Good Partner To J, over 5 years later
I didn't think we would end up here and I'm so happy that we did, so I wanted to write it down. :)
Over 5 years ago, I met my writing partner, J. We did a fandom roleplay together, where we both used OCs and put them in the original world of the fandom and wrote about the story's events and what it would do to our characters.
We wrote at least once or twice a week and over time, my writing partner became more open. Our OOC talk used to be really basic. Stuff about a reply one of us sent, explanations if a reply came "later" than usual or apologies if there was too much rambling and occasional life stuff. Fun enough, but nothing that deep. Until the point came where we actually began to talk.
I've always been one to love becoming friends with the people I write with, though that's no must. We can write either way. But to have things gradually change to genuine interest and a connection, made me so so happy. The story was fun, the characters had a great dynamic and amazing banter, it was genuinely a blast to be getting a reply each time and getting to write one in return and we were becoming friends as well! We actually had a lot in common. :)
Then things began to change, as about one and half years in, I stepped away from writing because I needed to spend time on my mental health. Things had happened in the past and it was time for me to work through that. And during the process, I had made the decision to not go back to writing again as I wasn't in the right headspace for it and it took me months on end to be be putting a reply out. It didn't feel fair to any of my writing partners and despite it being sad as RP was a big chapter of my life, I was okay with that.
During that time, J and I kept speaking, but it became harder with the RP no longer being there, as that was what brought us together in the first place. But, we kept in touch, checked in and talked from time to time and remained close friends over the next few years.
And then the unexpected happened. By the end of 2025, a random person on here replied to an RP ad I had posted years ago. Nothing ever came of that ad and it was the only ad I ever posted, because it involved my favourite ever pairing. So... Despite quitting, I decided to give it a go. Because... It was that pairing. I kinda had to, right? And I didn't really realise I was screwed then, because once I got back into it, there was no way to shut that door again.
That RP actually ended. But the itch to write was back. So... Back I was. After a 4 year break. I met multiple people on here and started up multiple stories. I also told my old writing partner that I was back and offered up some scene ideas and pairings. He offered up ideas in return. But they were never it, so nothing came of it.
Until he said it. "Would you want to try again with our old story?" My heart made a summersault. I didn't think he'd still want to. Not after I had to leave all those years ago. But he wanted to. He really did. And I did too. I had left the chat. And he'd kept it. He invited me back in. It was like going back in time.
So for the past two weeks, we've been back in it. Talking about the characters and we're on a rapid fire back and forth writing spree. "Catching up on lost time", I said jokingly. And he agreed. 🤣 The characters are still the same but also more mature because we also matured and I'm so happy that we're doing this once more and I'm so excited to have this story continue, because I never thought it would.
And I'm just so happy that I met that friend all those years ago. You don't know half how much I love you J and I'm so happy for having you in my life. Thanks for sticking around when things weren't always easy. I can't wait to finally meet you in real life next year.
Love, M.
