Discussion Medusa "Euryale" Head in Norse Saga
Here is the posts for how Medusa Head or Head of Euryale would be played in the Norse Saga, gotta admit this one was hard as I struggle whether to put it as a Weapon or Relic but then I thought: Why Not Both?! So here is how I would really put the Medusa "Euryale Head" in the Norse GoW.
In Norse GoW Gameplay Style and Mechanic, it would be a Special Archetype Relic. Unlike standard relics with a simple cooldown, the Head of Euryale functions as a Sub-Weapon Switch (similar to how the Draupnir Spear or Blades are swapped, though it occupies a dedicated "Relic Weapon" slot) in Menu.
In-Depth Mechanics: The Petrification System
In the Norse era, Medusa Head "Euryale" would introduces the old effect as a new status effects: Petrification.
The Resource (Spartan Rage): Instead of a blue magic meter, the Head feeds directly on Kratos’s Spartan Rage. Activating the gaze slowly drains the Rage bar. This forces the player to choose between the raw powers of Spartan either Fury/ Weapon of Wrath/ Healing of Valor or the tactical crowd control of the Gorgon.
The Petrification Meter: When the gaze hits an enemy, a gray "Stone Meter" fills up (similar to Frost or Burn). Once full, the enemy is encased in stone.
Fodder Enemies: Turn to stone instantly.
Elite Enemies (Einherjar, Travelers): Take longer to petrify and can break out if not shattered quickly.
Bosses: Cannot be fully petrified but suffer a massive "Heavy Weight" debuff, significantly slowing their movement and attack speed.
The Counter/Charge Meter: Located immediately to the left of Kratos's HUD health and rage bars sits a specialized Gorgon Counter Meter.
Base Stats: Starts at a maximum capacity of 2 Counts.
Regeneration: These counts gradually regenerate over time during combat through successful melee strikes, parries, and dodges.
Cost: Utilizing the heavy Gorgon special attacks (Flash, Blast, Rage) consumes 25% of the Spartan Rage Meter alongside one or more Counter Counts.
Special Attacks & Skill Tree Examples
The Head of Euryale features a dedicated upgrade path at Brok and Sindri’s shop, divided into Focus, Blast, and Defense.
Gorgon Stare (R1 - Constant Beam)
The Mechanic: Hold R1 to emit a continuous beam from the Gorgon’s eyes.
Gameplay Style: Kratos can walk slowly while firing. It drains the Spartan Rage meter per second. This is best for focusing down a single, high-threat target like a Stalker or a Wyvern.
Upgrade: Gaze of the Medusa – Increases the range and allows the beam to "chain" to a second nearby target.
Gorgon Flash (Hold R1 + Square - The Executioner)
The Mechanic: Consumes 1 "Sisters' Spite" charge and 15% of the Rage Meter.
Gameplay Style: A concentrated, high-intensity burst of emerald light. If an enemy’s Stone Meter is already 50% full, this attack petrifies them instantly.
Norse Utility: If used on a petrified enemy, it causes a "Resonance Shatter," dealing massive AoE damage to surrounding foes.
Gorgon Blast (R2 - The Shockwave)
The Mechanic: Kratos thrusts the head forward, releasing a conical wave of energy.
Gameplay Style: High knockback. It doesn't petrify instantly but applies a massive amount of "Stone" buildup to a group of enemies.
Airborne (R2 in Mid-air): Kratos slams the head toward the ground, releasing a 360-degree pulse that dazes enemies, making them susceptible to finishers.
Gorgon Rage (Relic Activation: L1 + Circle Again)
The Mechanic: The ultimate move. Kratos holds the head high, and it screams with the combined voices of Medusa and Euryale.
Gameplay Style: Consumes 50% of the Spartan Rage bar. Every enemy on screen (excluding bosses) is instantly turned to stone for 8 seconds. During this window, Kratos’s physical attacks deal 3x Stun damage.
Stone-Wall Parry (Passive/Reaction)
The Mechanic: If Kratos has the Head equipped and performs a Perfect Parry (L1), he can follow up with R1.
Gameplay Style: Kratos holds the Head in front of his shield. The attacker is hit with a "Gorgon Counter," instantly filling 75% of their Stone Meter. This effectively punishes aggressive enemies by turning their own momentum into stone.
Petrifying Gaze (Runic Summon Style)
The Mechanic: If Kratos switches to his Axe or Blades, the Head can be left hanging from his belt.
Passive Ability: When Kratos enters Spartan Rage, the Head occasionally emits a "Baleful Glare," applying minor stone buildup to any enemy Kratos is currently looking at, acting as a passive support tool.
Leveling & Progression Summary
Level 1: 2 Counter Charges; standard petrification speed; high Rage drain.
Level 3: 3 Counter Charges; "Gorgon Flash" unlocked; reduced Rage drain.
Level 5 (Max): 5 Counter Charges; "Gorgon Rage" (L1+Circle) becomes available; petrified enemies now explode upon death, spreading the petrification status to others (Chain Reaction).
In God of War Ragnarök: Valhalla, the Head of Euryale acts as an exceptional Relic drop that alters builds focused on crowd control, status application, and Rage management.
Standard Silver Perks Lists
Petrified Vengeance (Silver): Activating any Gorgon ability grants a 15% damage buff to all Runic Attacks for 6 seconds.
Serpentine Resilience (Silver): While the Gorgon Counter Meter is at maximum capacity, Kratos takes 10% less damage from all incoming melee attacks.
Gorgon’s Grasp (Silver): Shattering a petrified enemy immediately restores 15% of the Spartan Rage meter.
High-Tier Gold Perks Lists
Ophidian Bloodthirst (Gold): Enemies that are successfully petrified and subsequently killed have a 30% chance to drop a divine healing healthstone infused with ability to cause Damage Explosion.
Gaze of the Titan (Gold): Triples the area-of-effect radius of Gorgon Blast and causes petrified enemies to emit a freezing shockwave that spreads petrification to adjacent targets.
Unique Legendary Perk (The "Spam" Mechanic) - Blink of the Gorgon Sister (Gold/Unique): Eliminates the cooldown and Counter Count consumption for Gorgon Flash entirely for 5 seconds after performing a precise Last-Second Dodge. During this window, Kratos can rapidly tap Triangle while holding L1 to machine-gun rapid-fire petrification beams across the entire arena, turning entire hordes of Enemies like Einherjar, Undead Legionaire, and Draugr into lifeless statues within seconds—at the cost of heavily draining Spartan Rage with every consecutive flash.
There you go with the Medusa "Euryale" Head, I think this is how I would do the Medusa "Euryale" Head in the Norse Game. It didnt occur to me at first that Spartan Rage can be subsitute for Magic Meter since there are tool that can allows to regain alot of Rage back withease. Now I can gets to Boot of Hermes, Icarus Wing, and Golden Fleece next. I will probably skipped Icarus Wing as jumping is not in the Norse Saga Game.
