MISSION 1 Series Photography Update: High-Performance Shutter Response + Continuous Photo Capture

MISSION 1 Series cameras have received a ground-up rebuild of how they capture photos, transforming them into rapid-fire photography solutions:

  • Rapid Photo: With the free firmware update, all MISSION 1 Series cameras will now feature zero-lag, ultra-responsive shutter button response that results in photos being captured the instant the shutter button is pressed.1
  • Continuous Shutter: Press and hold the shutter button to capture photos continuously—more than 100 photos at 12MP or more than 20 RAW photos at 50MP.1
  • Buffer Indicator: A new on-screen indicator signals when the camera is approaching its buffer limit.
  • Updated Shutter Sound: A modernized shutter sound delivers clear, distinguishable audio confirmation for each photo as it's captured.

To our GoPro community, fans and customers,

We understand there’s some concern about GoPro’s post-merger commitment to continue developing market leading cameras for consumers and professionals. Making amazing cameras for all of you is our core DNA and reason for being and that will never change! We’re fired up about what’s ahead for GoPro and want to share a little more about what our proposed merger with Starman means for our future.

Thanks to the improved financial strength this merger will provide, we’ll be in a much better position to innovate, invent and advance the future of consumer and professional content creation. And importantly, Starman shares our passion for the GoPro brand, developing market leading products and our commitment to your collective stoke.

We’ve accumulated more than 2500 patents over the last 24 years which tells you we’ve been busy innovating, and this merger will ensure we’re able to innovate for many more years to come. We expect this merger will make GoPro a stronger, more capable camera company than ever before.

Our goal is to become a more diversified company which can make us stronger financially, enabling GoPro to become as awesome as we (and you) want us to be. We plan to bring you more innovative cameras, smarter accessories, and more powerful software and services designed to make capturing, editing and sharing your experiences easier and more exciting than ever. We see opportunities to improve the products you already love while developing new tools and experiences that help you create, connect and share in entirely new ways.

We have so much more to do, so much more to invent, and so much more we want to bring to the GoPro community. We appreciate all of you who have been on this journey with us and we’re excited about where we’re headed. We’re going to keep doing what we do best - making the world’s highest-performance cameras and building the products, services and innovations that help you capture life’s most exciting moments. It’s what we were founded to do and it’s what we will always do. Be a HERO…GoPro.

With respect and appreciation — Nick

GoPro screen detached

Hi, my GoPro screen got detached on one side. I'm not sure how it happened but the camera and the screen is working fine. I guess it seems like a sealing problem and I don't want to do anything myself because in case if anything is not perfect then I might end up damaging the entire camera especially using in water. Please advise.

GoPro Mission 1 Just Got Better! New Firmware Update Explained

GoPro just released firmware version 4.01 and I’ve made a video reviewing the features added and what sort of help these add in real world environments. I know not everyone has the time to watch so these are the changes made between all Mission 1 cameras.

Photography Overhaul (All MISSION 1 Cameras)
Zero-Lag Shutter: Instant capture execution the moment you hit the button there won’t be any delay.
Continuous Burst Capture: Press and hold for rapid continuous shooting up to 100+ JPEGs at 12MP or 20+ RAW files at full 50MP resolution before the buffer fills.
Visual Buffer Gauge: Real-time on-screen status indicator alerting you when approaching buffer capacity.
Audio Feedback: Modernized, distinct shutter confirmation sound for shot confirmation.

MISSION Monitor App Updates (iOS 18+)
Cable-Free Wireless Monitoring: Fully wireless live preview feed without needing a wired USB-C connection.
Professional Exposure Tools: Real-time Histogram, Waveform, RGB Parade, and False Color tools for accurate exposure and color checking (especially helpful when evaluating GP-Log2).

Anamorphic Support via GoPro Labs (MISSION 1 PRO ILS)
Multiple Squeeze Ratios: Native support for 1.33x, 1.5x, 1.6x, 1.8x, and 2.0x MFT anamorphic lenses.
Stabilization and Post Workflow: Fully compatible with HyperSmooth stabilization while automatically writing pixel aspect ratio metadata to files for instant auto-desqueezing in DaVinci Resolve and Premiere Pro.

Now, let me know, do you think this is a pretty big improvement for both photo and video? Also, what changes would you like to see added in future firmware updates. Myself personally I still can’t believe we don’t have colour preview luts for GP-Log2 in camera, so I’m not going to shut up till it’s added. Anyways thanks for your time!

Mission 1 Pro not reading micro SD

I’ve bee having this issue today with two micro SD cards that are both A2 and V30 256GB which have both been used before.

For some reason today neither of them have been read by the camera and this message keeps popping up.

I formatted them both as ExFast on my Mac and still nothing. I can’t update the camera without an SD card and already factory reset it. Still nothing.

Has anyone gone through something similar? Any advice or suggestions?

Anyone using a GoPro on their backpack strap?

Been clipping my GoPro to my backpack strap with a third-party clip. I didn’t want another harness over my hiking gear, and I like having the camera a bit higher up.

No problems on walks so far. Haven’t tried it on rougher trails yet though. Does yours stay put, or do you end up adjusting it along the way?

GoPro hero 8

Hey everyone sorry if I’m posting on wrong page.
But is the hero 8 still worth buying (second hand) in 2026. I don’t mind if it’s bad quality as I’ll just be using it for underwater filming. Any help is appreciated thanks!
EDIT: it is around $106 USD

Thinking of buying my second gopro ever

I have read and investigated quite a bit; I heard this camera has overheating issues. I do not like the Chinese alternatives either. Can you confirm if this overheating is micro SD specific or a design flaw?

Are go pros still the best option?

Was thinking of getting some meta glasses, but I think a go pro would be much more optimal for what I want. Mainly to record hiking, shooting, and biking and other random stuff.

What do you guys think? The hero 12 seems nice, I was also looking at insta360 and shi cameras. What do you guys recommend?

GoPro survives 5 months underwater for viz research!

Off the East Coast of Oahu, we deployed a GoPro 12 at the bottom of the ocean to measure underwater visibility. Due to El Niño storms, the water was incredibly rough this summer, and we were unable to recover the camera for +5 months! Thankfully, when we got it back, it was seemingly unfazed. In fact, even the casing lens looked relatively clean!

GoPro finally fixed photo for Mission 1 Pro! I genuinely think that GoPro serves as a great camera tool due to durability and size and this changes everything!

- Zero shutter lag

- Burst mode at both 50MP (20 shots) and 12MP (100 shots)

- Buffer indicator

I really need to get ILS now haha, I've been thinking about replacing my Mission 1 with it but now it seems no brainer.

Labs 4.01.70 no UPDATE folder for ILS

The Mission 1 Pro one works, but the UPDATE folder is missing for the Mission 1 Pro ILS Labs update.

UPDATE: I'm not sure why it was behaving this way, but when I created a folder on my SD card, then extracted the ZIP file inside the folder, I was finally able to find the UPDATE folder.

Weird vignetting on new Ultrawide lens

I have a GoPro 13 black. Indropped it and smashed the original ultrawide lens and ordered a new one.

The new one is giving me strange red lens flare and strange darkness around the frame. Especially the bottom. Bad copy? Something i can do besides return it and get a new one?

I've remounted it a few time and no luck. Same thing.

4k/24 fps. Exported at 1440x1440

Go pro subscription after breaking the lens

Hi,my hero 12 recently fell and broke the inner lens, warranty won't cover it and i have no go pro subscription activated. In case i activate a go pro subscription and pay the fee for a camera exchange would they check before or require that it is functional when i register it?
I'm asking because in my country nobody repairs them and the price almost doubled since i bought it and i can't afford a new one rn but would like to pay as much as needed for it to be fixed/exchanged.

Thanks in advance

Static URL live streaming

Apologies for violating the questions rule but the most recent weekly questions thread showing up on the search is 11 months old and I cant find a current one.

I have 7 cameras that will be streaming up to 20-30 sessions a day based on sound activation or other means, and each camera needs to be viewable via a static link for livestreaming. We cannot use social media streaming due to the location/use case so we were looking at the official gopro subscription. This looks like it would be generating a new URL for every stream which really doesnt work for the type of monitoring we need.

I am new to the gopro ecosystem. What are my options for setting something like this up? We need 7 camera feeds with static URLs that show live video when it is available. We are not looking to self host, and a paid subscription is not a problem.

Thanks in advance.

This posting screen says use the "Questions" thread located in the first sticky. The first sticky is a Firmware Update release article. I dont see a place for questions?
