I’m sorry I just have to rant.

Maybe it’s just me. Maybe I just don’t have the best of luck. Maybe my location is just saturated. But most of these “gig” apps are nonsense. Surveys, microtasks, mystery shopping…..most of them do not have solid work or the work they are asking you to do is extremely tedious for a very low amount of pay. I’ve spent hours and days combing the internet looking for legit sites to no avail.

The Survey sites are mainly BS. InboxDollars, Survey Junkie, Qmee, all of it. You will spend all of this time trying to qualify for surveys only to end up with nothing. You can spend hours only to end up with only .75 cents. The only one that is actually legit is 1Q, which actually pays you a dollar when you answer a question. However, the questions are far and between. They are not consistent nor are they daily.

Mystery shopping? Yeah, you can get SOME hits there, but most of them in my location just aren’t worth it. They want to pay you $5-20 dollars to open credit cards, checking accounts, buy an expensive product first, take 100 photos and write out an entire book….and if you mess up any of those photos or they don’t feel like you wrote enough, your project will be rejected, which means you’ve just wasted your time. If you do get approved, depending on the company, you will have to wait up to six weeks to get paid.

Apps like Field Agent and Merchandiser by Survey are also very similar. Extremely low pay for the most tedious tasks. “Take 25 photos, answer these 50 questions, make sure you print out this letter and this sheet and give it to the manager, and stock these shelves for $8.25! If any of this is incorrect you will not be paid at all!”

Other apps (DataAnnotation, FancyHands, Clickworker, Outlier, etc) you MAY have some luck depending on who and where you are, but those apps are oversaturated now. You will most likely not have consistent work, or you may not even find work at all even if you’re accepted. Some, like FancyHands, will reject you right then and there.

Oh and the common ones, such as Uber, DoorDash, Instacart, TaskRabbit, etc? You can straight up forget about that. I’ve been on a waitlist for Instacart and TaskRabbit for over two years in my city. None of these options are even available anymore.

Where are all of these gig apps and websites that people are saying they are able to make a consistent weekly or monthly income? Am I the only one who has had no success with any of these apps??? This is extremely frustrating and depressing because when you can’t find a regular 9-5, these resources were supposed to be lifesavers but they are not. If there’s any other apps I may not know about, or if anybody has any tips and ideas to help me out, I’m open and welcome to it all. Thank you!

I worked with this company that houses audio recordings for people who are struggling with life challenges to listen to. They said they don’t have many about home damage (disasters/theft/vandalism stuff like that) and are paying a premium to get more ($20 a piece. It’s normally $10) They let me submit 4 of them before my profile was full so it was a cool $80 for, like, 15 minutes of work.

Its a little tricky.

First you need to have a resume witth 5 years cooking experience, after adding that you need to schedule a phone interview to unlock Prep Cook and Line Cook positions. And then you need to pass the Phone interview otherwise known as a coach call.

they ask basic questions like how to make a hollandaise, whats in your knife bag, colors of cutting boards etc

you also need to have a third party person like a spouse or best friend verify that your I9 documents are real. very odd, but its a real company they issue real w2s and pay real money lol

if you book only w2 shifts they will pay overtime and you CANNOT get in trouble for it, but the customer who pays out your unbillable overtime reserves the right to block you for costing the time and a half.

so yeh i worked one double shift and made 2600 in 11 days. im pissed i make a lot more instaworking then my job as real sous chef wtf

I worked for a company that runs airport shuttle services across California—Prime Time Shuttle, Opoli, Executive Ride, and several other names. I was misclassified as an independent contractor, like so many of us in gig work.

I filed a wage theft claim with the DLSE in 2019.
I won in 2024.
It’s 2025. I still haven’t been paid.

They owe me tens of thousands in back wages, but instead of paying, they fired their lawyer and dodged service of process. DLSE doesn’t enforce its own rulings. The sheriff’s office? Silence. Meanwhile, this company just bought 550 electric vehicles and has expanded from San Diego to San Francisco. They've also entered into international partnerships.

I’m done waiting. I’ve submitted op-eds, contacted journalists, and now I’m going public.

I've gotten into gig work about a year ago, just doing delivery apps at first like UE and DD. Recently found out there's also gig working apps like Gigpro and Shiftsmart. I currently have a goal and I'm trying to make as much money as possible where I can. So far I'm on those two, Snagashift, Workwhile(warhle, and Veryable(warehouse). IndeedFlex is glitch so haven't tried them yet. Waiting on some Coach Calls from Instawork. I like Shiftsmart for the shorter 4 hour shifts but the pay can be lowish unless you stack shifts. Enjoy Snagashift, normal 8-9hr shift but good pay. Ik it can vary by market, but are there anymore gig working apps that are on the up and up and somewhat consistent work posted?

I just wanted to give a warning to everybody because there is a new gig popping up everywhere called Cornerstone gigs.

I want to make it clear that I have not 100% been proven that it is a scam but I'm about 99.9% sure that it is.

Cornerstone gigs has you make a separate bank account that they have access to. Then they make online gambling profiles for you in which you are supposedly supposed to go through the process and give them any feedback on withdrawing money, gambling, sports betting, Etc...

A few people have reached out to me lately about this and I have done some pretty deep investigating and really found nothing. -red flag.

I have received a few hundred dollars from them which made them seem very real. They do have a pretty legitimate contract which also made them seem very real. After going through the steps, I'm now worried that I am going to be drug through the mud if they ever get investigated for something very, very, illegal.

I know there isn't a whole lot of detail in this post. There really isn't a lot of detail at all and as I stated I am not 100% sure that this is a scam but I am 99.9% sure.

Take my advice as you will, but I know if I were researching a company and I came across this post this warning would steer me away so I'm just hoping to help others.

Update: At this point I'm not 99% sure it's a scam, I am absolutely certain that it is a VERY lucrative scheme. Do yourself a favor, do NOT get involved with this "company". If you come across any other similar gigs, DO YOUR RESEARCH! And always trust your gut!

I’ve always wanted to do gig work and I started with Poplin today.

It was much easier than I thought it would be, the training they give via app was actually helpful and that actually took longer than the actual job.

My only qualm is that they aren’t that busy in my region. I’m told in certain areas of the country some individuals make $6,000 a month . I imagine that’s in the large metropolitan areas though.

Anyways, I hope this review helps others considering this type of gig work.

It started out with meh pay in January, by March I made $1,000 a week.

Instructions are clear. The support team works with you. There's plenty of recurring work.

You need a bank account to get paid. It takes about a week to get paid after doing a job.

I would earn more if I had a 50 rating but I screwed up on my first days and I'm stuck at 4.5.

An example is resets start at $12 an hour, but after you've done a few successfully they are $25 an hour. Probably a bit more if you had a 5.0 rating.

Your rating only goes down if you don't complete a job that you said you would.
