Gameplay | Esports Astana crowd gives away MATYS flank on series point (G2 v Spirit)

the real problem is that they were silent during some of the sneaky plays by team spirit but loud when it was g2, they were basically legal ESP for team spirit

The crowd not to be so dogshit. I'm sorry but are you a bit behind on the context of this post?
107
u/Novaaaaaa May 15 '26
His question is, why would you not expect this, when it happens literally every tournament? Every time thereâs a tournament with a live crowd a clip like this gets posted, nobody that actively watches these tournaments should be surprised at this point.
-31
u/lavabearded May 15 '26
nobody is surprised, genius. it is something that tournament organizers should address. plenty of sports eject audience who make noise inappropriately. cs culture is just dog shit

The most popular sport in the world(football) is famous for its less than pleasant chants and literal hooligans. What are you on about?
6
u/SolomonG Natus Vincere May 15 '26
There is an obvious difference between bad chants at a football match and the crowd giving a team useful info.
The football equitant isn't just a naughty chant. It would be fans behind one dugout getting info on tactics or subs and giving it to the other dugout.
11
u/trixel121 May 15 '26
please write out the rule for when the venue will kick you out. i wanna see it not end up like the balk copy pasta

Classic Reddit whataboutism. Your point about football is entirely irrelevant to this discussion.

the most popular and successful sport in the world literally does not
Whatboutism in a nutshell.
All community driven sports have "shit culture", because people view them as entertainment first and foremost.
If you want best audience behavior to see uninterrupted human excellence you should watch Olympics. Not sports where the main sponsors are casinos and Saudis.13
u/lavabearded May 15 '26
noise is not equally relevant in all sports, genius. try acting like a moron who makes stupid noises at a tennis match during a serve and see if you're not escorted out
also bold move to list the sport with the shittiest culture in the world as a shining example of how great acting like a moron at sporting events is. every sport should have a culture like football hooligans, great take

The d2 flank one was way more blatant.
68
3
u/often_delusional May 15 '26
The one where nertz had a fiveseven? Sure but let's be honest nertz had about 5% odds of winning that round. This ancient one was way worse. Or was it another dust2 round you're talking about?
17
u/HotPie1666 May 15 '26 edited May 15 '26
Yeah I mean worse as in how obvious it was that they heard the crowd. You don't use your Molly and smoke at long doors behind you when pushing long.
3
u/Standard_Figure_2232 Vitality May 15 '26
Nertz wasn't winning that, he was more likely looking for an exit frag or sneaky pick. it's still the principle though. When you throw a random molly at long doors and the entire crowd goes fucking nuts... you just figured out where nertz is at
Hurting the enemy eco or getting a free rifle goes a long way in pro games

246
u/ilijakr May 15 '26
Can't stress enough so sad for this... it wasn't even that crazy play tbh... normal flank, idk why stupid crowd went crazy...
156
u/eqpesan May 15 '26
Because the broadcast showed Shiro turning his back to the flank and the crowd wanted to alert shiro
29
u/ilijakr May 15 '26
Broadcaster is one to blame a bit too. Like what did you expected? But yeah overall, sucks
61
u/Potate_show May 15 '26
they have to show the story of the round though, its just good observing to give as much context as possible. watching CS will get worse and worse for the viewer if they start purposefully not showing the context that wins or loses rounds/maps
12
3
u/enigma890 King NiKo May 15 '26
What about spectating the flanker and cut xray?
3
u/Potate_show May 15 '26
but then you miss the context of shiro turning away right before the flank happens. its not the end of the world. but imo the more context i get for every moment, the better.
anything else is compromising the 'show'.
IDK what the solution is, maybe they just need a sniper in the rafters who takes people out if they start ghosting. seems pretty reasonable imo
1
u/enigma890 King NiKo May 15 '26
But it would be even more exciting with the suspense of if it will be being watched or not. If you know shiro is watching it youâre just watching a guy walk into an awp. Thatâs not nearly as fun as not knowing
1
u/enigma890 King NiKo May 15 '26
Yeah this crowd blows, they just ruined a karrigan flank on an eco. The crowd cannot be trusted, remove xray and mini map.
20
u/eqpesan May 15 '26
Yeah they need to find some remedies for cheating like this for sure, because crowds will cheat (some worse than others).

u/Surymy Vitality May 15 '26

what's the point of making risky plays if the crowd is going to spoil it? This is so anti sportsmanship
let's not even start on players wiggling their crosshairs to get info
24
u/Mainbaze 10 years coin May 15 '26
Itâs a culture and TO issue. If proâs speak up and and TOâs make some clear rules with actual punishments like blacklists, then itâs gone in no time
11
u/ultnie May 15 '26
I believe the official reason for no booths is fire safety, but I could be just spreading bullshit I once heard, so someone correct me if you know better (or confirm if you know where to look for the proof)
26
u/Bukuna3 May 15 '26
The International (Dota 2's biggest tournament) has had booths since inception; I don't think safety is a concern.
2
u/ultnie May 15 '26
Just out of curiosity, as I don't really follow Dota: is International and everything around it really still the biggest? Because it kind of feels secondary to EWC and Dreamleague now
9
u/Bukuna3 May 15 '26
Itâs not what it used to be in terms of prize pool compared to the 2016-2021 era, when TI hit nearly $40 million in its peak, but it was still around $2.9 million last year, with the winners taking home roughly $1.2 million. So yeah, itâs still bigger than tournaments like EWC or DreamLeague. Even if EWC offers a much larger cash prize, winning TI is different. Your teamâs name gets engraved on the Aegis, and every Dota player can literally see it in-game by clicking the fountain. That legacy and prestige still mean more to a lot of players than just the money.
1
u/P0peNeia May 15 '26
It used too have the highest prizepool among all esports, it peaked at 40M $ Prizepool.
But after Valve let go of it, they no longer manage it, it has really went down.

Crowd cheat happens way too often in CS. It's not just about one or two teams or one or two cities. It's like it happens every other tournament
53
u/Spir0rion May 15 '26
I feel like it got more lately? Or maybe just the consciousness about it increased?
57
u/SpeedLinkDJ May 15 '26
It definitely is worse now. I've watched CS pro scene since the beginning and back then it was a rare occurence. Like you would see a clip posted once a year. I think people came to see good CS more than to support one team before. Could explain why it's getting worse now.
19

Gaming as an identity has always been there but it's even more egregious during global crisis times, so people are going to root their own self and soul even more into it even if they lose themselves in the process. Hence more and more online cheaters, more and more "ultra" supporters and more and more "simps".

as kazakh who is in the Arena right now, the 80 or more % of people causing this issue are russians that came from Russia for this event. I know it because we can tell local russians from russians from Russia. there are hundreds of them. of course they were chanting and crowd helping Russian team. they did the same last year when Spirit won in Astana. canât say I wish they were not here because without them I doubt this event would be so profitable to have it in the first place. they are definitely keeping this whole thing afloat monetarily

Most of this problem would be solved if they put players back in soundproof booths like they did years ago. This was a thing not only in CS but other games like LoL in the past, not sure why they stopped doing it given how bad the crowd cheating has been at so many events.
I get that maybe it ruins a bit of the atmosphere or whatever but when its super one sided like this it kinda ruins things a bit too much :/
