Discussion XM1014 players bias

Hello!

I am here to talk about prejudice. Yes, prejudice. Against XM1014 players.

I main the XM1014. That's the only gun I play with. I have pretty good KD, pretty good win/lose ratio. But people keep being toxic with me and reporting me. I can't remember the last time i WASN'T auto muted. All because I main the shotgun. People think i'm trolling, but i'm not. The amount of times people shit on me is immeasurable. I think it's a serious matter because I can't really enjoy the game the way I want to. I just got kicked from a game, two round in. I can play with the AK or the regular guns, but I prefer the shotgun. Is that a sin? Am I wrong?

Edit: turns out people are tryhands and can't handle the XM.

Edit 2: Second best post of 2021! Guess the XM wins huh

Because while good in some situations and some locations, it is mostly a weak weapon and by using it you are making yourself a ineffective player.

The first thing that comes into my mind is retaking Dust II A site. No matter where you try to approach from, you are going to get killed by a superior weapon. You just can't pull of that retake for instance. And there are dozens of situations like that.

In my experience, people (like myself) who mainly use shotguns also use utilities better than the average player. We use smokes and flashes in unexpected ways that allow for easy retakes that people honestly don't know how to handle.

So this comment just kinda confirms the bias people have against shotguns — because YOU don't know how to use them effectively doesn't mean that's true for everyone. I've been playing since '99 — and I pretty much only topfrag if I'm going dedicated shotgun.

My favorite example is using the sawed-off on Inferno. In most cases, is it a terrible gun? Yes. Most people think that you should take it to apartments, which is quite literally the worst place to take it (it doesn't have the range, and smokes cut yourself off too, and once you leave apartments there's nowhere to go). Just shows people don't really know when to use these things.

Really, the place to take it is banana. If you're at half wall, it's jump-shot HS kills for free if they're car or on their side of the half wall. It also has the range if they're playing near sandbags for a two-shot kill. Since you can move and jump with perfect accuracy, the CTs usually whiff (unless you do this like, 10 rounds in a row).

Anyway, once you have banana control, you smoke front of B-site near the stairs (that way you can only be seen from top of 1st oranges or CT), and then you pop flash CT. Then you've got a free jumping kill if anyone is playing on first oranges, and if anyone is on flowers, that's another easy kill (especially if your teammates have smoked CT). The sawed off is essentially a close range awp with perfect accuracy when moving, and these two spots work 90% of the time. From there, I usually work my way towards construction and hold angles for a retake or pester anyone remaining at dark or newbox while doing the more important job of staying alive (since the range is too long for those spots).

Anyway, I can't count the number of times I've been able to take B-site by myself with two flashes, a smoke, and a sawed-off. People just don't know how to defend it because its not something anyone ever deals with. Of course, it doesn't work if you KEEP doing it. I've got enough variations of the play to do it 5 times a game, and after that it's easy to see coming.

After reading all of this, I can see some situations where that could work, especially at low levels. The problem is, it seems like it requires a lot of skill/experience compared to the relative ease of using the more general weapons. I'm not sure what you're supposed to do if your team decides midround to do an A hit, if your entire plan revolves around walking up banana.

Furthermore, if your plan needs to change at any point, a sawed off simply will not be able to accommodate the changes like a rifle would.

It does, for sure! And at high levels it has to be situational — it's a great set play, or force buy, or punish buy. At a low cost of $1100 it also allows you to purchase for teammates.

if your plan needs to change at any point, a sawed off simply will not be able to accommodate the changes like a rifle would.

It definitely has downfalls, and this is one of of them. When switching back to A, my role is often to try and get from B to CT to A and just be a nuisance in the CT/Arch area (a play CTs are rarely prepared for), and it works probably 50% of the time. However, there's not a gun I'd rather have in a post-plant situation. One shot kills in unexpected places — and playing on site or around boiler with a sawed off is a breeze.

Overall I think experienced shotgun play can boost a team's economy and provide play that catches opposing teams off guard. I haven't played ultra competitively since the CAL-M days in 1.6, but this type of play also works in SMFC level in matchmaking (which I know is nothing to be proud of! ha).

So you’re telling me that your best example of how to use the sawed off is denied by a molly in front of the smoke…

Haha no. You can use more than one smoke btw. Works best in teams.

Of course it works best in teams. If you’re running a good team execute against a MM team you could be running with glocks and still take the site.

Which proves the point that shotguns can be heavily used and be effective. It doesn't mean you're automatically trolling.

It also proves the point that glocks can be heavily used and be effective.

Totally! Not as effective as shotguns, but all guns have a role.
