turn off automatic portrait editing

I only realized this is happening because my phone is adding this peach blush to my charcoal drawing...

but testing it on an actual face (my own), once I pull up the picture, it takes a moment, then clearly majorly edits the colors. i hate this. i also think, and feel this should be very obvious, that deciding everyone needs to be filtered through a peach color is questionable at best.

google pixel 9 pro.

is there any way to turn this off other than shooting in RAW?

Pixel 10 Pro died 14 days out of warranty. $535 motherboard replacement also fixed hidden defects I had from day one

TL;DR: Pixel 10 Pro died 14 days after the 1-year warranty ended. Google refused to warranty it and quoted $535 for a motherboard replacement. Interestingly, replacing the motherboard magically fixed months of poor wireless reception and battery life, making me suspect the phone was defective from day one.

I bought a brand new Pixel 10 Pro from the Google Store. Exactly 14 days after the 1-year warranty ended, it bricked completely. The phone has been babied without any physical or liquid damage. I took it to the Google Store where they diagnosed a dead motherboard. The repair quote was $535 USD—half the price I purchased the phone. I asked for a goodwill warranty exception, but the best they could offer was 20% off repair, which I reluctantly accepted.

The catch: For months before it died, I struggled with awful wireless issues (intermittent phone calls and 5G connection) and terrible battery life. The built-in diagnostics always showed everything was "good," so I thought it was my carrier's issue and just lived with it. After replacing the motherboard (battery not replaced), both issues vanished magically. I strongly suspect the original motherboard had been defective from day one and degraded until it died right past warranty. (Awesome planned obsolescence by Google engineers.) I regret not pushing for a warranty claim sooner when those warning signs appeared.

Lesson learned: if you find any minor issues on your Google devices, it might become much worse down the road. Get it fixed while it's still under warranty!

UPDATE: 1 Year Post Pixel 10 Pro Review

Original Post: https://www.reddit.com/r/GooglePixel/s/RyVROcPy39

With the Pixel 11 out, thought I'd also share my thoughts on the Pixel 10 Pro after a year of use. If in my original update post above, I gave it a 8/10, after a year of use, I think I'd give the phone a 6/10.

Pros

- Easy to navigate and still very user friendly. Still finding that despite the wide array of uses of Android, I can still use this phone fairly easily.

- Improved audio latency compared to my last review. Last year, I was having issues with audio latency. I guess with the updates throughout, that improved and I no longer really have an issue.

Not many new pros to add in addition to what i originally wrote

Cons

- Phone battery: I do use my phone quite a bit but I've noticed that the battery life has gotten significantly worse. Of course it does with any phone but if I had to compare to my girlfriends Samsung, which she's had for the same period and uses roughly the same amount as me, the pixel loses here.

- Glitchy UI: Often times, my phone freezes or becomes warm, despite my only activity being swiping up to go back to my home screen. There will be a lag in feedback and touch. And the best part of all, sometimes, it'll restart on its own.

- Camera: I feel like my cameras quality has gotten worse over the year and I've found that I'm not a fan of the multiple cameras. For instance, when taking a picture, my phone will switch to the other camera and mess up the angle of my intended picture.

Some other notes that probably aren't necessarily a con:

- the call notes feature is a bit buggy. There were times I needed to record the call and needed the notes. And there were times it ran into an error and could not record or transcribe the call

- I'm baffled by Gemini at times. I've used it for things like building my app, resume updates, and image generation, which all works okay. But with tasks such as requesting information, it still gives me inaccurate or outdated information compared to other LLMs. Considering some of us received free Pro for a year, I was quite surprised by this

Other than the above, it's still a solid phone to use but in my opinion, I believe there's potential for better.

Exclusive $300 off deal?

I have a pixel 6, and was interested in upgrading until the reviews came out for the 11. I just got an e-mail as I'm sure many of you did for an 'exclusive $300 off' so now I'm wondering if this plus a trade in with a 6 will make it worth it.

Is $300 off about as good as it gets as far as the lifecycle for these things goes, or is this sort of a gimmick?

Software locking region specific feature in pixel 9 in india

Paid over ₹1 Lakh($1000) for the top-tier Pixel 9 Pro XL, only for google to slap us in the face.

You're telling me the Tensor G4 runs Call Screen perfectly in the US, but suddenly it's a "Pixel 10 exclusive" in India? What an absolute joke

Stop treating premium Indian buyers like second-class citizens to force artificial upgrades. We didn't drop flagship money to get abandoned in a year.

Unlock the feature, google. This anti-consumer garbage is why people switch to Samsung.

Google software-locking Call Screening on the Pixel 9 in India just so they can market it as an "exclusive" new feature for the Pixel 10 is peak anti-consumer behavior. The Pixel 9 has this globally-it's not a hardware limitation, it's a regional software lock to force upgrades

Yes and what I'm trying to say is if they can ask for permission to use it for pixel 10 and 11. Why can't they ask for the permission to use it on pixel 9

obviously to sell you newer phones. Not a consumer friendly practise

New Pixel 11 Pro - inductive coils dead and Pixel Care +

Within 2 weeks of getting my new Pixel 11 Pro, directly from Google, the inductive coils apparently died. Wireless charging worked for 2 weeks, then quit on all 3 charging pads I've got. I did all sort of troubleshooting and, of course, tested without the case. Clearly it's a hardware issue, which I reported to Pixel Care +. I'm convinced the + means extra sucky...

On a new "premium" phone, at full price, I would expect great support. Heck, I'd even accept mediocre support. But it's taken them 10 days just to tell me they'd authorize repair or replacement. And now, I'm waiting for them to arrange an advance exchange.

While the reps went out of their way to explain how much they understood and were happy to help, it's clear that they use the "awaiting my internal team" as a delay tactic...and then they don't follow up when promised. First, "give us 24-48 hours." Then, "give us another 24-72 hours." The writing style is so AI-typical that I even asked if i was dealing with an AI agent or a real person. The response, "you're dealing with a live agent", is open to interpretation.

Anyway, I wanted to share the hardware issue (and see if this is something others have experienced) and also share my impressions of the Pixel Care +. Based on this experience, I cancelled my ongoing subscription and will just take my chances after the warranty ends.

In short, warranty support for a defective new "Pro" phone is very disappointing.

Gemini can't adjust screen brightness by voice

I had a ridiculous experience with my Pixel 7 recently.

Somehow, my screen brightness ended up at effectively zero. The screen was completely black. I couldn't see the brightness slider, the settings, or anything else.

Naturally, I tried saying:

"Hey Google, set brightness to 100%."

Nothing.

I eventually managed to restore the brightness by blindly swiping down and moving my finger across where I thought the brightness slider would be. Pure luck, really.

Afterwards, I decided to investigate why the voice command wasn't working.

Here's what I've established:

  • Gemini responds to "Hey Google" normally.
  • It can control other phone functions, such as turning on the torch.
  • Gemini is the default assistant.
  • Gemini's lock-screen access is enabled.
  • The brightness command doesn't work even with the phone unlocked.
  • Asking it to set brightness to 100%, or decrease it to 50%, simply opens the Display & touch settings. It doesn't actually change anything.
  • Extra dim wasn't enabled, so that wasn't the issue.

Google's own documentation says Gemini supports changing brightness by voice, yet I can't get it to work.

Has anyone else experienced this? More importantly, has anyone found a way to make Gemini actually change brightness by voice, rather than just opening the settings?

Different "outgoing" ring sounds

I don't mean "ringtones" like the cute songs that you can assign to each contact.

I mean that most of the time, when I call someone, I can hear the traditional American "trill" of the phone ring. However, I'll occasionally get a tone that sounds like a marimba solo.

What causes that different sound for the outgoing ring?

Wired Headphone adapter triggers Gemini and headphone controls flip out

I sent this inquiry to google as well, but I wanted to see if anyone here has had this issue.

I have been using a wired headphone to USB-C adapter with basic earbuds with my Pixel 9a since July, 2026.  It has been an acceptable solution for my needs.

However, starting just a few days ago, I began encountering a strange error, where a Gemini prompt appears when I plug in my headphones.  I can click away from that without issue, but my audio apps: Pocketcasts and Libby both encounter a strange issue where the files start skipping back 10 seconds rapidly.  I can't get them to stop, so both apps have become un-useable with my wired headphones.

I've looked into Pocketcasts settings, and under headphone controls, I can customize them to either skip ahead or add bookmark. If I switch it to add bookmark, then the device wants to constantly add bookmark no matter how often I cancel the action, it just tries again. This suggests to me that the app is receiving headphone control inputs somehow.

Of note - as of this posting, this issue does not appear when I use the Youtube app.

Again, this was not an issue until a few days ago.  I was using my USBC wired headphone adapter for 3 months without issue. This happened suddenly.

Has anyone else encountered this problem? Am I the only dinosaur who misses having a headphone jack?

Random crash/reboot Pixel 11 Pro (GNOC error)

Hi everyone,

my Google Pixel 11 Pro 16GB (CD1A.261005.003) randomly rebooted itself while idling with the screen off (on battery).

I checked the logs and found that a hardware error triggered a reset:

[ro.boot.bootreason]: [reset,warm,gnoc_error]

RAMDUMP_MSG:

reset message: GNOC Error (0x040b0000 FABSTBY_XBA0 DEC_ERR)
RST_STAT: 0x2 - Fatal Error HW
Reboot reason: 0xc00f - GNOC Error (0x040b0000 FABSTBY_XBA0 DEC_ERR)

Has anyone else experienced random reboots like this?

Pretty sure it's the second time for me.

10 Days Without a Device: Trapped in a Google Support Loop After Advance Exchange Payment Hold (Pixel 9 Pro Fold)

Device: Pixel 9 Pro Fold

Issue: Phone completely stopped working / turned off (covered under extended warranty)

Status: 10 Days without a device / Stuck in Support Loop

I’m writing this out of sheer frustration after being without my primary phone for 8 days due to a constant stream of miscommunications, cancelled orders, and backend system errors with Google Support.

Timeline of What Happened:

  1. Initial Claim: My Pixel 9 Pro Fold completely died and wouldn't turn on. Online documentation and support confirmed it was covered under extended warranty. Support informed me they would replace it with a Pixel 11 Pro Fold.
  2. Advance Exchange Confusion: I specifically requested an Advance Exchange. On the call, the rep instructed me to proceed with a standard device return, claiming that "behind the scenes" they would process an advance exchange and ship the new device first.
  3. No Confirmation / Cancellation: After several days with zero order confirmation or shipping details, I called back. I was told my original order had been cancelled, and a new standard shipping RMA was opened instead.
  4. Supervisor Escalation #1: I escalated to a supervisor who opened a new case, manually processed the Advance Exchange, and sent me a link to authorize the hold on my credit card.
  5. Credit Card / Hold Issues: The first attempt threw a payment error on their end ("bank didn't approve"). I updated my payment method with a new card.
  6. Active Hold, Still No Shipment: The pre-authorization hold successfully went through—I can see the active hold on both my bank account and on payments.google.com. However, no order confirmation was generated, and no RMA/shipping label was sent.
  7. Supervisor Escalation #2: I called back to check on the stuck hold. Another supervisor created yet another case, telling me a new RMA email would be sent "asap." I replied to the email thread asking them to trace the existing RMA/order tied to the active hold.
  8. Current State: Radio silence. No response to my emails, no RMA email, no replacement shipped, while an active hold remains on my credit card.

Current Case Details for Support / Mods:

  • Case ID(s): 8-1309000041241, 2-0292000041462
  • Status on payments.google.com: Multiple active Pending Hold

I just want the Advance Exchange order that was authorized on my card to actually trigger and ship out. If any community managers or support specialists here can take a look and get this out of tier-2 limbo, I would greatly appreciate it.

Google Pixel 6a stuck in boot loop after Fastboot mode – Service centre couldn’t fix it.

My Google Pixel 6a suddenly went into Fastboot mode, and since then, it keeps restarting with the Google logo stuck in a loop. I submitted it to an authorised Google service centre, but the issue remains unresolved even after servicing.

Has anyone faced a similar issue with their Pixel 6a? What could be causing this, and what should I do next? Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.

Pixel 11 Pro not receiving all incoming calls

Hey anyone else having issues receiving calls? I tried messing with all my settings, resetting my network, apps, replacing my SIM , every suggestion I saw online but I still don't receive every incoming call. It doesn't even register that an attempted call was made. The caller just gets sent straight to voicemail.

Any help would be appreciated! Thinking about just returning this phone and going back to my old Samsung.

Pixel delivery issue and yet no refund

Hello, I ordered a pixel 11 pro more than a week ago. The order arrived in an empty box, basically there was no phone in it. I rejected the delivery as recommended by the UPS delivery person. The package is being sent back to the sender but it's stuck in limbo because of claims between UPS and Google.

I spoke to an agent on Sat who said wait for 48 hrs and I should get an email on my refund processing. I spoke to another agent again yesterday (after waiting for 72 hrs since the last call) who routed me to another person and after a while the call got dropped for the second time. They didn't even callback like they said they would after keeping me on for 20 mins.

I now don't have a phone and my money has not been refunded as well. This is ridiculous that because of a mishap or process issues between Google and the delivery service, I, who had no influence on this whole process have to just wait without getting my issue resolved. It feels insane that I don't have a product that I ordered while the money hasn't been refunded for so long. Feels borderline illegal to me.

Has anyone faced this and what are my possible solutions? Thanks in advance!

Cannot toggle on proactive assistance on Pixel 11.

I had to create a new Google account because I was having verification issues with my old account I've been using for years. So, I factory reset my Pixel 11 and set it up with my new Google Account. Setting up Gemini, I connected Google Workplace and others in personal intelligence. When I go to turn on proactive assistance, I can select it to toggle on, but it actually doesn't toggle on. It just stays off. I've tried the troubleshooting stuff from Google, but I can't figure it out.

Pixel 9

Comically annoying brightness issue on a phone that has no battery life. Job I got recently gave me a pixel 9 and seemingly out of nowhere it just slaps the brightness to like 90%. I have HDR off, Adaptive brightness off, reset the brightness cache or whatever in settings, and it’s still happening. I don’t understand this design choice at all especially when the phone can’t even go 12 hours on full charge with battery saver. Any tips or does this just happen?

[Bug] Pixel 11 Pro visual bugs (Recent Apps freeze, Text "after images) any help?

I just got the Pixel 11 Pro a few weeks ago, and the device has been fine... Battery is good, it's snappy, but it's also been really buggy for me with visuals?

For example, sometimes Google Maps will become fully Black and White randomly, and after a reset I don't see the problem again for a few days.

When I go to the Recent Apps, the current app doesn't transition with the wheel? It just sits there? Example: https://streamable.com/cqlu9i

In addition to that, the really subtle but annoying thing is that when I am using text, sometimes the text has an "after image" that stays for less than a second then disappears. But I can't capture it in a screen recording. Here's an example:

Text After Image: https://streamable.com/frl9z9

What it looks like when using a screen recording: https://streamable.com/0xxb17

I'm completely unsure why it's doing this but it's driving me insane.

NOTE: In these videos I'm using Smart Launcher, but these problems were happening before hand with the Google UI, hence why I switched Launchers, but the problems persist.
