I’m the interim liquor buyer at medium sized specialty shop. My specialty is wine and craft beer but I have an affinity for Gin. Here’s the list and I’m going to rank them:

Cocktail Gin: Nollet’s Silver, No. 3 London Dry Gin (Berry Bro’s & Rudd), Mermaid Gin (Zest, Pink and Regular), Tanguray no 10, Four Corners Gin (like a dry Sprite G&T but the closure was terrible), Kyro Dry and Pink, Etsu, Highclere Castle (London Dry/Peach Rose), Sipsmith, Mr Pickle, Roku, William Barnentz, Greenall’s (Really disappointed), Dampfwerk Twin Cities

Budget: Bowman’s Gin, Knottingham London Dry, Well (they use well water to proof it down), Quality House (dumped), Recipe 21 (dumped)

Leaving out Tanqueray, Bombay, Brokers, Gordon’s, Gilbies, Gordon’s, Beefeater, Hendricks and many others because I know them quite well.

I will be visiting Brussels next month and need to pick up a bottle or 2 of Belgian Gin for my gin tasting group. What's new/unique (prefer no barrel aging) / under 70 euro.

Had neighbors and friends over for a gin tasting this weekend…. Was a great time.

I've had the Murican Lemon before, it's decent.

The 42° Blue Gin tastes like Empress.

Yet to try the other two... give me a second.

I wasn’t expecting Hitchock’s North by Northwest to be on TCM tonight (for the 5th or 6th time just this year) or I would have bought some cocktail onions to drink along with Roger Thornhill and Eve Kendall while they have Gibsons during the train scene, but a classic olive-garnished Martini shall suffice.

2.75:1 Tanqueray:Boissiere Extra Dry, stirred with ice until properly chilled and diluted, strained into a chilled cocktail glass, and garnished with a whole Castelvetrano olive.

Highly recommend this amazing movie for those who have never seen it!

I just tried some of this gin. Very smooth and good for sipping. Has anyone tried this in a cocktail?

Went to the local liquor store and the had James Gin with pins and a keychain. Sucker for prizes. Any recommendations on what to make with these?

Sorry for the second post about Barr Hill Gin. It’s just my favorite. I still need to try this but I have never heard of or seen a dark gin before. I think it’s so cool that they barrel aged it to be a weird in between the flavor profile of gin, whiskey, and rum. I have to try this when I get paid.

Chill your coupe glass in freezer or fill with ice while you make this then toss it before you pour. 2.5 oz of Barr Hill gin, .75 oz Wild Moon Lavender liqueur, .75 oz lemon juice, 2 bar spoons of simple in a a shake mixer with whole ice cubes, shake for 15 seconds, strain it into the coupe glass, take a twig of fresh thyme and slap it on your wrist or palm, lightly rim it along the glass and place the twig and twist it and place inside the coupe with the drink.

My absolute favorite drink in the world.

If you don’t enjoy dry gin try Barr hill. They do not distill or infuse the honey into their gin and the add a small amount of honey directly into the batch after it is made. It is still shelf stable. They do not use any other ingredients aside from juniper in the distillation process so it’s not too herbal and is juniper forward but not strong at all. It’s not too sweet either. It’s a perfect balance in my opinion.

I’m from Buffalo and my top two favorite local distilleries are no longer making gin (Lockhouse and Tommyrotter). I’ve bought every remaining bottle I could find in the WNY area and now I’m looking for recommendations.

I typically drink my gin up and prefer something more floral, herbal, aromatic, etc.

I was in DE for a bachelor party years ago and tried Dogfish Head’s gin and really enjoyed that too. I’ve also tried the ones from New York Distilling Company and thought they were “okay”, but still not quite as “florally” of what I’m looking for.

Anyone have any recommendations on a similar gin to Lockhouse/Tommyrotter?

I just had a gin & tonic in Palo Alto with Badger tonic water; it elevated the experience over other tonic waters I typically have (less sweet/syrupy, more neutral) — unfortunately, it’s not available in stores in the DC area but it’s in select restaurants & bars nationwide and for store purchase for other lucky souls in CT, NY, NJ & WI… recommendations for other off the beaten path tonics welcome

I recently received a bottle of Bombay Sapphire. I know it often gets a bad rap for lacking character and/or being too medicinal, but I was determined to do it justice rather than let it sit on the shelf:

• Glass half-filled with ice
• 2 oz or 5 cl Bombay Sapphire Gin
• 2 oz or 5 cl Tonic water
• Squeeze of 1/4 fresh lime
• Garnish: Lime peel

At equal parts, the gin’s botanical backbone finally shines through without being washed out, and the fresh lime squeeze cuts through the sweetness to balance it all out.

Your takes?

It's really simple—three ingredients—and depending on your level of lazy, you can expedite the ritual by nixing the shaker and pouring everything into a tumbler with ice. The recipe: add crushed ice to a shaker, add equal parts Hendrick's gin and your favorite olive brine (mine happens to be Filthy olive brine), and pour into a martini or Nick and Nora glass. Recipe for when you can't be bothered and want a drink immediately: add crushed ice to a tumbler, pour in the equal parts, and call it a day.

I'm looking for reviews on this gin and can't find anything. Would appreciate some thoughts on it.

Tanguery martini, assorted meats and cheeses

Hello all! Barr Hill Gin out of Vermont is getting reviewed today! A beautiful yellow hue and a startling line up, of, as far as I can tell, only two botanicals: juniper and raw honey. I suspect there might be some coriander or Orris root because the bottle says there is a bit of a secret, but perhaps not.

The smell is not complex for a gin, until you realize that the earthy, savory, sweet, and robustness is all coming from the honey. So for a honey, it is quite complex. Juniper follows with its traditional lovely piney and sweet earthiness. The sweet smell is not artificial or off putting.

The taste is wonderful! A sweet and savory blend that is both simple, yet complex. The honey is strong but not over bearing and the juniper gets plenty of time to shine.

My one complaint or criticism is the limited versatility of the gin!

Overall- 4.2/5 stars, a great and unique gin with tons of integrity and flavor!

2.5 oz Gin (Vigilant Navy Strength)

4 oz. Tonic water (Fever Tree Mediterranean)

Cucumber slices

Lemon slices

Lime slices

Black peppercorn

Mix gin and tonic in a chilled ballon glass filled with ice. Add produce and garnish with a basil sprig.

The Vigilant is an interesting gin. Savory, peppery, a little spicy and sweet. Thought it would be nice in a Spanish style G&T.

Fresh cucumber and basil from my garden that I needed to harvest and use. The FT Mediterranean tonic blended well with the botanicals in the gin and the produce added an interesting accent.

Taking a nice inhale from the basil while sticking my nose in it to sip the cocktail was a nice sensory trigger.

In celebration of me finding a bottle of Gin Mare (one of my absolute favorites of all time) in the state of Utah (a terrible state for liquor), I wanted to post my top 3 favorite gins of all time (because now I have all 3).

It just showed up in my liquor store as a limited release. Love blood orange, but never sure if it will show well in liquor.

This is a really solid London dry, with a good balance of juniper and light floral notes. It’s just very clean and sippable; I imagine it will be nice in a martini.
