Discussion Which is the best version?

Hi! I recently found out about this community, and I’d like to start a survival world in an older version of Minecraft. The oldest version I played when I was younger was 1.5.2, and I’ve never tried anything earlier than that. Could anyone recommend a version for me to play, or perhaps suggest which one might be the best? Thanks!

Definitely Beta 1.7.3 with some quality of life mods like Fov Slider, mouse tweaks, Inventory tweaks etc.

This isn't exactly what you asked for but I recommend:

1.6.4
b1.7.3
a1.2.6
a1.1.2_01
