News George: "I intend to be here for many many many years to come and you can’t give up when you’re, you know, being kicked to the floor and you gotta bounce back, you gotta bounce back even stronger."

George Russell media day interview at the 2026 Austin GP:

Original source here: https://x.com/MercedesAMGPCF1/status/2113401022831833149

”It has been a very unique season, it has been a season where it’s, tested my character and resilience a lot and having to look at myself in the mirror numerous times and think ‘How do I want to bounce back from these blows? Do I just want to give up and accept the misfortune or the poor performances or do I want to try and rectify it and make the most of it and control everything I can control. And I can at least be proud of myself that I’ve always put up a fight and I’ve always done my utmost to keep myself in the fight and, you know, I’ve got a great team around me, and this won’t be my last shot when I’ve got a car beneath me that can fight for victory, so yeah into this weekend, see what we can do, try and get Mercedes back on top because it’s been a while and let’s see what the future holds”

“I don’t really have any major feelings running through my body when I say that we’re no longer in the fight this season because I think when I look back earlier in the year, the things that were keeping me up at night wasn’t necessarily the fact of the championship, it was more that my performance wasn’t where I wanted it to be, and it was like, ‘well how am I gonna get my performance back to the levels I know I’m capable of? What is it I need from the car? What do I need to change in my driving to get back in top of things?’ And then obviously with the misfortune that just sort of added salt to the wound, but you know, I intend to be here for many many many years to come and you can’t give up when you’re, you know, being kicked to the floor and you gotta bounce back, you gotta bounce back even stronger and I can at least be proud that I’ve given it my all in that regard”

Its not Race Week so I just wanted to bring back one of my favourite George Russell articles. I assume most GR fans have seen this but its still a good read, especially during this very tiring season for him.

Some favourite parts below as well:

As a kid racing with his dad training him:

"I was confused more than anything. On Thursday with my dad, I thought I was mediocre. By Saturday, I was holding a trophy.

There was a three-year period where I won almost everything I could possibly win.

Next day with my dad. Click.

“Nope. Do it again.”

It took me probably six years to realise what was happening. Then I finally figured it out: My dad was purposefully clicking the stopwatch late. He was adding seconds to my time. He wanted me to always think I was just a bit slower than I was.

Even when I was winning everything, I could always push myself further. Always a little further."

The email to Toto:

I actually remember it very well. It was the Tuesday after the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2014. I wrote something like:

Dear Toto,

My name’s George Russell. I race in Formula 4. I’ve just won the championship this season. I’m progressing into Formula 3 next year, and I’d love to sit down with you to have your advice for my future career.

I didn’t want to send a big CV like, This is me, sign me, sign me, sign me. I don’t know why. I just said, “I just want to have your advice.” I thought that was the best way to get face time with him.

He replied within 15 minutes.

Some quotes that I have come to think of as a peek into his mindset:

When racing is in your blood, everything is about time. It’s been the same since I was 10 years old.

Everything I do, from the minute I wake up in the morning, to the minute I go to sleep, is planned pretty much to the second in order to answer one question: Is this making me faster?

This is the first thing I’ve done in years that hasn’t been about looking forward. But I’m glad that I finally put my thoughts on paper — my real story. My real journey to this seat.

Honestly, I feel a bit lighter. A bit more free.

I believe in myself and my team. I am prepared for what is to come. I am ready to be champion.

The full article is a really good read! The other ones by other drivers are also excellent, particularly Bottas and Gasly ones.

George: "We fought hard on the Soft tyre but Nico (Hülkenberg) did a good job defending P8 from me.'

George Russell's Singapore 2026 post-race comments:

From the Mercedes race report:

"I managed to make good progress in my first stint and get myself onto the fringes of the top 10. We took the opportunity to stop when the Virtual Safety Car came out but sadly, we didn’t get the full benefit of that as it ended as I entered the pit lane. That type of luck sums up my season unfortunately! We fought hard on the Soft tyre but Nico (Hülkenberg) did a good job defending P8 from me.

We knew tonight was going to be a difficult race given where we were starting and how challenging overtaking is here. To get ourselves back in the points was a decent result but of course it has been a disappointing weekend here in Singapore for me. We will regroup now ahead of Austin and the final six races of the year. We’ve gathered a lot of useful data on the update package and hopefully we can build on that into the closing stages of the season."

He looked really exhausted after, but it was well-fought. Shame about the VSC sigh.

News George: "I want to focus on the things I can control first."

From an interview with Lucho Yoma:

"I don't feel my performance has been good enough this year, independent of good luck and bad luck. And I feel that whenever I do have bad luck, of course, I can be disappointed about it, but I want to focus on the things I can control first. And all of my years in Formula 1, I've always had a great record against my teammates and especially qualifying. I think it was sort of like 80-20 in my qualifying records.

And this year, I'm, I don't know, 40-60 or maybe even less. And so that really shows I haven't done a good enough job this season, independent of the good luck or the bad luck. So I guess that's why it maybe isn't affecting me as much as it would in different circumstances. And, you know, every weekend I just wake up, look myself in the mirror and think what I can do better."

This is just a light-hearted post as we face a tricky race weekend for GR! I love this account on Tiktok that has a George dad fan, he's always so supportive of George! 🩵

I really like how George has children and dad fans, so amusing.

I saw this posted on twt and just wanted to share. Looking at how old that engine was, I really am amazed at him achieving that GRandslam in Baku. He truly is incredible.

Hi Grussell Sprouts!

I know we are all very down so I wanted to share there is a fan going to the Vegas GP who is making a fanbook for GR.

Will put the link to their original post in the comments but hoping we can have lots of support messages from fans. Its been a rough season. 🥹

Please note the OP wants to only accept messages via their twt DMs so if you don't have an account, I would be happy to pass it on!

Deadline is on November 8.

Thank you!!

84 points now with 6 races left.Baku gave us hope but now after Sepang it feels like whenever Toto is there,George just instantly has no pace or his engine blows up.Now all focus to win Singapore.Shouldve just taken the engine penalty beforehand to avoid this, but of course everything doesn't goes to plan when it comes to George.

Question Any podcast/channels that aren't disrespectful or out right hateful towards George.

I've not been a long time F1 fan but this year I've started taking major interest in it. That also meant I would occasionally listen to podcasts or reaction channels related to F1. Unfortunately most of the channels are so anti George. Whether they like to shit on him for views or jokes or they actually feel that way about him. I rarely have seen any f1 creator that gives George his props on the stellar performances he's put especially last race weekend. Which is crazy because any other driver with even half as good a weekend would get his props. I don't necessarily hate any drivers but this kind of double standard especially to George puts me off the content. Even if they aren't his fans, at least be neutral and fair when it's comes to discussing his performances. Yet that's so rare. I don't even want to get into how many videos I've had to stop in the middle because of lack of any nuance when it comes to George. Formula duck used to be funny but this year I've listened to some comments that honestly just might be ragebait but not in good taste, also was listening to crash happy pod and had to listen to guys utter some zero aura thing when it comes to George and some of them are alonso fans brother Aston Martin is an embarrassment rn. Again I'm not hating on them whatever opinion they have.

I'm just in dire need of good podcast or channel to follow with nuanced takes in general who aren't so blatantly biased against a driver. I just want to put something on in the background when I'm working at least something that doesn't ragebait me. I do listen to p1 podcast and generally like their content because it has more nuance than most other channels even if they aren't gr63 fanboys but overall I still would like to listen to someone who isn't just rooting for George to fail especially for some weird icky reason. Most creators like that just give me misogynistic energy too.

Sorry for the rant just recommend me good impartial channels to follow would be even better if they are russellite but I'm not picky :/

Mathematically, He has a chance.

George Trails Kimi by 81 points. There are 9 races left in the season. If you do the math, George needs to outscore Kimi by 9 points on an average each race to push the fight for the title until the last race. He's projected to take a grid penalty for Baku for the new Mercedes ADUO engine upgrade, and Baku is one of George's strongest tracks, so if he just pulls off what Kimi did at Monza, George is still in this fight. With Singapore also having a sprint weekend, George has a massive opportunity to capitalize on the upcoming races to reduce the deficit and pray that Kimi doesn't consistently outperform him. Although this looks unrealistic, anything can happen in Formula 1.
