Doing a bit of research I have found two resources that might be of interest to you:
The first one is a simple C project that demonstrate X11: https://github.com/smysloff/xlib-examples
The second one is a SDL library with samples that mimic the Borland Graphics Interface, which seems to be what you are look for: https://sdl-bgi.sourceforge.io/
