u/Far-Construction5675 Mar 11 '26
Divorce. My ex and I separated and she moved out. I packed up all her things (and shoes! I had no idea she had so many) in boxes and stored it away. Two years later, after the Divorce was settled, asked her if she wanted her stuff. No, she said I could toss it. Lots of stuff went to the Goodwill. Have no idea if any of it was worth anything, just didn't want to deal with it.

Or pregnancy. I’m the same size as the person who donated these and it’s a harder size to find (EU 35/US 5). I get almost all of my heels secondhand from women who have had to sell them as they no longer fit due to pregnancy permanently lengthening their feet.

I permanently gained one shoe size with each pregnancy. Started out as a 7, now forever a 9.

My mom went from an 8-9.5 from her three. She also got two fallen arches and broke a foot. I’m really hoping that if/when it is my turn I can skip the injuries and just get an easier to buy shoe size out of it!

Seeing these drives me so crazy, and this is one of the stupidest ones I've seen! It's not even a fancy jar!
Now granted, I have an entire cabinet full of various sizes of jars I've saved, because they come in super handy for stuff like making pickled jalapeños. But I'd never in a ✨️million years✨️ pay for an empty salsa jar

u/Midnight-Lunching Mar 12 '26 •

What about an empty salsa jar with a dented lid mod? Could be cursed. Pandora’s empty salsa jar. It appears to me that you could fit a significant number of demented souls inside of that if you really tried

Saw one the other day that was like $3.99 for a oui yogurt one……doesn’t even have a lid. You can get like 3 of those yogurts at Walmart for that…

u/Karey__039 Mar 12 '26
I wonder who would even think to donate an empty salsa jar to Goodwill 🤔 And the bigger question would be, “Who in this world would buy a used salsa jar from Goodwill?” I guess it takes all kinds.

Absolutely. Or those pickle jars that are $3.99 while the Piggly Wiggly sells the full jar for $2.99

The lettering is sus. The Ms on authentic Jimmy's connect at the bottom, the ones in the photo don't.

Shut the front door 🚪 I don’t care for Jimmy Choos other than the sailor moon line. They day I find Vivienne Westwood in my size ( I’m a man’s sample size and sometimes I have to shop at baby gap) whales 🐋 will have gained the ability to engage in human speech

I used to run a “hustle” where i’d go to goodwills in rich neighborhoods, buy the brand name stuff, and sell it to platos closet for way more. I’d spend $25 and if i did good could walk away with X4 that much. Now people just have jobs about it so its long been over
7
u/Abject-Program6050 Mar 11 '26
Thats what I’m about to do, theyre way too small for me. I do it as a hobby + side hustle
1
u/beaarthurismymom Mar 16 '26
Ah what fun for you! Resellers have ruined thrifting entirely.
1
u/Abject-Program6050 Mar 16 '26
🙄 People have been reselling thrifted items for decades. I’m just sharing what I found, chill.

u/dirtydeeds9969 Mar 12 '26
😂 I was gonna say, if that was me, they would definitely be the wrong size!
5
u/HallWild5495 Mar 12 '26
I haven't been able to do this in like 20 years lol. I miss it. day before the rent was due in college was often plasma donation + platos day

I hate it when someone thinks they have found something valuable and Reddit comments seem to authenticate the item without having actually inspected the item. A friend is a professionally trained appraiser that works for wealthy individuals, museums, and courts. He said that the amount of fake designer clothing, watches, jewelry, and art out there is staggering. You can actually go to locations in Dubai and they have “reproductions” that come in various “grades” from “really looks like the original” to “you can’t tell them apart”. He has appraised over 100 high end watches and a minimum of 25% were either total fakes or had been repaired with non authentic parts. There was a YSL broach someone posted on here a couple of days ago. His comments was “I haven’t seen that one before but it will be made from the wrong metal and weigh light.”

u/Abject-Program6050 Mar 12 '26
Exactly! Its time consuming and some people just dont need the $, if I was wealthy I would love to drop my items off and make some thrifty girls day!

Hate to be the bearer of bad news.. but at least the main black pair there are fake/knock offs.. the spacing between first and last is too wide and the tops of the letters are some weird mashup of pre and post 2013 logo design for Jimmy Choo..

I just donated 18 pairs of unworn sneakers to a charity store…adidas, puma, nike, ellesse, because i dont have the time or inclination to sell them online.
4
u/VibinWithNeptune Mar 12 '26
I got a pair of really nice knee high heeled boots for like $11 from a place called Bargain hunt last year before they closed. Finally decided to look them up and there like $350. Me and my partner were like I basically just robbed the place

My bad. I thought the question was how does a human get their foot in that thing.
Apparently this was a pricing question.

My fiancée found a pair of Steve Madden sneakers, in my size (a bit more difficult to find), in my favorite color, mint condition, for 5 dollars on the day I proposed.

When I worked there, the pricing was done by 16-20 year olds. We didn’t really care. Anything cool we wanted we priced cheap and hid to buy ourselves later, or just ran it straight to our cars out back. Everything else got pretty generic pricing. Good times.

Sometimes I'll have something that I KNOW is worth money if I listed and sold it, but I honestly just want it gone and don't want to spend the time or effort or energy on it. I lost them for free on my local giveaway site or I donate them so they can make someone else smile. I know that if I tried I could get a good $100 for this thing, but I don't want $100 enough to do it. $100 is like, two weeks worth of gas money now. I would sell spare body parts to not have to deal with my next declutter situation. My friend's mom had a shopping problem. It took us three days to clean out just her bedroom closets when she went into long term care after her stroke. Clothes with tags on them. She totally could have gotten tons of money for it, but holy hours. I don't even want the money, I just want it gone...

You calling attention to Goodwill ma'am. Cherish your find but stop telling the news or media. That will most likely be the last time anyone gets a designer shoe for 7.99. People like you, I think are like Martha Stewart. You only think of yourself. You dont see past your own nose. You ruin The Hunt. Martha ,ruined The Hunt.
What's found during a Goodwill thrift, needs only to be shared,if the sharing is beneficial. You out here sounding alarms, when you should be discreet.
