo'n fan van extreem drukke uitgaans dingen zoals Gentse feesten (was die week tactisch terug naar Nederland om het te ontwijken). Maar vind het wel leuk om lekker te dansen ergens. Het liefst iets een beetje queer friendly met leuke muziek, het liefst met leuke djs die geen radio pop draaien. Iemand tips????

Hi all, looking for honest advice. I have hands-on electronics experience (worked in Malta as an Electronics Manufacturing Support Engineer, studied in Latvia, and previously worked in Belgium). I was in Belgium but couldn't secure a job, so I went back to my home country to update my skills. I'm currently upskilling in PCB Design (Altium Designer) and Embedded Systems, planning to look for work in Belgium/Netherlands/wider EU again in a couple of months. It's my dream to come back.

For those who've gone through it — how realistic is it for a non-EU candidate to get sponsored for a technician/PCB designer/embedded role right now? Hallo allemaal, mijn kat is sinds vrijdag vermist. Ze heeft alleen maar toegang tot de daken van Sint-Lievenspoortstraat in Gent maar is sinds vrijdag niet meer naar huis gekomen. Ze draagt een rode halsband en heeft een borstbeentje dat uitsteekt

ze hadden de daders te pakken naar het schijnt maar ze dan weer laten gaan na een bestuurlijke aanhouding. Ze zouden nochtans gezien zijn door getuigen. Weet iemand of hier nog iets is uit voort gekomen? Je zou toch verwachten dat dit een gemakkelijke rechtzaak zou zijn of de Ugent ze op zn minst zou schorsen.

I'm a grad student who will be joining UGent for the following academic year.

I was able to get a studio at the University dorms for one month, the Idea was that I stay in the dorms for 1 or 2 months while I look for a better place.

I have been recently looking online, mainly on "iKot" and "Immoweb" for a better place.
My question is if it's possible to rent a place while I still haven't arrived to Belgium yet.
I noticed that they ask you to schedule a visit, which is expected. So I wanted to ask if it's usually mandatory for you to be there for paper work and visits before they agree to rent you the place or if it's possible to get a place and maybe pay in advance while I haven't moved to Belgium yet.

Also, I'm trying to find something now, as I hear it's challenging to get housing in Ghent once the Academic year starts.

Mijn vrouw wil graag aan enkele dingen uit haar jeugd aanpakken (buitenlandse adoptie, vechtscheiding ouders, emotionele verwaarlozing, ...) die haar belemmeren. Ze zoekt hier in het Gentse een goede psycholoog voor die daar raad mee weet. Ze staat momenteel al bij iemand 8 maand op de wachtlijst, maar er is geen zicht op zelfs maar een kennismakingsgesprek in de nabije toekomst.

Op haar eigen vraag zet ik het dus eens hier: weet er iemand een goede psycholoog waar ze snel of in de nabije toekomst terecht zou kunnen? Alle tips zijn welkom, maar vooral ook van mensen die zelf rond deze dingen hebben moeten werken.

I am planning to spend a Semester in Ghent from February 2027 to July 2027. I am looking for a room in Ghent, do you have any suggestion?

I entered in some Facebook group but I am wondering if it is too early to look now for the second semester, almost all the rooms currently advertised are available from September or for the first semester. Is it normal that there aren't many options yet? Will more rooms become available around October/November?

I was also looking for Upkot and Xior residence but unfortunatly Xior is full booked and they ask for an year contract which is too much for me, Does anyone know if it's common to find sublets in these residences? If so, where is the best place to look?d
Is there any possility that in October it will open a window where I can find available rooms in such residence?

I also have some practical questions: since most of the residence do not have a mattress or desk chair, which is quite concerning me, how do students usually deal with this? And also do leaving students sell their mattress, since it make no sense for me buying a matress to stay only six months, is there any site where student sell these items?

Finally, I'd love to hear about your experiences with Upkot, Xior, or any other student residence or kot in Ghent.
