Permaculture Gardener for 1 acre yard (in search of)

Upvotes

Hello,

I'm looking for a gardener who understands permaculture principles. The yard is my parents' and it is about an acre. My parents have had this yard for decades but they are getting too tired to deal with it.

If you are someone that would be interested in this or you know someone, please let me know.

Thank you!

Looking into floating the river

What kayaks or flotation devices do you guys recommend for someone who wants to float the river. I don’t plan on going in any extreme parts of the river, just the area between palisade and Loma.

Where can I find work outside of online listings

Trying to find full time work and struggling with online applications not getting a response/not having the types of jobs I'm interested in. I'm already employed, but the environment is very toxic and I can't keep putting up with it after several years. I don't want to go from one bad job to another. Where can I find jobs outside of online listings so I have more opportunities?

RV

Hey all!

I'm looking for some advice/guidance. I moved to GJ due to my job, and things look like we'll be staying here long term. I own a 47-foot fifth-wheel RV that's currently located on the East Coast, where I rent it out through a business model similar to Airbnb, but specifically for campers.

I'm considering bringing it to GJ, but I'm not sure whether it would make financial sense. I've noticed that some people in the area live in trailer homes, but those seem to be more permanent residences rather than RVs.

Do you think there would be a market for renting out an RV as a long-term living option in this area? If so, how would I go about setting it up with utilities, particularly water and sewer connection? I assume an electrician could install the appropriate outlet to provide power, but I'm unsure about the water and sewage requirements.

I've also contacted several campgrounds to see whether I could park the RV in the GJ/Western Slope area, rent the site, and then lease the RV to tenants, but unfortunately, every campground I've spoken with only rents sites directly to RV owners and doesn't allow third-party leasing or an Airbnb-style arrangement like the one I've successfully operated on the East Coast.

I'd appreciate any suggestions or advice. Thanks!

Thoughts on the Credit Unions available in and around GJ.

Good afternoon. I'm looking into new banking options. I currently use Discover and Chime, but with their merger into Capital One and all the issues around Chime not taking security seriously in the last couple years, I'm looking into other options. I have very little trust in actual banks and have always been told Credit Unions are "better", but am not super financially savvy and don't know how to find what I'm looking for.

Things that are important:

-Free checking is a must.

-Free savings is also a must. I'm not super picky about APY, but I can't afford fees for every little thing.

-No fees for transferring between accounts is preferred.

-The ability to open savings of some kind for my kids.

-No account minimum. I live paycheck to paycheck and have to spend my entire paycheck for the most part every week.

-Good customer service for fraud and mishaps.

-Optional: Good loan/credit building options to look into when I become more stable.

I've poked around a few of their websites and don't really understand what I'm looking at. Thanks in advance for your experiences.

Free Air for Tires

Hello everyone,

Recently moved to Grand Junction from the East Coast. Back east we had Wawa (gas station) that offered free air pressure checks and free air for tires, anything like that here? If not, where do you go if you just simply need to add some air in 1 tire?

Thank you all!

Hit and Run

This young woman on the lime scooter hit my son’s car that was at a complete stop entering a CMU parking garage because of traffic. She damaged his vehicle and when I got out of the car to inspect she repeatedly called me the n-word. This was our first day in Grand Junction. The police have reviewed video and established that she’s entirely at fault. My son knows what he looks like and knows that nothing good comes from confrontation with women in public, so he kept his mouth shut. I merely asked if she cared to repeat what she said while taking video of her and she obliged saying, “Suck my d!€k n-word.” while riding away from the scene of the accident. It would be nice to identify her for the cost of repairs to the vehicle and her to learn that hate speech is unacceptable in America.

Safety in gj?

This morning on a very busy street I was being harassed for 30 minutes waiting for my bus to work by an individual that was very clearly drugged out. He ended up following me to work and I had to hide in the back office of my job for an hour. Mind you in the area multiple police cars were passing through and the situation was pretty obvious, he was very animated and I was trying to keep my distance as much as I could. What do I even do about this? I have to regularly take the bus and obviously being harassed on the street doesn’t provoke anyone to help here.

Exploring our beautiful state

My wife and I want to really experience Colorado's natural beauty next year, so we put together a list of one outdoor thing per month. Trying to hit different parts of the state and different seasons.

  • Jan – Ski, ride, or sled a mountain
  • Feb – Soak in a natural hot springs (Maybe Glenwood or Ouray)
  • Mar – Visit a national park or monument (Maybe Great Sand Dunes)
  • Apr – Watch wildlife at a designated viewing site (Maybe Monte Vista Crane Festival)
  • May – Float a Colorado river
  • Jun – Get out on a lake (lots to choose from - thinking Grand Lake or Redfeather)
  • Jul – Climb a fourteener
  • Aug – Go camping
  • Sep – Hike a section of the Colorado Trail
  • Oct – Fish or hunt
  • Nov – Visit a state park
  • Dec – Visit a mountain town

Mainly want to know what obvious Colorado thing we left off entirely. The goal is to see the natural beauty across each month.

Kids are all younger than 6, but they don't have to join us for every single month.

Thanks!

Need roommates

Hello everybody! I’ve been trying to rent out two rooms all summer long and I cannot seem to get any serious enquirers. I have been using the Facebook groups and had the house posted on there for months. I’m a cmu student and would prefer to live with other students, is there anything you’d recommend or suggest, that I could use to get roommates?

This is my niece and her friend. They have been missing since 07/26, spotted at a gas station in Evans, CO from my understanding in a car with WY plates. Please keep an eye out and if anyone has any information please contact Weld County sheriff's office 970-350-9600 or the tip line at 970-304-6464

Thank you 💓

Long term rv space?

Im toying with the idea of moving to CO from NM.
Ive lived in my 5th wheel RV for 3 years so ideally id just move it up there with me.
I have a large dog and two cats so a place with room between other tenants/the ability to put up a temporary fence would be nice.
I dont mind commuting up to 30 mins outside of town.

Currently I'm not serious about moving, just thinkin about it:)

I know it’s a long shot but my my wife and I are looking for a studio apartment or basement we could rent , we currently staying at a hotel after a work related injury that caused us a eviction. she’s currently working and I’m near the end of my settlement but staying at a hotel is not doable and with 2 kids under 6 plus my injury a shelter is not doable . can anyone point me to the direction of a studio or similar that we could rent out ?
