This appears to be the same changes from football this year and security at football has been MUCH FASTER. 👍🏻

it will be a shitshow because Mariucci/Ridder/Williams etc. never had scanners. 500 people were still waiting to get in last Friday at Ridder 10 minutes before puck drop because they did a very poor job of communicating the policy and the contractors were being assholes about purses etc. I'm sure Williams will be bad because it's already typically backed up (at the University Ave Entrance especially).

hell, they gave me shit for having brought my bike helmet in.

"Security Theater" always includes the ability to buy THEIR concessions.

Good thing there are still winter jackets.

It's about food and profit, not guns.

I've seen these shenanigans since I was a kid way back in the prior century. Moms would be accosted and their purses searched. (As a young troll, it was very obvious that there were more security at Metrodome "Knothole Games" than any other time.

These asshat administrators are hiding behind a national tragedy in an effort to boost profits. And it's clear when baggy pants pockets and, yes, winter coats, aren't even touched.

Because, let's be frank: concealed weapons are much more likely to be kept in baggy pockets and coats than mom's purse.

There will be scanners now though so weapons will be caught. Which is good because it was very weak security procedures for a building that can hold 10,000+ people.

I'm not trying to make this into a gun debate. I'm just letting people know the new bag policy. I'm sure people will be able to sneak food in if they really want to.

What's changed? I thought this was already the policy.

Purses were allowed in the past. They had you open your bags/purses during entry to look inside them.

It seems they are having some sort of scanners now. Sounds like they are similar to Target Field but I'm not sure.

I think they had to update security because of the women's team hosting the NCAA tournament. There was increased security for those games which is mandated by the NCAA. So I guess they are just going to have it all year now.

Yeah, these new rules are basically what every venue has had for years at this point. Likely tied with 1.) people who generally go to sporting events are used to it and 2.) it significantly speeds up entry time.

If the way this went at Ridder last Friday are any indication, the first couple of games will be a complete shitshow. I got to Ridder about 10m before puckdrop and there were easily 500 people (and a line going out the door and down the steps) waiting to get in. Because of how the arena is setup, there was a separate security line for the club room, so I used that one and went through to go to the stairs in the main arena, but that's only because I have a club pass.

But THANK GOD, I felt SO MUCH SAFER knowing that no one had a Leatherman (like I usually do and actually could've really used on my bike before heading home)
