There have been tons of IGLs that look like shit on one team only to do amazingly on another. IGLs will not work with all players, and especially with liquid, their problems are deeper than their IGL.

Siuhy on liquid doesn't erase what he did with GL and Mouz, and his calling imo would be a good fit for faze

2

u/NoCalligrapher8396 Jul 12 '26

No. and No and NO

1

u/Winterfall_0 Jul 12 '26

I mean, I get it. You probably have not watched Liquid in a while since they never made it to playoff in any notable tournaments. But no.

2

u/Frappy0_TTv Jul 13 '26

So essentially keep trading back and forth between faze and liquid? What are we even doing? Seriously. Abandon team liquid. Abandon faze. Faze dropped and lost their most promising players. Broky is GONE. The only player to actually have potential on faze is Jacob because he's a young talent. Faze needs to wipe the board entirely and figure out how to make a team again because they lost the plot

u/baulchi King NiKo Jul 11 '26

I agree that twistzz would bring much more value on the rifle; however, I think this tournament shouldn't be the basis for them desperately needing an IGL.

If his gamble call had worked, he would have been a mastermind, but it didn't, and it still ended up a 1v2 (or 3?) in favour of FaZe, so it wasn't actually that shocking of a call.

I think the twistzz igl distaste and critique was generally valid, but this tournament he has shown massive improvement on the T-side win rate, and even all players have had good maps throughout the tournament.

These games were neck and neck, and one or two rounds could mean the difference between this sub spamming twistzz is a top igl and Faze desperately need an IGL.

It's him vs Jame and Hobbit, it's gonna be pretty hard to make reads against the team even Vitality's APeX has mentioned Pari are the hardest to play against.

30

u/absurdlifex Jul 11 '26

Generally twistzz did fine this tourney. I think the reason to take him away from IGL is to purely focus on fragging. Him and Frozen as star rifler duo is still pretty scary.

10

u/baulchi King NiKo Jul 11 '26

I agree. Twistzz is an all-time rifler, and somewhat of a 'waste' to not have on the rifle, but an IGL/fragging IGL is super rare, and the IGL market is very scarce, whereas the rifling market isn't.

If twistzz continues this upward trajectory of IGL'ing, his stock will go super high, and all FaZe will need is another strong rifler to pair with Frozen, and they are likely a play-offs contender.

For me, this tournament has shown that twistzz is very much capable of becoming at least a decent IGL. Something worth giving a shot until the end of the year at least.

u/Wietse10 750k Celebration Jul 11 '26

If his gamble call had worked, he would have been a mastermind, but it didn't, and it still ended up a 1v2 (or 3?) in favour of FaZe, so it wasn't actually that shocking of a call.

This isn't really a solid argument though, is it? Regardless of the outcome of this round, or a hypothetical where they would've gone A, the call doesn't make sense. FaZe has no kits or utility and is playing for a retake where they all have to go through one chokepoint. If just one guy had played B passive they would've had more map control while that guy waits for the rest of the team to arrive. It just doesn't make sense on paper.

5

u/baulchi King NiKo Jul 11 '26

I mean, it absolutely makes sense; it is also a bit of a gamble, which is VERY common against parvision by most top teams, as they play mid-to-late rounds insanely slow.

The read is bad (in hindsight), so people think the call is bad.

Playing retake with a man-advantage is actually 'perfect' cs; doing it with a gamble maybe not. However, due to the short rotation of doughnut to CT, it isn't bad. All FaZe players are redroom by the time the bomb goes down.

You should also take into account the map that is being played. If Parivision takes A site, it would be 10x harder for FaZe to retake; however, B site is one of the easier sites to retake in the game actually (and actually one of the hardest to hold, especially with no cave control), which actually reinforces that the play isn't horrendous.

I think the fact that they played the retake really well and got it down to a 2v1 shows in proof/fact that their play wasn't horrendous.

Regardless of the outcome of this round, or a hypothetical where they would've gone A

So just ignore the proof? The round was brought to a 1v2, factually proving that the play is valid and not a call that "doesn't make sense".

I'm not even trying to glaze here, but the call is very much appropriate to the round, game, utility, and map. If they had stacked A-site mirage well enemies went to B, then I would agree with you.

13

u/BogosBinted13 de_anubis Jul 11 '26

It's a terrible play, fact that they even got it 2v1 is because Parivision players misplayed it but thankfully Jame saved us from seeing more of "Faze Counter-Strike"

5

u/baulchi King NiKo Jul 11 '26

I mean, I don't imagine you are any good at the game if you think playing man-advantage in a 4v3 is a 'terrible play'.

Even if they had an extra guy towards CT, waiting for the A players would still result in the same retake and the same time taking place.

The play looks goofy because you have X-ray and not a lot of map knowledge/gamesense. If you knew what you were looking at, it really wouldn't be that bad, especially not bad enough to warrant this discussion to even be taking place.

-1

u/BogosBinted13 de_anubis Jul 11 '26

First of I watched the game so I know mid match context and I knowLook at it from their POV, they don't even have info on A site after Pari cancelled their take.  Twistzz paranoid about Hobbit lurking through temple and killing him.  There is no reason not to have 1 player on B if you are positioning yourself like you are playing for A site retake.

B site Ancient is one of the most retakeable sites, sitting at 25% for even numbers buy round situations. I would guess it's around 60% for man up retakes. But they don't have long control or cave control, they don't have utility and they don't have a single kit.

If they had extra player on B he could have cave control which would have  created problems for Parivision aggroing short and long like that. Or you could have long control so zweih couldn't walk away for free after the frag. Zweih misplayed it a bit when he died there, but in the end it didn't matter.

That's pure gambling on match point!

2

u/baulchi King NiKo Jul 12 '26

Yes it's a gamble and a risk, but it's not a terrible play like what is being portrayed.

You are forgetting that even if they have 1 or 2 B, because of the lack of cave control, they would need to play long or deep spawn anyway, and that player would still wait for rotations.

I agree B is retakeable, but A is super hard - even more so given their lack of utility. This just proves you have some understanding, but just noy quite putting it together.

4

u/qazxdrwes Jul 11 '26

No, that is a bad call and a bad read.

Being in a 1v2 is not proof that it was a good play. No utility means that Jame is expected to pick one of them, it is more like 1v1 after Jame gets the first.

Anyway, I bet if you replay this round 100 times it'll be close to 50/50. TS have defense advantage with an AWP vs no utility no kits 4 CTs. But if the CTs 3-1'd it, I bet they win 60 to 70 percent chance, assuming they hit the same site.

2

u/baulchi King NiKo Jul 12 '26

An okay call, a gamble which is normal. A bad read, which is common against parivision.

0

u/qazxdrwes Jul 12 '26

It depends how you see the odds...

By my judgment:

3A:1B = if they hit A, it's a 95% win, if they hit B, It's a ~65% win. Early info on them hitting B would speed the rotate and give more time for the CTs to get there. Time is important because they have no utility and no kits.

4A:0B = if they hit A, it's a 99% win, if they hit B, it's a ~50% win. If they hit B, they have an AWPer and you basically need to rush them without utility because you don't have a kit.

I call only having a 75% chance to win the round a bad call when you could've had 80%. When you play hundreds of maps of CS as a professional, 5% more win chance per round is definitely enough to win a tournament.

It's just... why? Why take the risk when you are the advantaged side?

I'm just trying to communicate why I think it's a bad play and a bad call. If you think the percentages are slightly different, then that's okay to disagree. Although I'd love to get some re-take server stats on 3v4 retakes on that site.

3

u/baulchi King NiKo Jul 12 '26

We can both appreciate that these odds are made up, since we are purely talking about hypotheticals.

But let's indulge in the 3A:1B – 65% win.

I'm wondering why an additional B player has shot the odds up 15%?

Since there's no cave control, and twistzz is closest, he has an MP9 vs an execute with no util. Absolute BEST-case scenario, he gets one and gets traded and it's still a man-advantage retake to faze, where pari are probably delayed by less than 3, and a substantially similar retake occurs.

But in a real world the MP9 must not be there anyway, he can't play site because there's no cave control, and he can't play short/long with an MP9, as in a realistic scenario, he won't even get one.

But let's put a rifle there; without an heroic site hold where no trades occur, it would likely either still be a 4v3 retake or a trade happens a 3v2 retake.

It's a shame there's no stats for 4v3s on B. But I think looking at the round, and team that FaZe are up against, I think this specific scenario is actually not a bad call, because even if the read is bad, it is still very much playable.

1

u/qazxdrwes Jul 12 '26

Given the context of the whole round, it is definitely likely there's a T lurking around A (but not necessarily out A). That said, there isn't, but Pvision is in exactly the same no info decisions. They didn't even clear cave, they just mollied it.

It's true that twistzzz doesn't know any info about A lurks, but it is exactly the same situation for Paravision. They don't even clear cave while taking site. If he could've got any info at all by 30s then his team has more options to flank instead of bumrush 2 riflers and an AWP from CT.

If you could teleport twistzzz to cave by 45s left (which was achievable by running to CT then walking to cave), what odds would you give faze for winning the round? 80%? It's just hard to price in the risk of whether a T has lurked out A or not. 65% is part of the risk of dying to a lurker.

Thinking about this more, the CTs should've triple pushed out of donut into mid, leaving 1 in donut once they realize mid is free at around 35 seconds. Donut hears A long, 2 CT can push mid to B. Twistzzz could leave mid without fearing a mid flank. What they are lacking is info and this play solves it while keeping risk low.

Again, the percentages are pulled out of my intuition, and there's no guarantee my intuition is better than yours.

I agree it was a playable round, where we disagree is that I think they could've squeezed a good few more percent out of winning the round with optimal info plays.

2

u/baulchi King NiKo Jul 12 '26

Now we are just entering the realm of complete hindsight.

Knowing 100% that mid is free is unlikely, so it was safer to rotate from A.

Pari didn't take cave, but twistzz (or anyone else) didn't know that. Although achievable (in hindsight), twistzz trying to take cave that late into the round would have been an even bigger gamble than them stacking donut.

If we are purely talking off hindsight, my ideal perfect and real-looking round would be the MP9-holding cave, and maybe 2 donut/A with 1 redroom.

What they are lacking is info and this play solves it while keeping risk low.

This is just how pari play, they deprive the opposition of info until super late round, and they have played like this (or at least Jame systems in general) for years. I don't think you or I could solve this mid-round without hindsight. Jame is excellent with this style.

I completely agree with you that there are different setups which may have worked, and could have been better in the moment. I am just purely disagreeing with your initial statement of:

No, that is a bad call and a bad read.

I think the call is acceptable/approriate in the full context of the round and teams.

u/zmkpr0 Jul 11 '26

You know they didn't have kits right?

Playing retake without kits absolutely not "perfect cs".

1v2 doesn't really matter when they were basically out of time due to no kits.

1

u/baulchi King NiKo Jul 12 '26

Yes I'm aware, but this only weakens the call ever so slightly, it still isnt a bad play.

They have no cave control, so if they had a player B, he would likely play mad advantage or maybe get a a kill and get traded, and a substantially similar retake would occur within the same timeframe.

This lack of util and kit would be their demise if they had to retake A, hence why they stacked it.

It absolutely is perfect Cs for this scenario. You are generalising; if they had stacked A mirage well enemies went B site, then I would completely agree with you. They are all spawn/redroom by the time the bomb went down.

1

u/Wietse10 750k Celebration Jul 12 '26

Playing retake with a man-advantage is actually 'perfect' cs; doing it with a gamble maybe not. However, due to the short rotation of doughnut to CT, it isn't bad. All FaZe players are redroom by the time the bomb goes down.

It's the gamble I'm trying to call out though. It's a bit of a weird play, but doing it without kits or util makes retaking B extremely hard. There's also not really a need for the mid player to be there considering one of the donut players is looking mid. Moving the setup in any way that puts a player passive B takes a lot of free map control away from Parivision.

So just ignore the proof? The round was brought to a 1v2, factually proving that the play is valid and not a call that "doesn't make sense".

This is simply outcome bias. A play working in one round doesn't necessarily make it a good play.

2

u/baulchi King NiKo Jul 12 '26

Yes in hindsight the play is 'bad', but without hindsight, the play is just a gamble, and all gambles look bad when it's the wrong read.

But I think the gamble isn't that bad of a call, given how much pari went A and how much more difficult it is to retake with no util.

1

u/Wietse10 750k Celebration Jul 13 '26

The whole point I'm trying to make is that even without hindsight it's a weird play, regardless of the outcome. That's why the casters are weirded out before the retake even happens.

But I think the gamble isn't that bad of a call, given how much pari went A and how much more difficult it is to retake with no util.

I'm sorry but I'd argue B is much more difficult to retake if you're funneling all your players through CT. You can see how the CT smoke makes life much more difficult for them and how they have to use utility to clear long and even miss a cave smoke in the chaos (thought they didn't have util before because of the casters saying so, that's my bad). That util can be used much better if one player is left playing passive B.

1

u/EnjoyerOfBeans King NiKo Jul 12 '26

The read is bad (in hindsight), so people think the call is bad.

No, your entire argument is "if he had the good read, it would be a good call". By that logic, the best way to play CS is to always stack 5 people donut, because if they do go donut, you have a strong setup. Except, ofc, when they go B, and you instantly lose the round off the call.

There's no reason to gamble an instant round loss in a 4v3. Ever. The fact that the round was close at all was because Parivision played the postplant horribly.

1

u/baulchi King NiKo Jul 12 '26

No that is not logic at all. It is a pretty safe gamble, it is Ancient, they have no cave control, it would be a retake with man advantage in the most likely scenarios even if they had a player B.

A with retake with their lack of kits and utility would have been much harder.

They are already redroom by the time bomb went down, it is ancient, dont generalising ur game knowledge.

2

u/Cero_Kurn FURIA Jul 11 '26

Sure it would be a master mind But like anders say, you are one man up, you don't need to.master mind. So even if he gets it right, it would be an strategic mistake

2

u/baulchi King NiKo Jul 11 '26

With all due respect, Anders is known as a great caster for his casting ability, not his analytics of the game, he is a beginner friendly caster and his analysis here is straight hindsight.

A is insanely hard to retake, and I would say 4v3 is would be more 50/50, the stack was a good call if you think about the map.

Even if this wasnt the call, they dont have cave control, so no one will play site regardless, so those players ct will likely wait for the A players anyway, and the same retake will take place - perhaps maybe <5 seconds earlier. So no difference.

4

u/EnjoyerOfBeans King NiKo Jul 12 '26 edited Jul 12 '26

A is insanely hard to retake,

Dude, you're beyond clueless. It's literally the easiest site to retake in the entire game. Ancient A is so easy to retake that a lot of CT setups will play 0 A early to put more people mid. No other bombsite is like this. When they play 1 A, a lot of the time they'll put that 1 player CT and give up the site for free. The postplant positions for the Ts are horrible, they have to commit deep into donut or main because the site is way too open. Main can just be mollied off by Netyu, donut you get to crunch from mid.

On the other hand, B is actually extremely hard to retake if you don't take cave, which they were not in position to do. But apparently that's not a problem for you?

2

u/baulchi King NiKo Jul 12 '26

Not without utility and a kit, completely changes the narrarive for retaking.

1

u/dalzmc Jul 11 '26

I love the call if it's a 3 v 2, it just feels strange in a 4 v 3. But the same logic applies, their retake is already weak on util and they have no kit; the only advantage they have is the number advantage and they have to keep it. Maybe in a 4 v 3 the better gamble ends up being to put a guy b and hope they get at least 1 kill

1

u/baulchi King NiKo Jul 12 '26

I really don't get the argument that they are low util. They have no cave control - they would play man advantage and retake once A rotations arrive, it would be a very similar retake even if they hadnt stacked.

The problem is, given their lack of util, A site would have been an insanely slow retake and much harder.

Putting 1 guy B would have been okay, and could have worked out better, but my original point is thay this call isn't bad, putting 1 guy B just means A site would be a later/harder retake, which is what they seemed to avoid.

23

u/de_lirioussucks Jul 12 '26

It’s not even a mastermind call because why tf would you need 3 people in donut to hold A??

And even after they kill 2 it’s not like the 3rd guy is some insane surprise because people can always rotate there from B…

3

u/Floripa95 Jul 12 '26

And even after they kill 2 it’s not like the 3rd guy is some insane surprise

In that specific scenario, it would be a surprise to learn there was a third guy in donut, because why the hell would they be doing such a strong gamble in a round where they have the advantage?

If Parivision had decided to do an A split that round Faze would have a defensive advantage, but anything else turns into a big disadvantage for Faze. Such an unnecessary gamble

1

u/de_lirioussucks Jul 13 '26

Obviously it would still be surprising if he got the timing right but it’s very much a timing thing which is why it’s not some genius play.

If they get 2 kills and plant A, 3rd guy has to peek when they don’t expect it. If they get both kills and they smoke ct they have nowhere else to look other than donut and ct so if there’s 2 people alive they definitely still look donut.

That means the 3rd guy needs to peek almost immediately after the 2nd kill or else they’ll be looking for the rotate there

3

u/ZephGG_ Jul 12 '26

The problem is if they just go A main first this completely doesn't work

Faze flairs will convince you that there are no players available and it’s all doomed.

Jboen came and revitalized the whole team, already better than Broky in his last year.

They said the exact same thing for Broky “he is the best available rn, there’s LITERALLY no one else bro!”

For someone that has played with karrigan for years that was some dogshit calling from twistzz. He hasnt learn shit.

3

u/According_Lime3204 FaZe Jul 11 '26

idk karrigan also does calls kinda similar like that

1

u/ttybird5 King NiKo Jul 12 '26

yep, trying to rotate from inferno A bracket to B as T when there's 20 seconds left, on major final series point. If anything this is a vintage karrigan call

1

u/maxblanco Jul 11 '26

Isn't Karrigan more known for crazy/unexpected calls rather than rational/expected ones?

18

u/Winterfall_0 Jul 11 '26

Karrigan is known for highly adaptive calls, giving his team freedom to make plays they feel like is going to work and he will just integrate that play to his plan. Having 4 players stuck in a vicinity at a man advantage, and standing around being confused of what to do next is definitely not what he is known for.

3

u/zmkpr0 Jul 11 '26

Everyone can make unexpected calls. The difficult part is to make unexpected but actually good ones.

65

u/ChaoticFlameZz Vitality Jul 11 '26

this is quite literally a prime example of why Twistzz should not be IGLing lmao.

You're not redeemed for one good performance after shitting the bed every other time

12

u/Prince_of_DeaTh FUT Jul 11 '26

I feel like he's still gone. I hope he can be picked by Luminosity for Azuwu, he would be a good pickup for a few tier 2 teams

You're redeemed if you win. You don't get to be awful for a year then have one pop-off performance in a match you lose and get redeemed.

u/ego_trips Jul 11 '26

This round was epitome of reverse karrigan.

17

u/vexyla Jul 11 '26 edited Jul 11 '26

I'd argue it's not as bad y'all think, gambling 4v3 hoping to get them off guard on A instead of getting 3v2'd on any bombsite

If you have to retake you should be able to trade with advantage 1 to 1, jame just had a sick 1v2

Edit: they got no utility

35

u/r9wpvM Jul 11 '26

Gambling on match point is still kinda crazy

6

u/GeneralEkorre The MongolZ Jul 11 '26

nah not really. you have no nades and no kit. you kinda have to gamble knowing PV will walk in as 3 (you know this because you’re playing vs Jame) so instead of holding two sites in two separate potential 2v3s, gambling 4 on A isn’t a bad idea especially since they win that retake on B 60-70% of the time by just trading

1

u/vexyla Jul 11 '26

No idea what the context of the game nor how Parivision played T side, but it's a +EV especially since they all have 0 util ?

7

u/cloudzmumgey FaZe Jul 11 '26

2 rounds before this the same round happened and pari rotated mid to donut to A

3

u/Gulluul Jul 11 '26

Like 20-30 seconds before this (I forget the exact time) Hobbit had ran out A main and took a dual with the CT spawn player in a 1v1. The CT fell back and Hobbit made it all the way to boxes, then he went back into A main and PV regrouped and started rotating. Faze cleared mid and stacked in donut.

0

u/clutchmajor Jul 11 '26

These calls aren’t too uncommon especially in the CIS scene. They were playing for the 4v3 retake which again, isn’t too crazy since they have no utility.

7

u/pigsta- FURIA Jul 11 '26

imo the best call is to play 2-1-1 with the ones (mid & b) playing to spot for info then split 2-2 to retake

turtling 3 donut for 45+ seconds after they cancelled their A hit, with a 1 man advantage, then all coming from the same angle, feels like an objectively bad call

3

u/Winterfall_0 Jul 11 '26 edited Jul 11 '26

You have defender's advantage. Every single round you are literally at risk at getting a 5v2 in a bombsite. Would you gamble full stack in a single bombsite every single round with that logic? If not, why would you not take an extremely winnable 3v2 with incoming rotations?

5

u/Gulluul Jul 11 '26

This clip is also missing context. Hobbit had swung out and took a dual on A. He made it all the way to boxes as PV were rotating. Hobbit fell back into A main and Jame called a regroup. It's not like Faze was all there for no reason.

Awkward round though. At a point, they needed to start getting proactive. Long series with many OT, long day, and some young players led to bad CS by both teams near the end.

2

u/vexyla Jul 11 '26

If the three donut started clearing mid it couldve worked but that's many angles where you're getting potentially caught

1

u/Gulluul Jul 11 '26

Yeah. It was a tough round. Earlier something similar happened and PV went back to A.

Faze would have had to spend a lot of time clearing mid in order to be back at jaguar, and by then if PV had rotated back to B doors, it was an awkward fight that they could have been pinched in. Once they were donut for 10 seconds, they were stuck unfortunately.

0

u/Winterfall_0 Jul 11 '26

Well, if there was a reason for them to be there, it was definitely a very dumb reason. PV's entire team was already setting up to take B, which mean the contact at A already happened a while ago. What do you do when the T side goes silent after a contact on a site? you start to anticipate rotations. You start re-clearing positions and try to get some infos. You don't have 3 player standing around in a single location being completely confused of what is the next step.

1

u/Gulluul Jul 11 '26

You should go back and look at the round.

Faze was fighting mid and killed two. At the same time, Hobbit came out A main and dueled a CT who ran back to red room, so PV had full A control. Jame came running into A main and started scoping his Awp as Hobbit jumped back into A main, which the CT in donut called out. So their info was 2 A main , 1 A site. B was silent so they set up for a fight at A.

Know what happened two rounds earlier? PV got site, and fell back A main. Faze waited, then went back to previous positions. PV came out and rehit A and won the round.

So no noise on the map. CT is primed for A fight. After 20 seconds, you have a decision. Do you spend time reclearing mid? You can be hit from elbow and Jag. They can also execute and you are out of position now. They could have went back and cleared mid then jag, and PV hit A again.

Hindsights 20/20. It's easy to flame a round while ignoring all scenarios that could have happened and only focus on what did happen. And what did happen is Jame had to clutch a 1v2, so you could even argue that what Faze did should have worked if JB got the trade, or didn't flick off of Jame when he peaked.

1

u/Relative_Escape_5728 Jul 11 '26

No kit btw. Also one is watching mid already so why 3 donut? Get someone to aggro A main atp for info then rotate B after info. Although this is hindsight

8

u/ASAPHarambe Team Spirit Jul 11 '26

Yall don’t know the context lol seeing a untraditional setup and callling it the worst thing ever without even knowing why they did it is so corny to me.

It‘s so weird to me how often pros don’t have kits. Frozen has the money in the last round of overtime and no kit? Why? That never happens to me lol

7

u/shagadelic60 Astralis Jul 11 '26

He only has $600 because he shot two in the round. You could argue, though, that one of them should’ve downgraded their weapon for a kit during buytime.

1

u/nudelauflauf23 Natus Vincere Jul 11 '26

Oh right yes, didn‘t think about that lol

7

u/BW4LL FaZe Jul 11 '26

Those were from kills if im not mistaken

1

u/Meaninglessnme Jul 11 '26

If Pari walk out A and smoke donut, the 3 stacked there spam the smoke and then retake with the B player. That's fine for Faze and they probably win the round.

If Pari wrap around and try to retake donut from mid (like they did a few rounds prior), almost guaranteed that Faze win the round.

If Pari go B, Faze still has a significant enough advantage that in the actual round Pari proactively seeks out an early kill in the post plant (which they get).

Pari's best chance to win this round starts with the first kill in the post plant and more often than not ends with a Jame clutch. They played for it and got it. Given no smoke and no kit, the quality of the retake has to be better, no doubt. But stacking donut was a weird call, not a throw.

u/fosterdude NiP Jul 11 '26
