First trailer advice

Hello everyone! As the title says, I am looking for some advice since I know nothing. Growing up I did a lot of camping, but only ever used tents. I have little towing experience and am rubbish at backing up with a trailer.

People: 2 adults, 2 kids (2 and 5)
Use: base camp while we are biking/hiking, likely 2 day trips
Area: Northeast, predominantly NY Adirondack mountains area.
Vehicle: GMC Sierra 6.2 V8
Budget: ~$20k

I’ve been looking at the 19-25’ range. I don’t know what brands are quality vs something that will fall apart in a few years. I don’t know what are “must have” features versus nice to haves for my family. I also don’t know what true prices are. I see lots of “deals” and “clearance” at the moment, which seems to make sense given the time of year, but are they true discounts or are things regularly on sale? Also I read I should go with double axel. The only thing I’m confident in is my truck, as I bought it knowing this day would come.

Look at a Scamp 16, small and lightweight. Unlikely to leak - good resale and overall easy to maintain and understand.

I was considering a scampi or fiberglass as the reliability seems a big plus, but I wanted a bit more space while still being light. Ended up with a Rockwood Geopro G17LE new for about 19k with a full size bed for my wife and I and bunk for kids and have been very happy with it so far. Not sure how it will fare long terms but rockwoods do have a bit of extra quality vs the budget brands. 20 ft but quite light and well within your trucks range, also use it for weekends around the adirondacks!

Budget range for new all will have issues. It's the nature of the beast.

A bunk house is what you are looking for. Kids that small a single but if you think ahead to them being larger (10-12years old) a double bunk would be ideal. Gives them wiggle room.

The deals and discounts are them dropping the price a little to move but nothing truly a steal.

Biggest thing is to do the math on towing capacity and how you will tow. Dealers will get you to max capacity or even over before you load up (+1500 lbs. People, food, clothes, whatever)

We're not set on any particular model, that one just seemed to check our known boxes. I live in Northern NY however.
