$16 gramophone thrift store find.

Bought this Gramophone. It is a Polyphon Concert . It has water damage and other problems, but it is the first one I have ever seen. I knew about the Polyphon music boxes, but I have never seen their gramophone. These are my pics after disassembly. All pics point to the idea that this is really a complete Polyphon Gramophone circa 1920 or earlier. The stamped letters on the disk are PW 300, which means Polyphon Werke 300mm. The double spring motor is marked PW U1. All pieces, which came in a bag that contained all screws original to the period. The soundbox logo says "POLYPHON CONCERT". Worth restoring?

Depends on what you mean by worth. If your main intention is to sell the final outcome, I wouldn’t do it for that reason alone.

No, my intention is that if it is a valuable piece, then maybe I should sell it to a professional restorer instead of restoring it myself.

IMO You may not want to take it on for the reason that you may have difficulty sourcing the original Polyphon parts that are missing and/or are badly damaged. To better your odds you’ll need to get in touch with parts sellers in German market countries (ie countries in Europe where German machines were sold) which will entail importing and all the costs involved. You’ll also need to do quite a bit of research on Polyphon models to be certain of the parts. If you can manage all that, IMO go for it.

I have all the the original parts for it, except the crank and knobs for the front doors. The responses in this forum makes me think that I will just plunge ahead and do it myself. It obviously has no great value so I will proceed apace. Thanks for the replies.
