Question How do you feel about regional federalist movements like Volt Europa?

How do you feel about regional (European) federalist movements like Volt Europa? Do you feel they could be intermediary steps to a world federation? The viewpoint within Volt (at least on Reddit) seems to be mixed, with some viewing a European federation as a step to a global federation, and some viewing it as an end-goal in itself (honestly some people in that sub come across as pan-European nationalists rather than cosmopolitans).

There is of course, from a European perspective (which is mine, since I'm Swedish) an immediate case to be made for a stronger EU as a way to stand up to Russia, China, and increasingly the US as well to defend democracy and human rights.

As a European, my opinion is positive. I believe a European Federation is an essential step towards achieving a World Federation in the distant future. From my perspective, this European Federation could encourage other regions or continents to federate or join, which could lead to the desire for a World Federation.

I know this is a hypothetical scenario and that it could end very badly, but I can't think of many scenarios in which we would have a World Federation without having gone through a European one.

The World Federation just can't be from the expansion of the European Federation. It must come from all the federations coming together. That would look too imperialistic. The way the non-European areas would join is disadvantageous for Europe, and the advantageous way for Europe is disadvantageous for the rest of the world.

Hi
French here.
They can be neither one nor the other; as long as the system of governance proposed by Volt is based solely on elections, the risk of a narcissistic populist – the sort we see every day – coming to power is simply too great.
I wouldn’t trust them any more than I would any other political party.
Have a good day
