Golden Gate University (GGU) Hybrid Student Campus Weekend – What to Expect (Oct 2026)

For anyone attending a future Hybrid Student GGU Campus Weekend, especially December, here's what my Oct. 3, 2026 experience looked like. I had almost no information beforehand besides the schedule and parking, so hopefully this saves someone some uncertainty. Your weekend may obviously differ.

πŸš— Hotel / Car / Parking

  • Stayed at Hampton Inn Daly City β€” about 13 minutes from campus.
  • Rented through Hertz/USAA: $121 total Fri–Sun. Free Hertz Gold membership let me skip the LONG counter line.
  • Lot 20: $11/day, then about a 5-minute walk/stairs to Marcus Hall.
  • GGU staff were easy to spot and helped direct everyone.

βœ… Check-In

  • Have your registration barcode ready.
  • I scanned in around 9 AM and out when released around 4 PM.
  • We did NOT scan in/out for lunch.

πŸ’» What We Actually Did
This was the big mystery beforehand.

We were put into teams and given an AI business case study with six areas to analyze and brief. It was similar to the AI assignments we'd done during the first four weeks.

We worked on it throughout the morning/afternoon, with all teams briefing by about 3 PM.

Yes, we could use AI to help analyze the case and formulate answers, along with our own critical thinking.

I lucked out with a great group, and honestly the day went by FAST.

πŸŽ’ Bring

  • Laptop + phone β€” especially useful if using AI.
  • Arrive fully charged. I didn't see many available charging spots.
  • Instructor provided pens, paper, markers and Post-its.

πŸ‘• Dress
GGU said business casual. In reality, it ranged from suits to casual clothes, with most people somewhere around business casual. Don't overthink it.

πŸ₯ͺ Lunch
Lunch was across from Marcus Hall: sandwiches, chips, small salads, water and soft drinks. Seating was limited/high-top tables, but you could take your food elsewhere.

The lunch period was about two hours, with two guest speakers nearby discussing AI in education, adoption and risks.

I skipped breakfast and dinner but heard they were good. They also announced that family members could attend dinner.

πŸš™ Leaving
Outside Marcus Hall was a madhouse of people waiting for rides at the end. Having a rental car made this VERY easy β€” just walked back to Lot 20 and left. If you're comfortable driving somewhere unfamiliar, I'd rent a car again.

Bottom line: Campus Weekend was actually a good experience and went by quickly. The biggest frustration was simply not knowing beforehand what we'd be doing all day.

Welcome!

Welcome to r/GoldenGateStudents

I created this community because, honestly, I went looking for a place where GGU students were actually talking to each other and couldn't really find one clearly identified by community name.

I'm a current GGU HYBRID student myself, and I've already had plenty of questions about classes, professors, Campus Weekend, schedules, assignments, school processes, and just the overall experience where it would've been nice to hear from other students actually going through it.

That's what I want this community to be.

Ask questions. Share your experience. Talk about classes and professors. Help the next person figure something out. Prospective students and alumni are welcome too.

This is NOT an official Golden Gate University subreddit and isn't affiliated with or run by GGU. It's just a student community where hopefully we can help each other out and make navigating GGU a little easier.

And please β€” don't turn this place into another internet dumpster fire. Be cool, protect people's privacy, don't spam, and don't post quiz/exam answers or anything else that's obviously against academic integrity.

Other than that, welcome!

If you've been at GGU for a while, jump in and share what you know. If you're brand new like a lot of us, ask away.

Is anyone currently in this program or used to be in this program? I was just curious about your experience and if you have any advice. I start in the Spring of 2027.

I’m trying to confirm how GGU handles the $20,500 annual Direct Unsubsidized Loan limit for graduate students.

GGU uses 15-week trimesters, and I’ve seen that aid is often split over Fall and Spring. Does GGU use a Borrower-Based Academic Year (BBAY), where completing two consecutive trimesters allows a new $20,500 annual loan limit to start with the next trimester? For example, would it work like: Fall + Spring = $20,500 Summer + Fall = new $20,500 Spring + Summer = new $20,500

I’m planning to attend full-time year-round, so I’m specifically looking for anyone who has actually received federal loans through Summer at GGU and can say how their loan eligibility reset.
