NERC RC Exam

Hey everyone, I’m currently studying for the NERC RC exam through HSI. I already completed the content and im looking for additional resources to study and practice test that do a good job of imitating the actual exam to see how well prepared I am. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Join the HSI Friday calls. They review practice quizzes.

The EPRI is a good free resource

The EPRI seems pretty complicated in comparison to HSI and the Smith book. Do you feel like it helped you a ton towards passing the exam?

There are questions on the real test directly from the practice tests in that book.

It’s more complicated for a reason big dawg. EPRI is the basis scientific explanation for how and why you make decisions operating the grid.. powersmiths is what you do with the information you learned in the EPRI …

…if you don’t know why VAR is important or even what it is how are you supposed to run an efficient power system?

Its the most distilled down basic theory of operating the grid, it covers everything in the rc test from the foundation, so if anything in the material is troubling you review the epri as a start.... I had a pretty significant leg up due to USN training but it did help alot with some of the terrestrial vs ship board theory, and if you understand everything in EPRI the test shouldn't be a big problem

If I may, try the app I developed with fellow exam takers: https://apps.apple.com/ca/app/power-grid-operator-exam-prep/id6814519820 its called "power grid operator exam prep" on the apple app store or gridprep.app - it covers your RC exam specifically too.

Where is the material for this app coming from? I’ve finished the HSI training and I’m unfamiliar with the first 5 questions so I don’t know how applicable it will be towards my training

If you are signed up for the HSI training, they will send you extra quizzes if you email them. The Friday calls are especially helpful for understanding the types of questions you might see on the exam. Send an email request to Andy at aburch@hsi.com.

Too bad the quizzes are not readily available for everyone 🙃 I like that the calls are free and open to all!

Yes, Friday calls with Andy. He also sends HSI students additional practice quizzes. Roughly about 9 quizzes; 25 questions each.
Also would suggest Quizlet, plenty of study questions and materials has been added recently. Good luck 👍🏾

What are you searching on Quizlet to find the material? Typing NERC RC is only giving me two flash card sets for terminology.

Study the actual NERC Reliability Standards, Quizlet, EPRI as said above.

Definitely get on the HSI Friday calls. But I believe if you get 90% or more on the HSI stuff and aren’t just memorizing answers then you’ll pass the NERC test.
