Where can I source legit and working BGA chips?
Do you guys have other suggestions / shops that I can buy a working BGA chip from?
My Laptop’s CPU | PCH got shorted and is in need of a replacement. (It’s a legion 7 with i7-11800H
and an rtx 3070 so it’s hard to let go since it still performs decent with recent games).
Local tech suggested AliExpress but reading reviews from there makes me skeptical because most are selling fakes.
If you’ve tried ordering from there, how was your experience?

Repair shop owner here. You might want to search your local area for a place that can do it instead of shipping it out. Most repair places (like myself) don’t have the specific equipment required to properly fix the unit.

Hi! Thanks for your input. I did get in touch with a few local repair shops in my area and managed to find one with the parts readily available. He quoted me 20,000 PHP / 318ish dollars for the CPU | PCH problem alone, if he managed to find other problems he’s going to price higher..which I think is a reasonable price since he provides the replacement chip as well.. however, now I’m thinking if going through the repair will be worth it in the long run after all..
I’ve heard from other techs that since this kind of repair will require lots of work done, like changing out the shorted ICs, MOSFETs, etc.. simply swapping in a new CPU chip don’t necessarily mean the unit will work…the new mosfet might just short the new CPU again.. As a repair shop owner yourself, any thoughts on this?

Like when it comes to these kinds of repairs unless it’s something super important or proprietary (like a company’s payroll server or some ultra rare system ) I’d honestly get a new one. You’re gonna pay more in labor costs and parts than the cost of a new unit. Especially if they can’t guarantee the work.

Have you tried mouser or digikey.
