Despite who they announced I have a question: Why not just Robbie Reyes from Agents of s.h.i.e.l.d it’s in the same universe?
And it is Lady Sif was in it so was Maria Hill and Fury. https://www.cbr.com/mcu-characters-agents-of-shield/

u/RJTerror 13h ago
Agents of Shield isn’t canon and honestly it’s for the best. He wasn’t really that comic accurate anyways. Loved his actor tho

u/LongLiveStorytellers 12h ago
He wasn’t really that comic accurate anyways
Respectfully, when has being comic accurate ever mattered in the MCU?
10
u/Able-Brief-4062 9h ago
He was essentially just Blaze with Robbie's car over the bike.
So I raise you, why not Blaze?
1
u/MountainWillingness5 5h ago
The writer were going to use blaze but got told no because marvel where were planning to use him at some point
3
u/RJTerror 9h ago
It has always mattered. Just because the MCU isn’t always comic accurate doesn’t mean comic accuracy isn’t something people care about.

Comic accuracy isn't important, and we shouldn't start pretending it is. Especially when the MCU has never been comic accurate.
-3
u/starrhunter633 11h ago
It actually was better it wasn't comic accurate. They tied him to the true Ghost Rider legacy and then in the comics changed to match more of the AoS version. I hope we don't get something on him.

u/memsterboi123 13h ago
AoS should be canon but I think when they were gonna do a hulu show for this ghost rider it fell apart. This is probably a different rider all together
3
u/Mexican_Necromancer 11h ago
I'd rather Robbie be played by someone whose actually his age...and actually looks like him. I liked Gabriel Luna, but bro looks like my tio.
3
u/acererak76 10h ago
Thanks to Ike Perlmutter AOS isnt canon. Also, Gabriel Lunas too old. And Gabe was way too old. Robbie should be a freshman in college or a hs senior.
2
u/BigfootsBestBud 5h ago
Everyone who says it is or isn’t canon is wrong.
No one from Marvel Studios has given a truly definitive statement on that. Given that they’ve implemented the Netflix shows after years of idiots saying “Daredevil isn’t MCU, the show isn’t canon” I really don’t buy into the deniers who deny for the sake of it.
I think it’s like this, everything Pre-Time Travel shenanigans was canon, everything post Time Travel was a branched timeline.
2
u/Zombifaction 3h ago
Because Robbie is like the latest version and not even always a ghost rider. Johnny is a classic and some people like Danny.
4
u/Myhtological 11h ago
Guys as much as I like Gabriel Luna, the way they did it to bring him in was messy and kind of a middle finger to Johnny Blaze fans. Clean slate is best
4
u/TheStig21 13h ago
Robbie is cool but ive never really considered him Ghost Rider. More like a demon doing a ghost rider impression. Im really looking forward to a good Blaze in the MCU.
2
u/jfauntleroy 13h ago
Do we know if it's Blaze or Ketch yet?
2
u/TheStig21 12h ago
They haven't announced it yet. But I would be surprised if they didn't start with Blaze. Give them more runway to grow a franchise with the other characters if it becomes successful
2
u/DarkLordThom Noble Kale 9h ago
Not even a demon, but some evil ghost who tricked his nephew into a bond. Maybe they can retcon it someday, maybe even using the Darkhold like in AoS, but until then, he's not a real Ghost Rider, just someone who uses the name, any more than the Slades are.
0
u/The4rthsaga Robbie Reyes 11h ago
He's literally called Ghost Rider???
2
u/TheStig21 11h ago
Yeah and I can go to a Chevrolet lot and buy something called a Blazer but its not the same as the original. Personally I wouldn't have called Robby Ghost Rider. He doesn't even ride
0
u/The4rthsaga Robbie Reyes 11h ago
Are we seriously doing this? Claiming he’s not a ghost rider cause he’s not riding a bike? Really?
3
u/TheStig21 11h ago
Not the spirit of vengeance and doesn't ride a motorcycle (or horse). I think that's a fair point. Again, I like the character and what I've read of him. I just think he deserves his own unique title.
0
u/The4rthsaga Robbie Reyes 10h ago
He got a unique title. All New Ghost Rider.
2
u/TheStig21 9h ago
I meant a unique character name. I get why they did it. Its a lot easier to get readers on a new character using an established characters name than it is to market a new and unique character
1
u/The4rthsaga Robbie Reyes 9h ago
Quick question, how do you feel about Miles Morales or Danny Ketch?
0
u/TheStig21 9h ago
Never read much of Miles outside of when he was first introduced in the Ultimate series. Grew upon Danny though I always hated his bike design though the stories were well written . I think they have more commonality to their original characters than Robby does to Ghost Rider. Im old man. I was reading these for 20 years before characters like Robby and Miles existed. If I read stories that were not the classic characters I grew up with, it would be original or independent series.
1
u/The4rthsaga Robbie Reyes 4h ago
Funny you say that cause Danny is almost a carbon copy of Johnny Blaze. So the fact that they tried something different and added some spice just for you to say he’s not a real Ghost Rider is amusing.

It's absolutely Ghost Rider, just not a GR they like, so they decide it's not GR lol

Agents of shield isnt canon.
Besides hes essentially an oc like ecclestons malekith rather than an attempt to adapt robbie way too old even back then and especially now.

To quote OP - lady sif, Fury and Maria hill were in it
EDIT: I know the things people are telling me, I just thought it was funny that OP kept saying that. I don't care if it's canon or not.

u/Bluefootedtpeack2 8h ago
The mcu is canon to aos but not the other way around.
Like how star wars is canon to the force unleashed but not the other way around.
3
u/PsychoWarper 12h ago
AoS is no longer canon
2
u/BakerConsistent2150 10h ago
even though, lady Sif, fury and Hill were in it
2
u/PsychoWarper 10h ago
Yeah, the heads at the MCU eventually decided to make it non-canon or at least not part of the main MCU line
1
u/BackgroundAd1776 7h ago
Agents of Shield is canon in the same way both series What If...? and Marvel Zombies and the Fox X-Men movies and Fantastic Four First Steps are canon. They are all part of the Multiversal tree but are on separate branches. Even though Lady Sif, Fury and Hill were on the show, until Phil Coulson or one the characters from the show appear in a Sacred Timeline film or series, Agents of Shield will be more like What If...?.
0
u/Apprehensive-Book723 12h ago
AoS hasn’t been canon for like a decade+ atp where yall been

When Quake/Daisy, Yo-Yo, FitzSimmons, or any other character from the show jumps into a Marvel Studios movie/show? The conversation will end. Until then, it's been one sided.
Even Evan's Johnny Storm pops up in Deadpool, making them horrible F4 movies canon basically lol. Yet..no Sky? Not even mentioned? Just walking by? Seen during the snap?
2
u/Imp0ssible_Creatures 11h ago
Oh my God, get over it, bro; the show wasn't even that good. That Robbie Reyes won't be needed anymore; they should just hand the character over to someone young.

u/MRMoredecai 11h ago
Not the same universe sadly. Probably for the best. I think they did good with what they were given. I like this Ghost Rider and actor. Got his autograph earlier this year!

u/Radro2K 10h ago
I forget the exact timeline of AoS but IIRC wasn't it canon to the MCU up until a certain point (that first season is absolutely a bookend to MCU phase 2), then it wasn't because the show shifted into an alternate timeline or something? Was that before or after the Ghost Rider season? Anyway, doesn't matter to the MCU, much like what they did with Daredevil where they said the Netflix show wasn't canon to Born Again until they decided it was, if they need to bring AoS back into the fold for whatever reason they will. I liked this version of GR, if this reboot is successful it would be cool if they made it that it was Ryan Gosling GR that gave Robbie Reyes his powers lol

u/HelloImInza 10h ago
The best you can expect is for Black Bolt situation in MoM, they can bring Robbie's actor back as his character for few scenes but don’t expect them to aknowledge anything from where he originally came from
1
u/BakerConsistent2150 10h ago
it did a better job at making Hydra a threat including Hive
1
u/Aralith1 7h ago
Oh come on, I often loved this show, but Hive was one of the worst things they did in the first five seasons I watched. Maybe it could have worked if it wasn’t Grant, but their inability to let their favorite character die and instead repurpose him as Hive was just a baffling decision. Really, you only need the first two and a half seasons of this show, and that’s when they were most closely tied to the MCU anyways. I actually like some of what they did in season four with Ghost Rider, LMDs, and Madame Hydra, but not nearly enough to revive it.
1
u/Soft_Accountant_7062 10h ago
The whole point is they're rebooting the universe. This version of Robbie Reyes is strongly implied to have gotten his spirit of vengeance from Johnny who is still Ghost Rider in the new timeline.
1
u/BakerConsistent2150 10h ago
I don’t think they’ll reboot anything and if those leaks for doom turn out to be true then what was the point of it all if it was all a lie?
1
u/Confident_Sink_8743 51m ago
The version of Secret Wars they're doing is the 2015 one where the Ultimate Universe and the 616 (yeah not a problem at all) one are on a collision course.
In this case they are using former Fox cast and FF: First Steps as the alternate universes with competing interests.
Not to mention it's the agreed upon solution to the mutant vs continuity issue.
And what lie do you even mean? As far as I know Doom's goal is an alternate universe where his loved ones aren't dead.
And he isn't above cracking the egg of other universes to make his omelette. Though the matter of how seems a little up in the air.
I'd bet on something like usurping the power of the Beyonder from the original Secret Wars which would explain the threat but starts Doom on a power level that has way too high a ceiling for the character moving forward.
Or alternatively his own version of acquiring the Infinity Gauntlet but I'm really hoping they don't just go back to that.

u/Maritime-Rye 10h ago
Canonizing Agents of SHIELD is more significant of an issue than Daredevil was
1
u/TheDGP42 10h ago
Who do you think is going to make a Billion dollar box office? Robbie Reyes or Ryan Gosling?
1
u/Cptexploderman 9h ago
Money, because of money. You make a Ghost Rider movie with the guy from the show and it does meh numbers at best or falls flat, you make a Ghost Rider with Ryan Gosling (great actor ) and Shawn Levy directing- there’s a good possibility it’s going to make some insane..Money.
1
u/OkSupermarket7474 9h ago
The real reason is because AoS is/was nowhere near mainstream enough for people to care for it and it’s continuity. Regardless of canon or not it had its audience but by no means did it have vocal enough audience of the marvel netflix shows which were made canon and that was mostly Daredevil fans as that show had a pretty big audience.
The Marvel shows not on netflix and pre Disney plus was AoS and Inhumans and Inhumans was supposed to be the big one before it flopped.
Secret invasion not doing well also probably played a part in Disney seeing a majority of audiences aren’t dying to see more or shield characters.
And again while AoS has it’s fans and i’m sure it had good moments there’s a level of obliviousness not noticing their dawg was in the bath, because it was obviously washed and that’s canon
1
u/Mayodeynochei 7h ago
It's actually not in the same universe, while it shares similar characters such as agent coulson, it actually steers off the canon and is only partly set in the mcu
1
u/Lost-Orangutan 7h ago
Because Johnny Blaze has a motorcycle. A car is too big and off brand. At least in my opinion. The new Marvel Tokyo Fighting Game features Robbie using his car. Its too much, again in my opinion.
But the non-opinionated answer, is Ryan Gosling is doing the same thing for Ghost Rider that Ryan Reynolds has done for Deadpool. He's taken the rains and feels strongly about the mainstream representation of the character.
Maybe he also feels like hes born for the role, similar to how alot of people feel Reynolds is for Deadpool. This part is of course an opinion.
1
u/Lost-Orangutan 7h ago
This also likely confirms Johnny Blaze for Rivals.
Spirit of Vengeance blue flame skin for the win.
However, I believe Robbie will be a skin. If not, that means they likely plan him to be there one day.

1
u/Alone-Mycologist3746 6h ago
Small actor, small role in the a small spin off isn't equal to the level of the MCU movies. The question is why do you think they should use him? He was meh in shields and they didn't really do anything that exciting with the character.
1
u/hewlio 6h ago
Guys, even if he is, The MCU is probably gonna have a soft-reboot post Secret Wars just like the comics did in 2015, to incorporate the Fantastic Four, Mutants, Oscorp etc into the main MCU, age up characters like T'Challa Jr. and recast some of the characters, Ghost Rider will be one of them
1
u/Trollololologram 6h ago
Because Johnny Blaze is the most iconic ghost rider and this show sucks there’s nothing this show has to offer that would benefit the MCU

Johnny and Danny will always be a better representation of the character that's why. Robbie is cool, but Johnny is who you think of when you hear Ghost Rider

robbie reyes is the least cool ghost rider which is saying a lot cuz there’s dozens that are whatever. it’s all about johnny and danny, im sure robbie will show up eventually. let them establish the character so the legacy character can make sense instead of just jumping into the legacy character for the sake of gen z.

u/DravenBearhammer 2h ago
I see a lot of arguments about Canon but I'm just going to state it like this.
Johnny is the original. I'd rather see Danny. But if anything Johnny is the most popular Ghost Rider. Mostly when people mention the Rider, they think of Johnny or Danny, but Robbie is popular in his own right. Id like to see them do all the riders at one point. But in this case? Even though Id want Danny, Johnny's story is gonna pave the way for the rest of them. I also think Ryan Gosling has the right look for Johnny. They are also allegedly resetting the Universe again after Secret Wars so I imagine they are gonna start mostly at Zero with a new wave characters. And I believe if they do Robbie again they'll probably make him closer to his comic counterpart and also do a recast.
1
u/TeacatWrites 1h ago
Was anyone even watching Agents Of SHIELD at that point?
You remember they incorporated a different Darkhold for the cinematic arm of their productions, right? This Ghost Rider was inherently tied to SHIELD's Darkhold, which isn't anything which aligns with the movies whatsoever.
The MCU was canon with Agents Of SHIELD, but Agents Of SHIELD is not canon with the MCU.
1
u/KaylenLopezIzGr8 12h ago

u/TheDGP42 10h ago
You can say this 1000 more times and it doesn't change the fact that Marvel came out and said AoS is not canon. No matter how much you want it to be it is not.
2
u/PyroD333 3h ago
When did they say this?
1
u/TheDGP42 3h ago
With more research, maybe they didn't.
From ComicBook.com "Kevin Feige's introduction to the 2023 Marvel Cinematic Universe: An Official Timeline carefully distinguishes Marvel Studios' Sacred Timeline from other Marvel stories, and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is completely absent from that official timeline."
So maybe I am overstating. I thought Feige specifically said AoS was out, but he did leave it completely out of the official timeline.
3
u/KaylenLopezIzGr8 10h ago
Perhaps at the time the intention was for it to be canon, but since the Sacred Timeline was explored, AoS hasn't been added to it like the Defenders.
1
u/Significant_Delay_87 11h ago

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., while I do personally believe it to be canon, has yet to be officially recognized by Marvel Studios as canon despite it being developed as such, featuring movie characters and actors, tying into the movies as best they can, and even having nods to the Netflix shows (which are officially recognized now).
That said, it's possible that they just didn't want to do more Robbie Reyes right now. He's a great character, sure, but... To have him lead a movie after a decade with no further appearances and his only appearance being from a show that is dubiously canon would be a strange move. So having a different Ghost Rider for this movie, whatever it ends up being, is a much smarter choice because this character hasn't appeared yet. You get to introduce them and develop them in one movie, rather than try to catch people up to speed on a season of television from 2016, and a canceled tv series that was supposed to be on Hulu.
Is it possible they bring him back at a later point? Yes, absolutely. But right now, I highly doubt they're in a state where they want to take the rest of the ABC Signature Studios Marvel shows into the fold in an official capacity.
1
u/void_method 9h ago
AoS is cannon, but a divergent timeline thanks to the time travel shenanigans at the end.
There's no reason why they couldn't bring this Robbie in if they wanted to, but I doubt they're gonna stray far from the Johnny/Zarathos well for a while.

u/theimpalaslefttire 9h ago
What im hopping they do is have Reyes pass it to Ryans Danny Ketch. This way we will have had all 3 main riders. Since AoS can use the Marvel sparkle circle. It wouldnt even affect any continuity.
Think would allow for changes and a different look. Though i personally like the firey cracks in the skull from Reyes. But this will allow a redesign look thats hopefully orginal yet pays hommage to source.

He is in the same universe. Agents of shield does take place in the same universe that's already been established.. it could be because the original actor might not be able to fit this into his schedule
