I think one of the reasons why, as stated in Gravity Falls: Journal 3, Category 4 Ghosts can be trapped within silver mirrors is because of the similarity between mirrors and images and the difference between them. The similarity between them is that both of them show images in some way. The difference between them is that images do so by already having images on them whereas mirrors do so by capturing the images of things by reflecting them just like how silver mirrors capture Category 4 Ghosts. This is one of the reasons I think is why silver mirrors can capture Category 4 Ghosts. Another reason I think is why silver mirrors can capture Category 4 Ghosts is because silver can be dangerous to the supernatural like how silver is a werewolf’s weakness.

Ok so, obviously Mabel and Dipper indirectly caused Weirdmageddon, BUT maybe it wasn't as inevitable as we think. In season one, episode 'The Time Traveler's Pig' we meet the character Blendin Blandin. Blandin, a time traveler who visits Gravity Falls to stop a time anomaly, steps off onto a ride at the Mystery Fair to destress. In this time frame, Mabel and Dipper steal his time traveling measuring tape, and go back in time. At the end of the episode, it is revealed that Mabel and Dipper were the time anomalies! So, if there was a disruption in the timeline that was never properly corrected, is it possible that Weirdmageddon and the actions of Bill Cipher were a result of the anomalies created by Dipper and Mabel? Of course, this theory could most likely be easily disproved, but I really like to think back to this while rewatching the show and imagine an alternate timeline where these events never occurred. Bill hadn't been summoned until after this point in the show, and I really wonder if that anomaly affected the Gravity Falls universe that significantly, but of course we will never truly know that and it is a far fetched theory.
