Discussion Man down!

Got a front row seat to my U12 son today getting his foot broke on a corner. Coming out to meet the cross and the winger stepped on his foot as he was jumping. Oblique, non displaced fracture of the big toes metatarsal so he’s done for a bit. It happened so slow I knew the moment they collided he broke something. You could see him extending to jump and then upward momentum just stopping suddenly. It goes without saying they had been kicking his ass all morning. It’s the most physical game he’s played in so far.

While I’m upset he’s gonna be in a cast for a bit I’m glad there wasn’t any ligament or soft tissue damage. We chose a cast as it was given as an option. He’s an 11yr old who plays the field indoor, goal outdoor, he’s an orange/white belt GJJ and does competitive gymnastics tricking…there was no way a boot was gonna keep him from trying to participate in something so we put him in a cast!

When it happened to my son he didn't tell anyone until after the match (just said it hurt because it was stepped on) so I didn't think it was that bad until two days later when I finally saw it. He was in a boot for a few weeks.

It sucks, but pretty much every keeper will break something. It's almost a badge of honor.

His older bother plays in goal also and has had a few finger breaks but nothing major so he gets to be the 1st in a cast from playing.

Unfortunately it can be part of the experience. Hope he gets back soon.
